I just received my bomber from the flash sale about 2 hours before I watched this video. I saw some videos ahead of time and had a couple of upgrades waiting. I drove it for about 2-3 minutes and was pretty upset at how bad it performed out of the box. Took about 10 minutes to install a hot racing rear sway bar and another 10 minutes for some SSD steering links. Screwed the preload on the front shocks all the way up and the rears about halfway, making it lower and took it back out on 3s. Now she’s fun as all get out. HUGE transformation with just those small mods. Tomorrow installs the front sway bar, the 2800kv axe and the incision suspension links. Then she should be a screamer
I'm on my 4th bomber. And run 4600kv sidewinder on all 4. The gears in the transmission are metal. Get a high end servo and a treal servo saver, incision links, vanquish trailing arms, and axial sway bar and call it done
Also just picked one up on the Flash Sale deal. Already have a new servo, Axial sway bar, links and trailing arms, as well as a few other things... but, I just realized that with the solid links I should probably pick up a servo saver as well. Is there a specific one from Treal that I need, or are they all the same as long as I get a 25T to match my new servo? Thanks
If you are going with a 25T servo, this servo saver will work well. amzn.to/3MgGmvo Since I will use mine mostly for crawling, I will not use a servo saver.
@@RoadsideRC Yeah, that's why I didn't order one earlier... I ordered a solid servo horn instead. In all likelihood, it may not be needed for my application. Then again, I'm not sure what all I may do with this truck yet, and with those solid steering links... I'll give it some thought. Thanks for the link.
I have also seen under drive gears installed in the rear to help resolve the torque twist, but I think the sway bar is better at it. Love this truck. Pondering adding to my herd...
Been watching a bunch of your videos lately, and really enjoy them. Keep up the great work! And now this video just made me subscribe. I also picked up one of these on the Horizon Flash Sale deal, so I'm looking forward to this series to see what you do with yours. I already have a new servo, the Incision SS links, the Vanquish trailing arms, new aluminum bead locks, Axial sway bar, universal front axles, and a few other things. Also have a 1080 to try just for the programable options it gives. Not ready to take the deep dive to go brushless as I don't see it being needed for my application, but I may consider a motor upgrade at some point. Gotta play with it more and see how she runs... Looking forward to your developments!
Waiting to see what's next for your bomber. I just put a shiny new Traxxas Titan 12t in mine. A little 🔥 on 3s at the end of 2200mah. Maybe a heat sink. Or brushless maybe but then drive shafts, darn it. I'm still on the original stock plastic ones.
Those plastic Axial driveshafts are about the strongest part of the driveline - don't worry. No need to spend big $$$ on metal ones, just keep a few spares handy.
Like I said . Definitely needs a Sway Bar or something. Now I added extra shocks on the back of mine. THAT helped a lot. Someone will be pretty happy to get this. THAT is for sure. Have a great weekeknd Troy/... :)
Nice to do a giveaway! I saw this flash sale but it looks so much like my Ryft. After seeing this video the Ryft looks like it’s built better and the Ryft has been a money pit of upgrades! 😂😂
I think you should do a trial of before and after a sway bar. I do not think it should be assumed that it will make it handle better for the targeted terrain. I just got back from running a bomber in the woods without a sway bar end it handled pretty well compared to my other bombers with sway bars. Not at all sure that it wasn’t in fact better without.
I tend to agree. They do have a lot of torque twist, but then again, this isn't a speed basher sort of thing... It does fine as a trail rig, IMO, and the twist becomes more of an issue for me on level ground, heavy throttle applications, and fast sharp turns. Otherwise, for slower speeds, and general trail running/crawling, it seems fine as is. Just depends on application and terrain. Just got one on the Flash Sale deal as well, and have the Incision links, Vanquish arms, new servo, aluminum wheels, the Axial sway bar, and a few other goodies. Plan to install it all this week, and will try it with and without the sway bar to see which I prefer for how I'll be using this rig most...
From my research, reducing torque twist can be done in multiple ways, maybe mixing more than one should help more. Reversing rotation of rear shaft, adding second rear shocks, swapping to underdrive gears on both axles, and of course sway bar. Could be great if a sway bar would not be needed. Also link geometry affects torque twist. What I've done so far is adding sway bars, hobbywing axe system, incision links (which have garbage rod ends), beef tubes, and already need to replace the skid plate. I want to make mine as rock bouncer/crawler. Anyways, that giveaway would be amazing :D
Vanquish rear axles and trailing arms, SS links, Axial rear sway bar, HR Ryft servo saver and spt 35kg, ssd wheels and knuckles, and just repaired the front axle w/ Axial universals. Oh yeah, I also swapped the motor with 540 wltoys a959, and rip up it on 3s. I expected to burn it up, and it does get hot. But it still runs strong. Fun for sure!
Unfortunately, no. I don't have a Wraith anymore. I did have one for a long time. Initial estimate - they feel very similar. The Wraith is more stable due to overall size. Once I have this truck modified, I feel it will be a slightly better crawler than the Wraith - but it is close. Honestly - pick the one you think looks the best.
I’m pumped to see you are going to give this away. I’d love to add this to my fleet! Looks quite controlled at low speed. Can the front shocks be placed at a different angle with an upper mount farther back? Excited to see what you do with this!
@@RoadsideRC it really depends on what direction you go mine is setup to crawl with. Low turn motor 2.2” beadlock wheels with pit bull tires. I ran the anti sway bar kit to help with frame twist but it hurt it when crawling. Worked great for bouncer
What’s going on, I just subscribed to your channel I can’t wait to see more videos of drift cars and crawlers. I sure like to be the one to win this bad boy. I’ll see the rest of your videos when I’m off work.

Can anyone tell me what servo they run in this after the stock Spektrum servo craps out? I've ran a Hexfly 25k broke almost immediately, I've put 2 1254 Savox, both broke within 10 minutes and an EcoPower also broke quickly. I'm not bashing it, literally just running it in my driveway with some minor rollovers.
You need a servo saver. If you are crawling only, you can get away without one. But, driving around on your driveway is "bashing", and those rollovers still put stresses on the servo. One like this: amzn.to/3sBY9FR

I think it’s a very generous giveaway Troy. These are great fun rides plagued by huge amounts of torque steer to blip over those rocks, bumps and stumps. On flat ground however it’s too much! I don’t have this truck, but I do have Redcat Wendigo which has the same issue on flat ground. Constantly putting it back on its wheels. On stumps bumps and abnormal jumps it’s a beast! Both of these trucks Definitely need beefier stabilizer bars! Like I said, what a great giveaway Troy thank you!😊💥👊🏼🔥🔥🔥
I am super excited to see how you defeat the torque twist. It’s pretty bad. I have seen some crawlers use a transfer case that changes the direction of rotation on one of the drive shafts to mitigate the issue. Not sure if that would apply well to a rock racer. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Nice! I wonder if you can widen it, so it doesn't tip over! I'm excited.
Getting it lower will be a first priority, then we will see if wider is needed.
Sway bars should also help.

You want that to flex in the drag link and tie rod because if you don't the next weakest link is your knuckles and then you'll break a knuckle.
