“OMG her reins”, “her heels”, “I was trotting the first time I rode a horse” ... these comments are highly annoying and insensitive! She’s a total beginner, who appears to be nervous, on a rather large horse. Most of these “first lesson trotters” probably started riding quite young (with an interest in horses), when the fear of falling off and getting hurt wasn’t an issue. Let’s just appreciate the fact she gave it a really good attempt!
I kinda want to agree with you, but on the other hand... I was twenty-two when our trainer on second lesson (the first one took too long on horse care basics to do something more than 5 minute walk on lunge for everyone) said: "let's trot" (and I was scared as f*ck)
It varies based on person. I’ve seen trainers do a few trot strides on the first lesson in hand. I’ve also seen people wait a few weeks before it. Usually the people trotting are little kids being led. They’re excited and not as nervous as someone who’s old enough to know “ hey this could get me hurt)”. Plus it’s easier to support a -60 pound kid than an 120+ adult while on ground. I’ve seen adults who are put on baby sitters trot pretty early as well, the jobs a lot easier when the horse knows to catch you. I’m more disappointed in him as a trainer for not correcting things like her hands and explaining why and what she needs to do. Of course he is probably more use to training people with more background in riding so it’s easy to forget beginners know nothing.
hannah But this is for entertainment. She is scared of horses and this is probably the last time she’ll ever ride, so why would he constantly correct her. He probably had a lot of problems on the bike, but no one is talking about that.
i think most people complaining are not particularily complaining about her, but more about him. he could at least told her how to hold the reins. it would have made it easier for her. she had no idea what to do. he barely explained anything to her that would have actually been helpful for her.
People who are commenting mean things about her and other people ruin this sport. They give the sport and industry a bad reputation, clearly this was her first time on a horse she isn't going to be perfect, and he isn't going to stress over small things when its only for fun clearly she isn't going to be a show jumper, let alone get on a horse again. More people would ride and enjoy the sport more if it weren't for pretentious people who feel the need to be so judgmental on someone who just got on a horse and is scared.
To every salty equestrian who didn’t like how she was riding remember how long it took you to learn how to ride on a basic lesson horse, let alone an Olympic level jumper. It’s like beginners don’t exist at all to you people and everyone who gets on is expected to understand years of training at once jeez!
i was thinking the exact same thing and everyone in the comments were like 'uhm, no honey, that's not true' and I was like UGHhh seriously? Do people really expect her to know EVERYthINg about riding a horse all at once? Agree with you to 100%, jeez!
I am an equestrian myself and totally agree with your comment! It took me years to learn how to balance and do basic things; 6 years after starting, I learnt new things on a CSO horse and it took me quite some time to adjust (let alone learn more advanced things) as he was used to be ridden a certain way so I had to change. I think as long as people do their best, listen to what the teacher/owner/... says and don't hurt the horse (riding a horse too small for them, ...), I want to say congrats on trying! It's not easy to decide to sit 5-6 feet high, on an animal you don't have full control of and just try your best! Honestly, put me on a softball team and I'll probably end up hurting 5 people in the span of an hour, because I've never done that before. Anyway, people should always remember - it doesn't matter what they are good at - that they started by having to learn everything. Glad someone else remembers being a beginner and being "bad" compared to how good they are now
EXACTLY - you can tell how nervous she was. Most people are learning to ride because they really WANT to do so, yeah they might be scared too but there's a different motivation. Admit I'm a little stumped over why the reins were so bad but maybe she tried it the right way and for some reason in the short amount of time it wasn't working. A pretty small human on a very big horse (who BTW was such a sweetheart) I think they both did really well and had a great time
I love how they were both so supportive and understanding of each other; they weren't trying to out-compete one another and when they each showed signs of fear the other encouraged and assured then rather than belittled them. That's what good sportsmanship is.
I rode a few times as I was doing a horse riding course stared as a beginner and it was much harder than I expected even tho I expected it to be hard, working with your horse is hard and controlling each move but another thing people don’t really realise is your body position, it’s hard to get into that routine, you aren’t always used to keeping your back and head straight, I never knew how much just having your head down could actually knock your horse off balance and make the ride much more difficult, there is a lot to it and a huge thing is trust, first time riding ok you probably won’t have that full trust it’s not easy you have to build yourself to trust the horse or you will not work well together your bad vibes effect them there is so much more to horse riding that people who have never done it wouldn’t even give a second thought
let’s be real though, equestrians work their butts off to make it SEEM ‘easy’. especially dressage riders. i think that’s so funny, we all get a little mad when non-horse people claim horse riding is easy but then we train for years and years to learn how to make it seem like you’re not doing anything when you’re riding your horse. i mean, watch a video of edward gal in a dressage competition with his horse totilas (rest in peace); that man doES NOT MOVE i aspire to ride like that one day
they really should have had him learning to ride a bike for the first time if they were to make it fair. or have her know at least a little about riding horses
Savannah R. Kerr That term "Barn Witch" has been around for at least 50 years. I don't like giving him credit for coming up with it lol Which he didn't but so many people think he has all this secret knowledge when in fact he just likes to talk a lot.
WhenTheWindigoComes He is a better rider than you will ever be. And he does ride, he just reviews videos and gives his opinion. He has nothing with girls or bits, but thats what y'all seem to get out of his videos.
All of those "equestrians" saying: "omg look at her hands" "look at her heels" I bet she looks better than most of you on your first time over a horse... I really would love to see you all trying to do half of what she can do on a bike, if you were real equestrians you would know how difficult is to get on a horse on the first time, and to control it... you would know how to respect a person who is trying for the first time...
miguel haghenbeck so true I’ve got my own horses and compete motocross ( dirt bikes ) and both take so long to learn it’s crazy that people think that the first time they ever rode a horse/pony they were perfect
Eeeeh. Idk. 'Cause you're always told how to hold the reins. Her being able to do that on the bike has nothing to do with it! "I'd like to see you try and do half of the stuff she can do on a bike." That doesn't matter! 😂 They have a right to complain about how she was holding the reins! Actually, it's a fault of his since he didn't tell her how to hold them in the first place! Yes, I get that it's her first time but don't get so butthurt over one thing! I agree that they shouldn't be whining but still! Ngl, I was also annoyed by how she was holding them 😂
That doesen't matter? Why it doesen't matter if they can complain about that I can't about this, I have seen riders who gets everything easily in their first class, and others who ride even worse than the girl in the video, but with trainning now on day they ride waay better than you 🤷🏻♂️
@@miguelhaghenbeck5671 Stop trying to be funny, it just makes you look even more stupid! It doesn't make sense since I said "You're so butthurt." 😂😂😂 Plus, I didn't say you couldn't complain. You've never seen me ride and probably never will so....
She was not holding the reins improperly lmao....she was holding in them in a style called "driving reins" which is useful for new riders because it is impossible to balance/brace on your hands this way. (and yes i acknowledge she held her hands way too high)
Emily Croucher ohh I've never heard of that before but it sounds like a good idea. when I first learned to ride we just had to grab onto the front of the saddle for support until we got the balance to ride without accidentally pulling on the horses mouth.
Jen Burton - some people use that hand position as a tool to teach the rider not to brace on their hands. It's called a driving rein because it's similar how you hold them for driving a carriage.
For someone who hasn't ridden like her she did rather well. I agree though some things needed to be changed as in my first lesson many years ago i was already trotting.
Sidthememekid as an equestrian I can confirm that most of the time, equestrians are poor as all of the money is going on your horse for bills and farriers tack and things like that
@@juddjohnson-smith886 you have a choice to have a horse. You are rich before you spend your spare money on them. The fact you have money to have them says a lot and most people wouldn't be able to afford this. I work 6 hours a day to ride once a week in a hope it will be enough for me to pass bhs 1 exam and get into equine college...
And the people who can afford multi million dollar horses, are usually not the ones who can ride them. The ones who can ride them usually could never afford them.
tbh I hold my reins like that if I feel I get to strong in my hand. And every horse I try it on loves it, the tension goes away quick and its a great way to learn how its suppose to feel to have a stable hand which is great in dressage. The traditional way to hold make you very strong, many riders pull their horse to much in the mouth. So it wouldnt surprise me if he told her to hold em like that to be gentle to the horse.
It was bothering me the entire time as well. But reading these comments (Ilsabella Klostermann) makes me understand. If she was holding them the correct way she could have hurt his mouth.
As an equestrian, let me say that riding a horse is more dangerous and more difficult than riding a bike: you have to control your body, and you need to control a huge animal's body too. You need to stay focused and keep the horse concentrated as well.
FlyingIntoTheStorm I agree but bmx is extremely hard too. Both my dad and my brother did it competitively for a while and I also did it for a while and it does take alot of strength too, bur horse riding is harder
Haylee Swan so true I train 5 times a week on my Bike and still fall of frequently. I have had so many visits to Accident and emergency. So I feel they are equally as dangerous because horses can be unpredictable and well
I really enjoyed this video! They both were so nice and did a great job! And don't be too harsh with her, it was the first time for her to ever even touch a horse 😅
I’ve only been riding for 3 years and only started jumping 2 years ago. Their was no way she would even get to trotting let alone jumping. But she showed some good effort.
Depends what covers for riding for that 3 years of yours, I am riding for 3 years too, at first lesson we were learning how to clean horses and such with very short walk on lunge, on the second and third lessons we were learning balancing without holding reins in trot (still lunge), on the fourth lesson... we were left unaided to comprehend horse walk and a little trot on our own and by fifth lesson we were walking and trotting (horribly) but still on our own. (Lessons were aprox. 1.5h but it was winter so prepping horses was taking approx. 30 minutes - we were doing it on our - not experienced - own) So don't tell me it's no chance she would get to trotting because sure she would. Even to cantering - you don't need to learn anything to canter on horse as long as you're athletic, have a good feel for your own body (balancing and stuff) and as long as it's well mild mannered, self-balanced horse (not a cuckoo in recreational riding school) I hope I will get back to riding soon, I miss it so much :< Cheers :)
Turbulencje I can guarantee she shouldn’t get to a trot. And here’s my reasons. The horse, it’s his grand peer horse, used to a trained rider, not a green rider. Her attitude- in the beginning she had a fear of the horse, on the ground and on the horse. The time- maybe not even a 1 hour lesson on that horse. Seemed to be get on do a little something then get off. And her overall experience would obviously set her back a lot.
They obviously did it the wrong way, shouldn't have give her reins at all and lunge her around - she surely would trot without problem. No one has problems with trotting on lunge. But that clip is made for public, it's not documentary. That's why they skipped all that parts you have to go through until trainer trusts you with his horse's mouth. Nobody would find it interesting...
Oh. I trotted on my first lesson but thank god they were holding the horse and i was holding onto the saddle woth one hand otherwise i would have died😂. But she could probably do a little trot if she tried hard enough and she had enough time.
Omg! Thank you! My brothers have been riding bmx for 5 years. On the other hand I've been horseback riding for 8 years now, so this was very interesting to watch.❤️🇺🇸😁
“OMG those reins ugh” “her heels tho” “I trotted the first time I rode a horse!” “she looks so bad on the horse” Thats her first time, she rides a bike, obviously she cant ride since its her first time. Let her be, dont be so sensitive for a beginner. She’s accostumed to riding a bike, not another living creature. Y’all are so sensitive 😑
I just love how they both show equal respect for each other's sport even though they obviously love the ones they do themselves the most 🤗 None of them said they're sport is harder or better and they paid respect to the efforts that it takes to do BMX/ horse riding!
I enjoyed this a lot! Actually you now covered my two favourite sports in the Olympics: Rhythmic Gymnastics and Horse Riding! I myself want to get to the Olympics either in dressage or in eventing, so watch out in Tokyo or in Paris, as I would be 28 in Paris (so I think I'd retire then). But let me just say how amazing his stable looks! Unbelievable! Not comparable to those I ride at 😅! Thanks for 11:19 of happiness, Olympics! ❤️
I LOVED his attitude when teaching and learning ! He was so funny ... “come to me” “he’s not coming” .... or “no no I’m not gonna do that, I’ll stay safe . Let’s call it quits , coz I’m dying!!!” 😂😂😂🤩🤩🤩
This video was great! Everyone really needs to stop judging her and also stop bashing other sports. I understand horseback riding is very different from all sports considering your “equipment” has a mind of its own and can kill you at any moment, but saying her sport is easy and she doesn’t have to do much is just downright rude. Us equestrians hate when people say horseback riding isn’t a sport and we don’t do much, so why can we say it about other sports?
I feel like when you do this series it gives people the understanding and appreciation for the sports if you look at it from a neutral point of view and for these two I feel like it may have given them more appreciation for the other sports and each other.
I just love that to test, he did a track where all she could do was walk around a post. This just shows that there are no ‘easy’ parts of horse riding and that every skill takes training and determination.
good effort but they are TOTALLY different sports in my opinion as hard as BMX is in my opinion horse riding is harder because its the only sport where the equipment can choose to disagree with you... No h8 I get people will disagree with me but opinions guys, not facts.
Oh come on, that's no fair. How would you like it if someone said. "Like all they do is ride around and jump jumps. It's so dumb and stupid." Exactly, you would feel hurt, right? It's YOUR sport, don't bash down others just because they don't like the same sport as you.
I wouldn't care tbh because that's an uneducated coment about horse riding, we have multiple disciplines and only 3 (that I can remember atm) have jumps, so it wouldn't hurt or offend me (or anyone that I know). But yeah I have to agree with you, it's not okay to bash down others and other sports as much as we don't agree or think that "it doesn't make any sense, it's just stupid". I've done Basketball, Soccer, Handball, Ballet, Badminton, Volleyball and finally set down with horse riding every sport has it's level of difficulty and each of them are difficult in their own way, BUT I do think that you need to have a "special touch" for horse riding since you have to be able to connect with an animal :)
But people DO say that about riding. All. The. Time. People try to tell us it's not a sport at all. I can't tell you how many times people say "All you do is sit up there and the horse does all the work." or "You just point the horse at a jump and it jumps it, whats so hard about that?" or "I'm sure it takes SOME degree of skill to get around on a horse, but..." Honestly, equestrian sport is the most underrated sport because it's not taken seriously. If you're not a "cowboy" or jockey, people disregard you as an athlete, which is completely unfair. I've never heard anyone try to put down BMX biking because it's simply more mainstream.
your point is ? I've heard that multiple times, I've had people say that I wasn't a real athlete that the horse did all the work, show 'em wrong. Just because they bash our sport it doesn't give us the right to bash other sports.
Sofia Soares they weren’t bashing either sport. They were replying to the comment saying how would you like it if someone said this and they replied saying that people do say that all the time.
Best series on this channel, hands down. As funny and comedic certain episodes are, it really shows that there's always something to learn from fellow athletes in other sports. Each discipline is it's very contained world, with specific sets of skills and body requirements. But general principles of sports discipline do apply absolutely everywhere.
Ive been riding (not frequently bc i dont have a horse but still) a lot this year and im finally able to trot with some control. Just because you learn fast doesnt mean everyone else does. Also just think of how great this video is to show people who say "Riding a horse is easy, you dont even do anything"
@@quinn9329 umm...I havent even said anything in the comments yet...that is in no way snooty. Their simply noticing things, she's a beginner and obviously she's not going to get everything right on the first try but everyone saying those things are just relating to eachother. And ya...it isn't easy, either you have a "push a button" horse or a huge ego to think it's easy (if your saying that, I don't know if that's what u mean but I'm still going to point it out)
I love how she tried to get the horse moving by shaking the reins, because they always do that in cartoons or really bad reality shows so people think that is the right way😂she gave it a really good attempt! It is really hard to get control over such a big horse the first or second time you ride a horse, and I think she did really well!💞💞
Shania Blake the video is literally about comparing the sports... riding a bike is what she’s familiar with, so that’s what she compares it with. She is not saying the horse is a machine.
I believe she did very good for her time as newbies are actually terrified on touching or even getting on top on the horse. I'm also glad that she tried to see a connection between riding a bike and a horse with the idea that it involves more leg than hands. It's definitely difficult for first timers but it takes a lot of practice.
Giving the BMX Girl credit where it's due: That's not a beginner's horse, most likely one of the "quieter" horses in the barn she can use. I've never seen a beginner's horse ignore the simplest commands, despite the loose reins, and wander off like: "Eh... No."
Most equestrians arent saying bmx is easy they're just kinda saying I told you so to all the people who think equestrianism is easy. The few that are saying bmx is easy are quite wrong though. Both sports are hard and dangerous.
@@waititisnt just riding a bmx is easy but doing anything more than tthat like tricks, pumping, jumps etc takes years of experience same with horse riding
Her candor is adorable when she says how cool it is that he can control the horse with the reins, because he's more likely to use his legs than his hands for pretty much everything haha (he says it himself, push on the right leg and the horse turns left) (I mean, the reins help control the shoulders of your horse, but you do most of the job with your legs, in general (when you get to higher levels of riding, at least)).
This goes to show how difficult of a sport riding actually is. For the first time he tried BMX he was able to work with little amount of time and actually get better. With the same given amount of time she could still only walk with the horse. Also can we just appreciate that both men and women compete together. Love this sport.
obviously, you don't have to go around calling names. I'm just saying it is way harder to work with an animal than with an object. Also, I've given lessons to people who have never been on a horse and they trot their first lesson. Most riding lessons go like that.
I give anyone and everyone props for even attempting to ride a horse, especially as an adult when your body doesn't bounce back from injuries as quickly. Equestrian is a sport that requires a lot more patience and empathy than most athletes are used to. People often forget that it is indeed a team sport - it's you and the horse.
I agree, while both sports are hard the majority of the population know how to ride a bike so they have some foundation even if its minor where most dont know how to ride a horse. It's a big jump and her feeling comfortable enough to go on her own was a very big difference compared to her nervous to even mount!!
From the comments in this video one can tell how the equestrian community is. In other videos you never see people who practice the sport comment by judging everything the other person does. I can tell there’s some insane competition in the equestrian world!
Hahaha. I can only imagine what that horse is thinking because it's so used to Olympic level riders. Maybe it thought that walking only was a nice break. The mare I ride thinks the lesson should be over after walking a few minutes. LOL.
i love how he said "none of them are strong on the horse" while talking about bits. Im not saying bits are bad, but some were really just made to control the horse with pain.
Angie " horseback riding is more dangerous! Imagine if you fall from the horse" Every bmx downhill rider that has to ride on the verge of cliffs rolls their eyes
Can we all just appreciate how well behaved this horse was. This was most likely not one of his Grand Prix horses, but a very expensive amateur horse that keeps it’s rider safe.
All equestrians are triggered 😬😬😩😩😂😂that shows how hard riding is and how hard we work. With bmx you control your bike with riding your bike has a mind of its own😂😂like a bike won't refuse before a hill but one time at a horse show my horse refused before a 2.6 jump and I flew over his head😂😂😂😂
Clara Phariss and one time at a riding camp, I got put on this really difficult horse. The one day I wasn't riding her, she decided to go for a run. She pigrooted and ran away from the group leaving the staff to chase after her. I was then stuck with her for the rest of the camp.
orangeinegamer bullshit, there are horses who love to jump like there are horses who enjoy endless cantering (seeing a horse cantering in almost non-existing pace because rider said enough - priceless)
Those horses in jumping are breed for it so you know... There is nothing wrong with horse jumping, unless you mean torturing them with jumping 6 hours a day 7 days in week, because welll... that's sick.
orangeinegamer actually that's not true some horses love to be jumped and ridden I got rlly sick for 3 months and wasn't able to ride and my horse wasn't really eating that much and was jumping 5 ft gates because he was bored but guess what when I rode him again he stopped jumping gates and started eating again. Ya he totally hates being ridden😂😂makes total sense
She is just a beginner when i was a beginner i almost put my whole feet in the stirrups and it helped and look at me now im jumping 60cm and i can canter in 1 whole year!😊
Having your heel down isn't really all that important as long as your leg and foot is steady and not your foot isn't slipping through the stirrup. In dressage you hardly EVER see riders with their heels down. This girl was doing flatwork at the WALK, she wan't doing a 3'3 hunter eq course. She's fine.
I love this series so much. So much respect for all the different sports and everyone learning that each sport is different and difficult. Also: equestrians in this comment section. You are NOT representing your sport well. You are coming off like a big pack of brats. (And before you tell me that I don't know how hard it is to ride, my mother's family are ranchers. I can ride. I can herd cattle. I can tack a horse. In fact, I ride a horse better than I ride a bike. The equestrian in this video is fantastic and polite, but overall, many of you are coming off so snotty).
I think whichever you are not use to is harder to you, and everyone will think the sport they know about is more difficult until they 'really' try something else competitively. Riding a horse is not harder than riding a bike and vice versa. They are just both different. A bike uses far more of your own energy and exertion, cannot compensate for your landing for you, and competitively you are usually in rougher terrain and closer to others riding just as fast. A horse takes considerably more effort to balance on due to the second mind, has the risk of temperament or spooking beyond your control, and the jumps to brace for are much higher.
Everyone thinks equestrian isn’t a sport but it’s actually hard and it is a sport. Because other sports have a ball well equestrians ball weighs 1200 and has a mind of its own. And when you say well your not doing anything it doesn’t look like you’re doing anything. That’s a compliment bc that’s how we learn to use very little and don’t move your leg a lot and stuff like that. Like before you say equestrian is easy have you ever fallen 4-7 feet at 35 mph no I didn’t think so
"so that's why we where protection, clothes, helmets..." sorry babe but falling off your bike isn't gonna get your head crushed in by a half ton animal. loved this video, us equestrians giggled and the bikers probably snorted😂😂
She went from being terrified of petting the horse to controlling it on her own in a segment. I went through at least a few lessons on a long line and remember being terrified when the instructor told me it was my time to ride free. It's different for everyone, we all have to learn at our own pace. That horse knew what was up, though. 🤣 Like no, you need to ask better for me to walk girl, we're a team. That's a good horse to learn on, they teach you more than one who just needs something like a cue.
My best friend was so scared to ride horse, one day I convinced her to have a little go on one of mine. fast she rode in a saddle 10 minutes at a walk, then she trotted a little bit, then I took away stirrups and made her close her eyes, I led her around for a bit. We took a little break and then I got her to jump on bareback. By the end of the day she could trot relatively well and even did a little bit of a canter. She started of nervous but gained confidence quickly. Her heels need heaps of work but her hands were ok. I've been teaching her now for half a year and she's improved heaps, I'm so proud of her 💚 This woman will get there if she wants to and determined
It's crazy how toxic the equestrian community can be. All of you saying " hEr ReInS" or "wHaT iS sHe DoInG?!" You were all beginners too!! It was her first time getting on a horse for God's sake. Just because you have more experience that doesn't mean you get to hate on other people for not knowing what to do.
This honestly just shows how much horse back riding is a sport and how hard it can be. Also it proves that the horse isn’t doing all the work, which I’ve heard from multiple people 😂
To anyone trying to drag the first time horse rider, a simple question: If she could do all that stuff right after a few hours of practice, what would all yall with years of training and practice have to feel proud and and skilled about?
'Never seen anyone do more than a walk their first lesson' Boi! My first lesson I trotted and the second I cantered! But she did amazing, consider she didn't feel comfortable and safe and obviously wasn't horse crazy😂👍👍👍
X.Alexandria.X exactly so know one should say “oh well I was trotting my first lesson and cantering my second” as if it’s easy you pry looked like a sack of potatoes bouncing on the poor pony’s back everybody does the first time so don’t judge this girl horseback riding is hard
X.Alexandria.X he might have never seen someone trot their horse the first time around because he is in a different caliber of riding where they most likely start people slow but right, and add in challenge slowly but surely based on the riders level of experience and confidence.
I love how different the learning curves are, for BMX it takes some time to learn to ride a bike and keep your balance, but as soon as you can do that you can mostly start improving. While when horse riding you can pick up the basics really fast, but I've been riding for 7 years now and I'm starting in the simplest competitions (dressage) bc I'm finally good enough. And it depends alot on the horse, if your horse is more difficult to ride, it might take you longer before you can start competitions than if you have an easy horse. And ofcourse you bond with your horse, and normally you don't really bond with the bike (I do both sports but mostly horseriding, and yes, I would be sad if my bike broke but you can just buy a new one.)
She did great!!! For those who are commenting on the reins, some people teach them to hold them like this---I don't, but some do. The problem is, a sport like riding takes so much time to develop because a horse is a living animal. A bike we have all been on, but not a horse. Well done for both of them!
Angis Horseworld same. I personally don’t believe in bits as well and I feel like since she didn’t have any experience, it made it worse. I don’t like jumping either. Horses Carry almost all the weight on there front end and I don’t think jumping over 5-6 foot jumps is good for their legs in the long run🙃

Trot? I gallopped the first time I was on a horse.. Then again, thats more comfortable than the trot.
Aye Aye
And is secure enough to admit she is scared while keeping an open mind and willingness to be coached and trained
"It's insane how much leg you need!" Spoken like a true equestrian 😂😂😂
TheLifeOfH LOL IKR😂 she barely used any😂😂
LOL YES
That is legit me riding any horse aside from mine 😂
Truth😂😂
@@aussieequines4904 thats legit me riding my horse 😂😭
To every salty equestrian who didn’t like how she was riding remember how long it took you to learn how to ride on a basic lesson horse, let alone an Olympic level jumper. It’s like beginners don’t exist at all to you people and everyone who gets on is expected to understand years of training at once jeez!
i was thinking the exact same thing and everyone in the comments were like 'uhm, no honey, that's not true' and I was like UGHhh seriously? Do people really expect her to know EVERYthINg about riding a horse all at once? Agree with you to 100%, jeez!
She did great for her first time, everybody is just salty bc she is already better then them lol
Glad someone else remembers being a beginner and being "bad" compared to how good they are now
i was kinda pissed at the guy, I mean telling a person how to hold reins properly takes 5 sec. :D
A pretty small human on a very big horse (who BTW was such a sweetheart) I think they both did really well and had a great time
guys stop judging the poor soul! she was afraid of the horse at the start, the sheer fact that she was willing to mount is good enough for me.
I love how they were both so supportive and understanding of each other; they weren't trying to out-compete one another and when they each showed signs of fear the other encouraged and assured then rather than belittled them. That's what good sportsmanship is.
Non horse riders always think that it's easy ( and there's no exercise) to ride a horse...until they actually ride...
yessssss
Lol so true!!
let’s be real though, equestrians work their butts off to make it SEEM ‘easy’. especially dressage riders. i think that’s so funny, we all get a little mad when non-horse people claim horse riding is easy but then we train for years and years to learn how to make it seem like you’re not doing anything when you’re riding your horse. i mean, watch a video of edward gal in a dressage competition with his horse totilas (rest in peace); that man doES NOT MOVE i aspire to ride like that one day
@@randomfabulouscommenter2749 you'd be surprised then.
So many non horse people think we just " sit there "
Guys stop hating on Elke she’s a beginner rider and she didn’t know what to do!
Yeah I agree
Yes I agree but the instructor could have taught better
Proof equestrianism is a sport and is hard
That.Crazy.Equestrian I was scared she was going to jump in one day .I didn’t want her to fall and hate horse from then on
Camryn Sheehan yeah. That would be bad for horse and rider
YES!
they really should have had him learning to ride a bike for the first time if they were to make it fair. or have her know at least a little about riding horses
kackerlacka l are you saying horse riding isn’t a sport? Are you saying it’s easy?
This was really nice! Just two people appreciating their sport and introducing it to each other in good spirits, very nice to watch.
It's Great how in all these videos the athletes have so much respect for each other's sports.
Barn witches everywhere lol give that poor girl a break, I had a great time watching thst vid :D
Nina R. Rick Gore much?
Nah, he'd be too worried about them being girls and the bits I think.. Barn witch is still a great word
Savannah R. Kerr That term "Barn Witch" has been around for at least 50 years. I don't like giving him credit for coming up with it lol Which he didn't but so many people think he has all this secret knowledge when in fact he just likes to talk a lot.
She’s doing a good job! I agree with you. I do both sports so I have sympathy for both 😂
WhenTheWindigoComes He is a better rider than you will ever be.
Why it doesen't matter if they can complain about that I can't about this, I have seen riders who gets everything easily in their first class, and others who ride even worse than the girl in the video, but with trainning now on day they ride waay better than you 🤷🏻♂️
Ah sorry... hope you don't get a buttpain 🤫
@@miguelhaghenbeck5671 Stop trying to be funny, it just makes you look even more stupid! It doesn't make sense since I said "You're so butthurt." 😂😂😂
Plus, I didn't say you couldn't complain. You've never seen me ride and probably never will so....
The way she held the reins was killing me
KingForAGreenDay Ikr😟😟
Whats wrong with it?
Well that’s her first time on a horse so I understand why her hands were like that
I mean .. it's her first time
my only thing is, why didn't he correct her
Shouldn't he at least told her how to hold her reins properly and keep her heels down bless her she has no control 😂😂
Dragon Girl lmao so true
She was not holding the reins improperly lmao....she was holding in them in a style called "driving reins" which is useful for new riders because it is impossible to balance/brace on your hands this way. (and yes i acknowledge she held her hands way too high)
Emily Croucher ohh I've never heard of that before but it sounds like a good idea. when I first learned to ride we just had to grab onto the front of the saddle for support until we got the balance to ride without accidentally pulling on the horses mouth.
yeah its a fantastic way to not pull on a horses mouth. next time you ride try it out! its a totally different feeling
Dragon Girl so true
As a riding instructor it drove me crazy that he happily had her riding round holding her reins upside down.
Jen Burton - some people use that hand position as a tool to teach the rider not to brace on their hands. It's called a driving rein because it's similar how you hold them for driving a carriage.
Jen Burton the thing which drove me crazy was the fakt that she only steard with the reins ...
For someone who hasn't ridden like her she did rather well.
I agree though some things needed to be changed as in my first lesson many years ago i was already trotting.
Jen Burton same, I'm not a riding instructor though
Lol yesss same
This series is very cool. Both athletes gave good efforts.

Abi George, here! honestly I don't see a comment from any BMX people!! 😆
The equestrians have arrived - oh wait no we're already here 😂👍🏻

I'm here. I also do bmx ing though
I am more equestrian by 999/1
Wassup girl? Typing this in my barn actually lol
Old days, rich people have cars, everyone else has a horse,
Now, most people have cars, rich people have horses
Sidthememekid not necessarily
Sidthememekid as an equestrian I can confirm that most of the time, equestrians are poor as all of the money is going on your horse for bills and farriers tack and things like that
@@juddjohnson-smith886 you have a choice to have a horse. You are rich before you spend your spare money on them. The fact you have money to have them says a lot and most people wouldn't be able to afford this. I work 6 hours a day to ride once a week in a hope it will be enough for me to pass bhs 1 exam and get into equine college...
Hannah Banana i don’t even own one yet and when I do to start off with I’m only loaning one so I’m not rich considering it’s taking years of saving
And the people who can afford multi million dollar horses, are usually not the ones who can ride them. The ones who can ride them usually could never afford them.
Whhhyyyyyyy did they continue to let her hold thise reins like that
tbh I hold my reins like that if I feel I get to strong in my hand.
If you drive a carriage that's how most people hold their reins. I've found I really like it!
Isabella Klostermann That's why we don't hold the reins like that. If your hand is too strong it hurts the horse.
Isabella Klostermann not sure how the judges would like that in the show ring.. :/
FlyingIntoTheStorm true true, plus you have to control an animal with your body 💁🏻
FlyingIntoTheStorm agreed. With such a large animal beneath you that is completely able to make its own decisions, you are never guaranteed safety.
Both are dangerous. With BMX you have 6 other people all competing for the same piece of track at 30mph.
30 minutes - we were doing it on our - not experienced - own)
So don't tell me it's no chance she would get to trotting because sure she would. Even to cantering - you don't need to learn anything to canter on horse as long as you're athletic, have a good feel for your own body (balancing and stuff) and as long as it's well mild mannered, self-balanced horse (not a cuckoo in recreational riding school)
I hope I will get back to riding soon, I miss it so much :<
Cheers :)
Turbulencje honey 😂 I’m not arguing with you about weather she could or couldn’t have trotted.
Horses and Horror 8 years too!
I love that you dont just upload every 4 years😁
Haha
“OMG those reins ugh” “her heels tho” “I trotted the first time I rode a horse!” “she looks so bad on the horse”
Thats her first time, she rides a bike, obviously she cant ride since its her first time. Let her be, dont be so sensitive for a beginner. She’s accostumed to riding a bike, not another living creature. Y’all are so sensitive 😑
Team horses!
HECK YEAH! 🐎
I just love how they both show equal respect for each other's sport even though they obviously love the ones they do themselves the most 🤗
None of them said they're sport is harder or better and they paid respect to the efforts that it takes to do BMX/ horse riding!
Sylla Atlas f
Why would you retire at 28 for equestrian competition? It's one of the few sports where age doesn't matter _that much_!
The prime age for equestrians is 32 why retire at 28
My hobbies are riding and rhytmic gymnastics
There is a dressage rider who rode in the Olympics when he turned 72, he started riding when he was 40. So there's still time 😊
I LOVED his attitude when teaching and learning !
What I see is two nice people carefully trying the other person's sport.
I love how beginners in horse riding are trying to move horse with the reins. I just love that.
Any other equestrians enjoy watching non horse people ride 😂 my friends think you say giddy up and they gallop off into the sunset HAH NOPE!! 😂😂
Lol how about gallop off into the field when horsie get hungry, then bucks u off
Best series on this channel, hands down. As funny and comedic certain episodes are, it really shows that there's always something to learn from fellow athletes in other sports. Each discipline is it's very contained world, with specific sets of skills and body requirements. But general principles of sports discipline do apply absolutely everywhere.
I like Olympic horse riding because it's the one sport where both women and men can compete against one another.
Ive been riding (not frequently bc i dont have a horse but still) a lot this year and im finally able to trot with some control. Just because you learn fast doesnt mean everyone else does. Also just think of how great this video is to show people who say "Riding a horse is easy, you dont even do anything"
So many snooty equestrians in the comments 😟
Sorry, how are we snooty?
Honey, we aren’t snooty.
I’m an equestrian and I can tell they are kinda being snooty saying “it’s not easy” “those reins were horrible” like calm down no one cares
Ikr totally agree
@@quinn9329 umm...I havent even said anything in the comments yet...that is in no way snooty. Their simply noticing things, she's a beginner and obviously she's not going to get everything right on the first try but everyone saying those things are just relating to eachother. And ya...it isn't easy, either you have a "push a button" horse or a huge ego to think it's easy (if your saying that, I don't know if that's what u mean but I'm still going to point it out)
He taught her how to turn the horse WITH HER LEGS WHAT A GIFT TO SOCIETY 👏👏👏👏👏

Grace Lui the horse she rode looks amazing and I'm honestly jealous lmao, I wanna ride a horse like that
Abby Grimit well obviously 💁🏻
Sofia Anastasia Aaltonen but do you know how to control his horse?
I love how she tried to get the horse moving by shaking the reins, because they always do that in cartoons or really bad reality shows so people think that is the right way😂she gave it a really good attempt! It is really hard to get control over such a big horse the first or second time you ride a horse, and I think she did really well!💞💞
I’m sorry, but don’t compare a horse to bike. A bike is a machine you *use*. A horse is a living animal that you bond and love❤️
Shania Blake I totally agree with you! Peace
Shania Blake the video is literally about comparing the sports... riding a bike is what she’s familiar with, so that’s what she compares it with. She is not saying the horse is a machine.
Shania Blake u are so right!!!
Kaylee Larson no. The video is about seeing if both athletes can do each others sports. That’s why it’s a SWAP. Not a compare video.
Karina Peters doesn’t make it right to compare the horse to a bike later on in the video.
Daniel is honestly so sweet i love him
Trainer: "what's 2 + 2?"
Me: "um more leg?"
Trainer: "Yes, now why aren't you using more leg?"
I believe she did very good for her time as newbies are actually terrified on touching or even getting on top on the horse. I'm also glad that she tried to see a connection between riding a bike and a horse with the idea that it involves more leg than hands. It's definitely difficult for first timers but it takes a lot of practice.
This just confirms that horseback riding is one of the most difficult and demanding sports ever
Giving the BMX Girl credit where it's due: That's not a beginner's horse, most likely one of the "quieter" horses in the barn she can use. I've never seen a beginner's horse ignore the simplest commands, despite the loose reins, and wander off like: "Eh... No."
Nobody:
Horse riders: HONEY u DoN't Know HOW harD our SpOrt IS BMX is EaSSy.
These two sports are the perfect match for each other because people think they're both easy.
8:51 I call that a date 😂😂
This goes to show how difficult of a sport riding actually is. For the first time he tried BMX he was able to work with little amount of time and actually get better. With the same given amount of time she could still only walk with the horse. Also can we just appreciate that both men and women compete together. Love this sport.
Kimberly Gonzalez It probably wasn’t his first time trying to ride a bike
He has ridden a bike before, so ignorant smh
Getting an unfamiliar horse to trust you and work with you is really tough, I think she did great
obviously, you don't have to go around calling names. I'm just saying it is way harder to work with an animal than with an object. Also, I've given lessons to people who have never been on a horse and they trot their first lesson. Most riding lessons go like that.
for sure, I'm not saying she didn't do good, there is just a huge difference in the level of difficulty for the sport.
I think switching from BMX to horses/jumping was a lot harder
I agree, while both sports are hard the majority of the population know how to ride a bike so they have some foundation even if its minor where most dont know how to ride a horse. It's a big jump and her feeling comfortable enough to go on her own was a very big difference compared to her nervous to even mount!!
@@foxxybreyerkatnisshorsepro1336 Everybody love to bike but they don't hurt poor animals with sports like this.
From the comments in this video one can tell how the equestrian community is. In other videos you never see people who practice the sport comment by judging everything the other person does. I can tell there’s some insane competition in the equestrian world!
It's mostly jealous teenage girls who judge other riders. I wish it were different, but ig you cant change their minds 😕
the horse is like fml
Equestrian Daisy lol yes
Hahaha. I can only imagine what that horse is thinking because it's so used to Olympic level riders. Maybe it thought that walking only was a nice break. The mare I ride thinks the lesson should be over after walking a few minutes. LOL.

I appreciated it when he explained that because most non-equestrians would say that "The horse was being mean!"

i love how he said "none of them are strong on the horse" while talking about bits. Im not saying bits are bad, but some were really just made to control the horse with pain.

Lovely to see nobody hating against each others sport! It’s lovely!!❤️❤️
" It's amazing how he can control his horse with the reigns" 😂 those are only for giving directions on where to go! It's your leg
Hey, better than what I did the first time I got on a horse! And that was with a twenty year old lesson horse, not an Olympic jumper. Good job Elke!
That horse was a saint

Caroline Rose she’s ok she’s a beginner
She is just a beginner when i was a beginner i almost put my whole feet in the stirrups and it helped and look at me now im jumping 60cm and i can canter in 1 whole year!😊
Having your heel down isn't really all that important as long as your leg and foot is steady and not your foot isn't slipping through the stirrup. In dressage you hardly EVER see riders with their heels down. This girl was doing flatwork at the WALK, she wan't doing a 3'3 hunter eq course. She's fine.
i mean she’s doing fine for her first time on a horse .. i don’t know why you feel is necessary to start criticizing a beginner
I do barrel racing (western horse riding) and I love it. I have 4 horses and I couldn’t live life without them!❤️
He didn't even teach the girl correctly on how to hold the reins. That is the most important first lesson to learn once you have mounted.
She will probably never get on a horse again so does it truly matter?
Her hands were everywhere! But she did good! She had her back straight and spoke to the horse, but that's dismount killed me haha
Like before you say equestrian is easy have you ever fallen 4-7 feet at 35 mph no I didn’t think so
As much a sport as archery or car racing.
Ella Novak legit no one cares
This was so good! I've been (horse) riding for 7 years and that girl who just got on that horse has a better kit than I've ever had ahahaha!
"so that's why we where protection, clothes, helmets..." sorry babe but falling off your bike isn't gonna get your head crushed in by a half ton animal. loved this video, us equestrians giggled and the bikers probably snorted😂😂
Falling off a jump while you're in the air and getting your bike to land on your head is _probably_ dangerous as well.
*I hear Daniel talking*
Me: Wait... What?
My brain: It's not Daniel, that's Rami Malek with a mask.
Father r a m i
For a first time rider, she did a very good job! And he took to the bike very naturally. Well done on both sides!
Omg I wonder how annoyed that like fancy high end horse was with the bmx biker 😂
I've been teaching her now for half a year and she's improved heaps, I'm so proud of her 💚
This woman will get there if she wants to and determined
It's crazy how toxic the equestrian community can be. All of you saying " hEr ReInS" or "wHaT iS sHe DoInG?!" You were all beginners too!! It was her first time getting on a horse for God's sake. Just because you have more experience that doesn't mean you get to hate on other people for not knowing what to do.
This honestly just shows how much horse back riding is a sport and how hard it can be. Also it proves that the horse isn’t doing all the work, which I’ve heard from multiple people 😂
I'm an equestrian and i really wish I could ride every single one of the horses in that barn😂😂
SAME! They're gorgeous.
"Is he scared of me?"
"No they always move"
She is a biker, not an Equestrian so stop commenting about how she did things wrong.
We all have to remember that this is one day of riding not a lifetime of practice
when your riding a 100 000$ plus horse and cant make it walk lol
To anyone trying to drag the first time horse rider, a simple question: If she could do all that stuff right after a few hours of practice, what would all yall with years of training and practice have to feel proud and and skilled about?
'Never seen anyone do more than a walk their first lesson'
Boi! My first lesson I trotted and the second I cantered!
But she did amazing, consider she didn't feel comfortable and safe and obviously wasn't horse crazy😂👍👍👍
Lee same I did a entire course in a show of 30cm after only two lessons
I guess horses is something in your blood
Probably not well
X.Alexandria.X exactly so know one should say “oh well I was trotting my first lesson and cantering my second” as if it’s easy you pry looked like a sack of potatoes bouncing on the poor pony’s back everybody does the first time so don’t judge this girl horseback riding is hard
Lee In my first lessen i galloped auf my horse bucked haha
And ofcourse you bond with your horse, and normally you don't really bond with the bike (I do both sports but mostly horseriding, and yes, I would be sad if my bike broke but you can just buy a new one.)
im internally screaming why is she holding her reins upside down
Lia s.s. Same
She did great!!! For those who are commenting on the reins, some people teach them to hold them like this---I don't, but some do. The problem is, a sport like riding takes so much time to develop because a horse is a living animal. A bike we have all been on, but not a horse. Well done for both of them!
Im sorry but i feel bad for the Horse xD
I totally agree :)
Angi & Haku why? She wasn't hurting him or anything? The horse was just walking around, they weren't even giving him a workout.
Drama queens😂
Why? She was doing nothing to it
Angis Horseworld same. I personally don’t believe in bits as well and I feel like since she didn’t have any experience, it made it worse. I don’t like jumping either. Horses Carry almost all the weight on there front end and I don’t think jumping over 5-6 foot jumps is good for their legs in the long run🙃
I love it that its her first time riding and shes in a beautiful amazing horse in some beautiful amazing stables
