Great video! You have a great, positive attitude! The reason you're more comfortable in switch with your left foot leading is because you are putting too much of your body weight over your back foot, likely because you're tentative. In snowboarding, whichever foot you put the majority of your weight over is the one that will move downhill first. Also, when you turn in snowboarding, you're leaning into the turn with your front foot (which has most of your weight over it) and you then bring your back foot around too as you rotate your hips.
It is always a good idea to have some lessons with instructor. Even 2-3 hours. It can take your ride to another level. Greetings from Poland. Wish you luck. :)
Greetings! Lessons are definitely super helpful! I personally don't have the money for them right now, and I think I'm doing pretty good on my own for now, but its not out of the question in the future if I want to level up my skills!
Thanks! And absolutely! I can even skateboard in the winter since the snow doesn’t stick around long! I’m very excited for future videos I’ll be making:)
So - as you figured out, catching an edge is bad. You almost never want your board to be flat on groomers (always be on heel or toe). Since you aren't as confident on your toe side, ride toe side and instead of sliding straight down the mountain like you're doing, zigzag left/right down the run (keep an eye out for people above you though!). Do the same thing on heel side (just zigzag; instructors used to call this "feathering" down the hill). Next, you'll want to experiment with aiming your board straight down the mountain for just a bit then back to heel/toe. And the step after that is to connect heel to toe (that's when you will ACTUALLY start experiencing how awesome snowboarding is!). You did well. Getting off the lift is honestly the biggest problem for most new riders and I was happy to see you were mostly unscathed. As others have mentioned, lessons are huge. But you can also get lessons on TH-cam these days. Check out beginner rider videos and I bet they will help you a ton!
As a newbie to snowboarding myself I can only suggest lessons. Also Malcolm Moore has a ton of videos for all skill levels. Things started to click for me once i watched his videos.
a big tip that helped me on toeside, was to relax your shins into the front of the boots. Then its not trying to put down the toe edge with just your toes, you're able to just lean forward onto your shins and leverage your board onto its toe edge. Added bonus, it helps force you to bend you knees
Don’t be afraid of speed ! Edge transition is a lot easier with a bit of speed ! It allows the concave edge of your snowboard to cut into and through the snow, giving you a makeshift platform that lets the ride be smoother and less chattery
thanks! last weekend I learned to carve both directions, but speed still shook me a little. Will keep this in mind for next time and will try in the next video :)
You did super good for your first time on the slopes, I'm impressed. Something that may help you on your tow side is your bindings look like they are pretty far back. If you loosed them up and moved them forword towards your toes it I would probably help.
Thanks! Honestly, my family wasn’t interested in skiing or snowboarding growing up, and we didn’t have much money for that kind of thing. Having my girlfriend, who snowboards, is a huge help for me now with getting into the sport, and also having control of my own finances has let me be able to get into winter sports more! :)
@@OgdenSikel I know, it is for me too but prices are crazy nowadays and you are easily into the 300s for a new model normal boot not even talking about special boots like step on for example ;) but yeah, those are usually not worth it for beginners or people who don't board 20+ days a season

This is some great advice, I really appreciate this. Thank you! Will keep this in mind next time I go in a couple weeks!

ps. Practice this in your living room, you'll see what I mean... and also good job for your first day, that was really solid
thats a great tip, thanks! I'll try that next time I go! :)

thanks! hmmmm you might be right about the bindings actually...I'll look into that!
check this out! ...it didn't work
might be the most relatable thing i've seen in any skateboarding video
I surfed and skated for years and also thought snowboarding would be easy. Just keep at it.
Thanks! Just went again yesterday and am a whole lot better! Recorded some clips I’m going to edit today for another vid!
*Yewwh!*

Nice first sesh! kinda hard to believe you've never snowboarded before when even MN has the afton alps. What held you back all these yrs?
