@@johndonovan5752 The narrator of the movie DID say it. The battle plan actually WAS overly optimistic. That excerpt matches the dictionary definition of non-fiction.

Nobody ever mentions that the Soviets tipped off the Germans in order to free up the Red Army with Stalin having been informed by his Cambridge Spy Ring
I'm not a veteran, but I am a lifelong student of naval history. I would add They Were Expendable, directed by John Ford. It's about PT boat crews early in World War 2 fighting a losing battle against the Japanese in the Philippines until their squadron is, quite literally, expended. It ends with two of the squadron's officers just making it onto the last plane out in order to take their invaluable experience home to train the PT boat crews who will one day take the fight to the Japanese. It's a story of courage and endurance in the face of total defeat, with just a hint of the long, hard fight and eventual victory to come. It was filmed in Florida using real PT boats, and the top-billed star, Robert Montgomery, had served as a PT boat officer during the war.
The " Longest Day" had a large number of actual D-Day veterans advising their on screen counterparts, too. And the Brit actor at Pegasus Bridge actually was at Pegasus Bridge, although he wasn't the commander like he portrayed.
Midway (1976) I saw in the theater with my WWII US Navy veteran father who served in the Pacific and we both thought this movie was one of the worst we had ever seen. It was a soap opera and it certainly doesn't belong with the other movies you mention and doesn't hold a candle to Tora, Tora, Tora, which was the Pacific version to The Longest Day. US Army - Retired!
I was surprised at that pick, too. I’m sorry, but War movies shouldn’t have women in them. Well, MASH was good but they were nurses. If a war movie has women in it, it’s to appeal to the females in the audience, only.
No veteran would every say that bridge over river Kwai was any 1 thing but realistic I am 63 and had relatives that were on the Burma railway and they saw it was a joke Very much a insult to the people that built the bridge
my health has been so much better lately. a few months ago, i was struggling with energy and feeling off, but now i’ve been waking up early, feeling energized, and hitting my workout goals every single day. i didn’t do anything drastic, just started focusing on feeling healthy and strong. i think it has to do with this book, Vibrations of Manifestation by Alex Lane, that i read. it talks about how focusing your energy on your goals really shifts things, and i guess it worked for me.
I am a real life Veteran, 1973 Combat Engineer 12B2J First Engineer Bn Aco, 1st Platoon Third Squad Leader. The Three greatest War Films, WW1: Paths of Glory, WW2: Cross of Iron and Todays War on Terror: Lone Survivor PERIOD We are talking these films will give Veterans nightmares, flash backs Or just piss them off and make them sweat.
I would have considered Castel Keep another film about the Battle of the Bulge which is hugely underrated. Possibly because it showed things from the perspective of the noncombatant citizens, and explores the frustrations of soldiers who are also independent thinkers.
Find "Come and See" hear on TH-cam with English sub titles , get through the first 1/2 hour . I have never seen such a brutal war film, never makes theys lists as its not Hollywood
The movie "A Bridge to Far" is based on historian Cornelius Ryan's book. His book is based on his interviews of actual combatants of this failed operation. The same for his book "The Longest Day". Too bad they didn't make a movie of his third book, "The Last Battle".
Both A Bridge to Far, and The Longest Day are based on Cornelius Ryan's books of the same name. I highly recommend reading them. Tora! Tora! Tora! needs to be on this list. It was a huge Pear Harbor epic film that involved Japanese and Americans in the filming.
Tell you the truth I find it as a BS list ...maybe one or two of the best war movies the rest are drama No paths of glory, Apocalypse now or Cross of Iron ,,,,,,really?
@@ValleyProud916I’m not an AI and I’ve always said Boot. I don’t speak German, and I don’t care how Germans say it. And yes, I own the DVD and I read the book.
Oh, you are in trouble if I tell my Mommy (87 yo) you said that! He was her absolute heart throb way back when… OTOH, I never thought he was terrible, but to each his own. 😊
A Bridge Too Far is not a "fictionalized" account of Operation Market Garden. It's a dramatized account of the battle.
The narrator might have mentioned the fact that Montgomery's plan was overly optimistic.

I would substitute Tora, Tora, Tora for Midway. It's superior in every way.
Yep. Half of "Midway" is "Tora, Tora, Tora", too.
The " Longest Day" had a large number of actual D-Day veterans advising their on screen counterparts, too. And the Brit actor at Pegasus Bridge actually was at Pegasus Bridge, although he wasn't the commander like he portrayed.
There's Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line, and then there's everything else.
Excellent presentation.
I agree with most of these picks.
Tora Tora Tora has to be included!
Bridges of Toko-Ri with William Holden would be another.
Awesome Korean War movie. This movie concerns only WWII movies.
My Best WW2 Movie ..."Attack" (1956) with Jack Palance.

I have seen them all great video
Cross Of Iron would have been a good one in the mix

No BIG RED ONE huh ? It should be in the list . It was made by a war veteran that served .
Fact, the submarine in Das Boot is the same submarine in Raiders of the Lost Ark(both movies released in 1981).

The only one I've not seen is "battleground" - all the rest are true classics so now have to watch that - thanks!
Where is "Saving Private Ryan:?????????

Tell Spike Lee that omission is not racist.
To the late Roger Ebert, "A Bridge Too Far" is a downer because that's how Cornelius Ryan wrote the book.
The Pacific, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, All Quiet on the Western Front, Iron Cross?
It is pronounce Boat.
'Das Boot' is pronounced 'Boat' in German.
EVERY channel seems to pronounce it wrong for whatever reason.
AI narration ruins the entire video!!!
