If Luke puts together a cookbook of traditional British holiday recipes, I will buy it! And, I expect him to include snippets of his dry humor and dorky dad jokes! Merry Christmas to you all!

Julie, while we as Americans can appreciate all the many Christmas
traditions in the UK, thank you for upholding our US traditions!!! Both are enriching!!! You and Luke are very blessed!! Merry Christmas!!

I am American and I grew up, along with my four siblings, waking up to our stockings on the foot of our beds. I always thought as I grew up that it was to give our parents more sleep time as we were all occupied and excited discovering our goodies. We carried on the tradition with our children and now our 4 grandchildren. HOWEVER, as I live in Tuscany in Italy...I rather like the children receiving their stockings on January 6th, the Ephiany from La Befana. Love and blessings to ALL no matter what traditions you may have. Keep it simple....less IS more!

When I was growing up (I live in the U.S.) the stockings were filled with fruit, nuts, candy and one small stocking stuffer (wrapped gift) that we opened first thing before breakfast, then opened presents after breakfast.
I'm from a large family, we drew names as we became adults. Now, I just buy gifts for my Great nieces and nephews.

Stockings are a lifelong tradition! Every year we have stockings....and we're much more seasoned than 18! As a Canadian with deep Yorkshire and Brittany roots, traditions are history....a continuation of yore....to be upheld forever. Similar thought process with Christmas Crackers...great fun tradition! !Yes to more "Cooking with Luke"! Salut du Canada 🫶🇨🇦

Americans most definitely have poppers and crackers in the southern states. Those traditions were part of what came from Victorian ancestry. It could never be done inside the home but was taken outside while enjoying the cool evening air. My Grandmother cooked and baked food from that time period. She had a wood burning stove and made a fresh coconut cake for dessert which was served Christmas evening after dinner.

Merry Christmas to you and your family! Those are lovely stockings! They would make great decorations now they aren't being filled anymore. Hmm, if the kids aren't too attached to them remaining in original form, they would look amazing as pillows. Mend the holes and stuff with pillow filler. Would look cute with a little stuffed animal peeking out of the top.

Merry Christmas, it's Christmas Eve day here. No turkey, did that, no stuffing, did that too. Can't stand bread sauce and the last Christmas pudding tasted like rubber. So we are having delicious roast beef, roast potato, carrots, parsnips, brussel sprouts, Yorkshire pudding, mashed potato, peas and Christmas cookies. The perfect match of America and England. Oh I forgot the Christmas Crackers. Having those too. So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

As a child here in Australia I didn't have a stocking but a pillowcase that was left at the foot of my bed and Father Christmas filled it to overflowing during the night, none of the gifts in it were gift wrapped then I would get separate presents from my Mum and Dad on Christmas morning. We also have turkey, chicken, prawns and ham for Christmas lunch followed by plum pudding with custard, cream and ice cream and pavlova for those who aren't into pudding. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving at all. Hope you and your family had a very Merry Christmas xxx

Yes, we do have Christmas Crackers in the US. Santa does the stockings (my children are 32, 29, and 25 and we have no plans for stopping those) that are filled to the rim with unwrapped items and they need to be placed in front of the fireplace because of their size. Santa usually only brings one gift under the tree/left by the stockings while the rest of the gifts are wrapped from Mom and Dad, siblings and other relatives.

My good friend is from the UK ,living in Wisconsin, USA & every year for Thanksgiving she makes bread sauce. I love it with turkey gravy! At first I didn’t care for it but then I acquired taste for it & look forward to it.
Luke perhaps the Christmas pudding needs a lot more brandy to have the appropriate flame. It’s a thought. In our family Santa only brings 1 gift… each year a book. The rest of the gifts are from family & friends. I love homemade eggnog. Great tradition for your kids to make it now.

🇳🇿✨Happy Christmas, lovelies, from New Zealand.
Luke, we always had pillow slips which we found on armchairs & couches etc on Christmas morning. I can still remember the excitement, because I'm from a family of 9 children, & we didn't really have a lot of treats. We always got our shoes, sandals, a dress, shorts or a shirt each that my mum made, underwear etc (that she also made-ugh!), because we were growing so fast. We got books, paint boxes, puzzles, school stationery, colouring-in books, the little plastic 'pop' beads (you could add beads to your strand each year because they popped into each other), some clear nail polish if we were considered old enough, or rouge if we were over 15. Sometimes we'd get a picture for our room, or a beach towel or new swimsuits if we'd outgrown our old ones. It was so much fun!
Because chicken was for special occasions back then, we'd enjoy a roast chicken meal with stuffing & crispy roast potatoes & green vegetables (our dad thought salads weren't festive enough). After that we were sent outside (usually wearing our new swimsuits) to eat
Ice-cream slices, a New Zealand favourite (two plain wafers with a slice of vanilla ice-cream in between), then we'd all play bull rush or some party games & the sprinkler would go on. That provided fun, a clean-up for sticky, icecream speckled children, & a well earned 'break' for our poor mum who normally had a toddler or a new baby to run around after. It was a time when we knew a treat was a treat, because sweets were special occasion things as well. So much more special when it's not an everyday event ✨🇳🇿

Merry Christmas to you all and all your hardworking crew! Happy New Year! May all problems easily be solved and money keep rolling in. BTW: an idea: Does Mapperton have a couple of long hillsides that could be opened to the public for snowy fun? Coasting, tobogganing, a little easy skiing? And shop with hot chocolate and bread with butter and sugar? Hot macaroni and cheese! Benches nearby for mommies to sit and chat as they keep an eye on the small fry? It looks to me like you do! How about a welcome sign at the road "Welcome! Come for sledding while the snow lasts! Slopes for all levels of expertise!" Silhouette drawing of kids pulling sleds and carrying flying saucers, include a dog or two.. You might even arrange with a shop in town to sell coasting stuff. Is there a low spot in a field or meadow that could be flooded for skating? The same low marshy area to offer the birds flying over in fall? Remember it has to be below freezing for five days straight before it can hold an adult weight. Remember that steep hillside that was starting to slip beside the road? That looked like one heck of a fun ride if its a clear shot down! Heather and gorse bushes at the bottom for a soft stop.(Unless they have thorns? OOps. I don't know!) Maybe prep something like that in the coming year for next winter? $10 bucks a day for road maintenance, Or, just free to all kids below 100 years!! LOL !! Fun! A toddler slope and a wild, daring ride for older kids. Maybe rent sleds, flying saucers, toboggans? Would your weather support the effort? If someone gets stuck in the snow, you have the gear to pull them out.

I find that most families have their own traditions and there isn’t one “American” way to do it and it’s also regional.
For instance we always did satsumas in the stocking and had a ton of gifts in them, frequently needing a bag for overflow. Also, Santa only brought a few gifts, not all the ones that were under the tree.
Merry Christmas. Also, we do stockings even when everyone is grown!

In Canada Santa Claus leaves the gifts with the stocking. The family gifts are placed under a tree. We used to cut down our own tree on a farm and then put it up. The problem with that is the branches fall a bit within a day. And there is also an issue of misjudging height of the room. So often we had to cut the base of the tree so the angel would fit on top. One year the tree was so wide once the branches descended it took up half the living room. We were able to lie under the tree once the lights and decorations were one the tree. The gifts would later be placed under the tree (maybe 100 packages total).

Happy Christmas, Luke & Julie! 🎄⭐🎄 I will be passing on the bread sauce, as cloves are not a favorite of mine. Cloves of garlic, however, are another story, and perhaps a modification of Luke's recipe I might consider trying!

Loved hearing about all the Christmas Traditions, both British and American! It's fun to compare them both, also to see how they differ. I've learned about a few British ones I wasn't aware of before! You both have so much to prepare for, but it all sounds marvelous and I'm sure everyone will love it! All my best to your whole family - Merry Christmas!!!

I love your vlogs. It’s a comforting part of my life to watch you and I have to say that you are the most humble from the LOL series. You were yourself then and continue to be yourself and it’s quite refreshing in this day and age. Kudos!

I loved this tea time...laughed constantly (love Luke's dry wit) and finally know what is in bread gravy! Luke, you are fantastic, but bread gravy will never be tried by me - LOL Thank you for such fun, interesting Tea Time and only the best of the new year to you and your family and may Mapperton thrive like never before 🙂

Hi Julie and Luke. I’m an American and Santa only brought the contents of our stockings and one big present very to the stocking. And we had Christmas pudding with coins in it.

I am not sure how the two of you get anything done. It keeps going back and forth and Luke keeps adding more and more to the "to do list". I think he enjoys Christmas more than the children do!!!
