    I think the reason his daughter is more grown up than the time she died is because of all the times he watered the tree for her

    To People here saying that it was pointless to water a stick.. It was also pointless to give the girl the water because she had no chance of surviving a fever in a desert. But humans live on hope.

      And it wasn´t pointless. That stick didn´t grow in the desert. But - just like his daughter - it grew in the afterlife, where it marked the meeting point for his daughter to wait and for him to find her. Or at least that may have been his final thought, instead of: "This is too much sand.".

    It doesn’t matter if the stick grew into a tree or not, it was the gesture and love that mattered most

    • @dumplingexplorer5034
      @dumplingexplorer5034 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Umm... yes it did matter. That’s why the title is called “tree” because the old man kept on watering the stick, it wasn’t growing because the tree in the afterlife was the stick that the old man was watering. The more good you do on earth, the same thing you get in the afterlife.

What i was trying to say is that no matter what dangers may try to destroy you, believing or faith can make you strong, and will give you good. If you believe that one day you wanna become an actor, you would have the passion to help you get there. But if you don’t believe you will become an actor, then you will most likely fail.

  • @popohehe5766
    @popohehe5766 4 ปีที่แล้ว +592

    This might be me, but I had a feeling that yes- this short film could be perceived as how hard loved ones work to make you happy, and how selfless they can be, but I also had the impression of it being about failure as well. That no matter how hard you work at something, no matter how much soul and blood and sweat you pour into it, if the "soil" isn't furtile, nothing will grow. This can also be applied to the girl. The Father was trying his very best to keep her from dying, but she needs more than just water. Realistically, she needs medicine, food, and a safe place to live. The tree needs more than just water. It needs an environment that's capable of letting things grow. There's how you intend and hope things to be, and what they actually are. The Father's intentions was nothing but good, but his hard work didn't go anywhere. This isn't because he didn't work hard enough, rather that where he was is impossible to work in.

    This short film is about loss. This short film is about grief. This short film is about how no matter how hard you try, no matter how much you love someone, sometimes you just lose them. Sometimes people just die. But that doesn’t mean that you stop loving them. You keep loving that person, even though they’re dead, and you’ll love them until the day *you* die because life is unjust that way. Some people might say that that’s a depressing message. To those people I say “This message is not for you.”

    I lost my grandfather almost 2 years ago now, and I’m still battling with the intense grief and loss that that entails. He was such an instrumental person in my childhood, and unlike my other grandparents, whose flaws become more and more apparent every passing year, he was just a genuinely good guy. He was old, and we all knew he didn’t have much time left, but the news still came as a shock and a tragedy. I think that part of why the pain of loss is so intense is that it always feels like it happens too soon, like you should have had more time, even if that sentiment isn’t really reasonable.
    This short encapsulates that in such a visceral, raw way. Every time I need to cry, *really* cry, I go here. Thank you for this. Thank you so much.

    This may or may not be the idea behind the animation, but I have a thought. Perhaps the tree in the little girl's afterlife was only growing and blooming *because* the man kept the watering the "tree". It reminds me of the Pixar movie Coco, where as long as we remember someone, they're spirit literally lives on, but this adds a step to it by creating a bigger more beautiful afterlife for the departed by doing little things to remember them by.

    I think the great thing about this one is that regardless of the simplicity of the story -- every step of the way is predictable, with every introduced story element you know where its going -- it's still easy to enjoy and be invested in the story simply due to how well and how efficiently it's told. The consistency with the shapes in the world, and the graphical shot compositions are also just lovely. Overall it's just a seamlessly tied together package. Everything about is just efficient and beautiful.

    What a great film. Amazing how this animation provokes meaningful emotions with such simple characters and a simple story in a very short amount of time. I've watched countless live-action movies with much more time and budget to work with by comparison, but these bigger films can't manage to create characters or stories anyone actually cares about on the same level that this small animated short did. I also love that this was done using 2D. Still would have been great as 3D rendered, but the 2D art and animation gave it more charm in my opinion.

    My favorite story. My dream would become animator and be able to tell stories that make people feel like they are not alone. Humans are simple creatures, we just need promises of hope and love to fill the void of our existence... We all cry and smile the same way.
    Animated movies protected me so much from boredom and violence during my childhood. I feel like I was alive through my favorite characters. Even if I'm not able to realize my dream, I hope good people will keep telling great stories like this one. The ones that teach how to love to those who feel lonely. 💕

    For anyone still watching in 2020, the theme is love keeps an individual together even in tough situations. This is because the old man worked those hard hours pumping water for his girl, and also continued life after his girl died, he kept it together and kept growing that tree.
    OR
    The theme is love creates an unbreakable bond even in tough situations. Basically for the same reasons.

    My own interpretation of this short film was that it tells us that it's better to try, to at least have something to hold on to. It's not pointless to hope for the stick to grow and become a tree, what's pointless is not trying. In real life, we tend to judge the outcome, even before we start to do it. We often jump into conclusions. We scare ourselves that's why we are afraid to try doing it. We tend to say to ourselves that "Nothing will happen, it's pointless". It seemed like he watered the stick in his world (nothing happened) and didn't grow but turned to a healthy tree in the place where his daughter is. Btw, anyone watching this during the pandemic ?

Even after her death, he spends his last days giving water to a stick. And, he even tries to save this false tree. I don’t know how he’s been able to service that long, but that just shows his dedication to his daughters wish and dream. 10/10

    I think what happened is that. Yeah the daughter is dead as well as the tree. Butt the promise he made for his daughter to keep watering the tree even though its dead. Butt in the after life while he keeps on watering the tree as he gets old he still waters the tree and it grows. Probably the spirit of his daughter saw the tree growing and she just sat there cuz she remembered that her father is still watering the tree. So she waited then when the sand storm arived and took the life or her father. The father also has entered the after life and saw the tree and his daughter grown up.

    SubhanAllah, this really is so heart touching! After I saw, I felt a deeper love for my father, and I thought about how hard our parents work for us. Parents are such a blessing that they would die for you if it meant your survival. Those of us who have parents, guys, I think it's time we show them how much they mean to us. One day, we (creations of God) are all meant to die, but those who do good in this life will in Sha Allah be rewarded.
    Authors and animators, what an amazing story and moral you've shown us all! Thank you so so much for this! I needed it!

    I know every time the Gobelins team uploads a piece, it's going to be stunning. The technical work and skill put into each work is nothing less than jaw dropping in every instance. But there's always the story to take into account. Sometimes, it's short and cute and fun, and then you get shorts like this. The ones that, while simple and wordless, speak volumes of not only the people behind the work, but the human condition. What we do as human beings and what our actions make of us, and how not every happy ending is happy in the way we hope.
    I cried watching this. I cried hard. But it was a good kind of crying. And I feel better for having done so.
    Because despite everything, he got to see her again, and they're happy together now. And that's what really matters.

    This is one of the most beautiful things I've seen yet. Not many things bring tears to my eyes.

    Just a beautiful reminder of how beautiful life is and how important it is to value the limited times we have with our loved ones
