One of the most insightful interviews on the revolution and how it affected people! What this shows is the dichotomy in Ghanaian society at the time.. those insanely rich and living very well (no doubt having made their own wealth mostly) and ordinary poor who supported the likes of Rawlings. It is the same today: many follow socialist doctrines and have a thing against the rich and entrepreneurs and resentfully want to take their wealth away. There is s much suffering and pain coming out in this interview. Georgette in a way falls into the trap of those she condemns : assuming that because someone started out poor they can never upgrade their status in life. I’m sure Mrs Rawlings is a very enterprising woman and would know how to make some money too off her own projects to put her children in good schools but then again I can’t say she wasn’t corrupt. We all heard the stories but …. Anyways Georgette went through so much I cannot lecture her and other victims of these upheavals and the injustice and violence that was meted out. I hope she found peace and healing in the Lord before she passed

This has been a long interview spanning a life time for some of us. The point about Georgette’s father and the apparent rebuke from the then government may seem justified in the face of the general poverty that pervaded the country. When a government puts out an announcement about anyone in those days on corruption; people bought into it and that has been the saga of the late Mr Henry Djaba. There has apparently been no hearing on the part of Mr Djaba on how he applied himself at his business. That is an unfortunate aspect of the narrative of this case. It is also regrettable, that up to this time nothing has been shown to uphold the rights of Mr Djaba and his family, about investments and the freezing of assets. The time and place is now, under a civilian government. With due respect, Georgette has the platform to exercise her rights on these matters. Does she intend to pursue these matters now or has she squandered the opportunity? It was a useful piece of advice not to pursue adverse TV or Radio interviews about the “murderer”, because of the unequal instruments in pursuit of either objective. To want to bring/interrogate a charge of “murderer”against a man who enjoyed large following in Ghana was certainly not advisable. Yet the best formative years were fostered by the anguish of having to do menial jobs to go through law studies. It took the sense of entitlement away but has prepared you today to prepare a new bundle for a case to retrieve what rightly belongs to your family. This is a better option, to proving corruption of the political class in Ghana or around the world. The handwriting on corruption is amply visible for all to see in Ghana today. Forgiveness is a gift within your bosom to bestow on anyone, even those you may not consider as deserving of such a virtue.
I like Andy's videos very much 'cos of perspectives of Ghanaian history that would have difficult to come by even when the 'culture of silence' Prof. Adu Boahen spoke about in 1988 is a thing of the past.

I remenber those days. .I was 10 years and living in Darkuman .It was very Bad moment. My dad left us and go to Abidjan in order to rescue his family. We were suffering when few fellow ghanians were living well. They were nothing in the country . That means social injustice allways trigger violence. When the people of France were starving they did french revolution and they guillotine the King.Robespierre and co did their's clean up exercice. I can Aldo remenber those days people in m'y area jubilating after the execution of the genrals and me as a young boy i was very sad. I couldn't understand those type of brtality between ghanians. I left Ghana in 1982 for Abidjan . I think honnestly although this madam was at the good side of the table at that time and we were mostly at the bad side we must consider her scars and must also bé honest and recognise that they were few enjoying at that time. But for me the question is "has the so called revolution achieve it goals? " I Say no because last years in Accra and visited Darkuman i was shocked by what i Saw there. The situation of the people there is simply worst. Please go to those areas and you Will see thé hell in live .There is nothing no public comodities no roads no water service .It is a ghetto . 40 years after when i compare i had a sad feeling that it was better before in those areas. How Can the politicans let people living in those conditions ? This why i think if nothing is done Ghana Can face again this type of horrible situation . To prevent this the NPP and NDC must change radically their gouvernance.. Comming back to Mrs Djagba bitterness i honnestly think Rawlings should have apologised to all those people who lost familly members during his revolution and the madame must also bé humble because she Said she did ungratefull
She did ungratefull jobs to Pay her School in England. I want to say welcome in the real life of the majority . We all did it and we are not complainning for that.

The lady was very clear. The father got a contract of about 1million pound during Kwame Nkurumah. Rich from the start. Therefore, he could afford the 10 thousand for each child. Investments!
The all powerful almighty God who spoke and things happened didn't need six days to finish creation,he could finish creation one day or even a second but just as in his usual humility came to earth and was brutally crucified on the cross, systematically finished creation in six days. Why six days?Maybe God is speaking to mankind to finish one major project at a time if we really want to do a great job. Had Nkrumah embraced democratic governance from the get go,ghana would not have had rawlings brutal rule to provide some few areas with infrastructures. The corruption he promised to uproot from the onset of his rule is still persisting unabated.

@@martinakiss677 I am not a supporter of the death penalty under any circumstances. Felli was not killed bcos of the money in his bank. Kindly read the tribunal reports of 1979. They were killed primarily because of their involvement in coup d'états. The AFRC knew that, they could be killed & equally executed should they allow people like Gen.Afrifa & Co walking free. Gen. Afrifa was a feared & revered general who was involved in the overthrow of Nkrumah, Busia & Acheampong. He was the Don!!! Remember the state of mind of JJ during that period. JJ knew that, its either he gets rid of them or they get rid of him @ a later date. This is someone who was to be executed on June 4, 1979. This is why it is extremely very dangerous for civilians & military to (support/plan/finance/co-sponsor coup d'états), because if u don't succeed, EXECUTION, TORTURE OR HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES are meted out. That was the military decree & military law. You have to put into account the era. JJ was to be executed on the morning of June 4, 1979 on the orders of SMC 1 & SMC 2 that was supported by some business tycoons during that era. Gen Akuffo, SMC1 & SMC 2 prepared a MEDICINE for JJ Rawlings to be taken, but JJ got lucky and decided to give back the MEDICINE to them so that, they could taste their own medicine. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. How can you sow the seeds of tomatoes & expect to harvest cassava? Rather than bashing JJ all the time, lets bash all coup plotters and coup leaders since Ghana gained independence in 1957 PERIOD!!! Felli and co came to office not thru democratic rule, so was JJ and both of them knew that, EXECUTION is a possibility for failed coups or coup attempts. It is the reason why we should not support any coup!!!!
Ghana needs to avoid future coups at all cost - The history of Coups are the same across the globe. Coups ALWAYS cause havoc anywhere and hardly helps anyone. And Ghana does not need any more reconciliation committees - please, use the money to furnish and equip schools instead. I only hope for a Monument for the Innocent civilians who sacrificed their lives as a result of such events; to remind us of the dangers of such tragedies. Please note that coups makers always do clean up jobs by killing anyone who makes them nervous. It is the most definite action after a successful coup. Ask Mobutu Seseseko of Congo or Idi Amin of Uganda or Saddam Hussein of Irag or Stalin of Russia - just to name a few! And if you want to know who is responsible for serious, sensitive and security decisions in any coup, it is ALWAYS made by the most senior person/persons in charge of SECURITY (Head of Security).
You shouldn't advise NDC party on anything if you against RAWLINGS. Rawlings was NDC and NDC was and still is Rawlings. We should work hard to get Ghana rid itself of Rawlings Ghana. We still live in Rawlings Ghana. Please forgive the Excellency Nana Akufo-addo what ever he had done to you. You can fight Rawlings the man or his legacy and still support or advocate for the NDC party. The two doesn't mix. I wished we could bury NDC party with Rawlings so that Ghana and its people could have the peace they deserved.
The cross examination of rawlings's position in ghanaian history is divided into three with three diffrent types of people. The young, the illitrates and those with political ambitions . The young ones today are unwilling to learn their history. Unfortunatly for them they met people like rawlings who spoke as if he was an angel. The man who use to speak like a true man of dignity who can't harm a fly .They became acquinted with rawlings who spoke of probity and accountability which he himself didn't understand what he was saying because he never Applied them. Was the PNDC truly investigated ? , not to my knowledge. Was his members and collegues investigated ? i don't think so . Did rawlings submited himself for investigation ? , i believe no . Did rawlings ever stand trial ? , the answer is no . Did rawlings ever suggested that to clear himself of all allegations he will submit himself for total assessment concerning his 19 years as a leader ? , Its a big NO Rather he did and was an intelligent person by securing the heaven. We call this ( indemnite clause) That almighty reason that makes him the best leader indeed . Then we have the illitrates who will always shout yes yes yes by nodding and kept the bells ringing. They knew rawlings, they saw and lived a bitter experience but , they simply refuse to analyse the situation. They are not capable of doing the socio-cultural impact in the future. The political impact of those days The economic slow down or at complete halt till today. The seeds of curruption that was sowed by that man and his people . If you kill the generals because they were currupt but their children were educated in ghana ; whereas rawlings's kids were educated in expensive schools abroad. So what is wrong with us ? God save us These illitrates would say that is normal. This is because they are not capable of doing the additions and subsiquently subtractions . These are the people who must apply that rule of society for the young ones today. The third point addreses the politiciens, exucatives , well educated people like us . In this category , because of political ambitions or promotions and feeding on népotisme, if the color is yellow, they will say no it was green . This is effective and they always go unpunished why because the people in the middle are illitrates thus , simply, politicaly can't relay good analysis to the streets, and the young ones . That young one Who doesn't know his history and makes no effort to learn ; lead by illitrates who are managed by currupt elits = ghana.

@@jameshanson5561 On 15 May, 1979: Rawlings and six other soldiers staged a coup against the government of General Fred Akuffo, but failed and were arrested by the military. Rawlings was publicly sentenced to death in a General Court Martial by firing squad slated for 4 June 1979, although his statements on the social injustices that motivated his actions won him civilian sympathy. While awaiting execution, Rawlings was sprung from custody on 4 June 1979 by a group of soldiers. Claiming that the government was corrupt beyond redemption and that new leadership was required for Ghana's development, he led the group in a coup to oust the Akuffo Government and Supreme Military Council. Shortly afterwards, Rawlings established and became the Chairman of a 15-member Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC), primarily composed of junior officers. He and the AFRC ruled for 112 days and arranged the execution by firing squad of eight military officers, including Generals Kotei, Joy Amedume, Roger Felli, and Utuka, as well as the three former Ghanaian heads of state; Acheampong, Akuffo, and Akwasi Afrifa.

First time listening to this interview and hearing her name, only to realize she has passed on😢😢😢.

I like this woman. Good job Andy👍
Thank you. I beg to differ. God bless you xx

We were suffering when few fellow ghanians were living well. They were nothing in the country . That means social injustice allways trigger violence. When the people of France were starving they did french revolution and they guillotine the King.Robespierre and co did their's clean up exercice.

It was Gbedema who took Rawlings to Achimota.
This lady should first tell us how his father was able to afford the 10,000 pounds a year school fees for each child.
Oh just read that she has passed 🤦
The cross examination of rawlings's position in ghanaian history is divided into three with three diffrent types of people. The young, the illitrates and those with political ambitions .
The young ones today are unwilling to learn their history. Unfortunatly for them they met people like rawlings who
spoke as if he was an angel.
Did rawlings ever suggested that to clear himself of all allegations he will submit himself for total assessment concerning his 19 years as a leader ? , Its a big NO
Rather he did and was an intelligent person by securing the heaven. We call this ( indemnite clause)
That almighty reason that makes him the best leader indeed .
Then we have the illitrates who will always shout yes yes yes by nodding and kept the bells ringing. They knew rawlings, they saw and lived a bitter experience but , they simply refuse to analyse the situation. They are not capable of doing the socio-cultural impact in the future. The political impact of those days
The economic slow down or at complete halt till today. The seeds of curruption that was sowed by that man and his people . If you kill the generals because they were currupt but their children were educated in ghana ; whereas rawlings's kids were educated in expensive schools abroad. So what is wrong with us ? God save us
These illitrates would say that is normal.

@@Charlestve ANDY D may well be a great guy, but if he puts himself in the chair as a host, he must refrain from bias political journalism. Andy D hates JJ so much. His mission is a well paid job to continue demonizing JJ. Have u ever head Andy D say two good things about JJ ever? When some of his guests on the show do not demonize JJ, look at the looks on his face, he then comes up with misleading questions just to get his guest to speak evil of JJ. It is obvious that he is sick and suffering from JJ,s addiction. When will he make a program about every coup leader in the history of Ghana and talk about their evil & good deeds as well. ANDY can keep bashing JJ, we dont give a 4ck. Let Andy read the tributes to JJ coming from the queen, uk, eu, us, obama, un, au, who, and thousands of major global organizations. JJ was no saint, but remember that, JJ was a condemned man awaiting execution by firing squad slated for June 4, 1979 on the orders of Gen.Akuffo, SMC1/SMC2 & supported by Afrifa & other businessmen. "Rawlings was a very lucky man & highly tactical". All Rawlings did was to give back the MEDICINE that Gen.Akuffo & co had prepared for him so that, they could have a taste of their own MEDICINE. That was "normal" under military regimes in reference to their military decrees. I rest my case
@Mariam, tell him again. He is a piece of **** and a J J hater to the core. Let him go and interview Papa J @ the military cemetery. Ya bre mo, abaaa!!!
Fantastic 😍💋 💝💖♥️❤️
Will anyone come out and defend junior jesus called rawlings please because dead people don't talk.
She is entirely untruthful with the facts. Her father shdnt have supported/financed some of these coups knowing very well the possible outcome of a failed coup. Businessmen who are found to be sponsors of coups are clearly a target. In a nutshell, coups are unhelpful under all circumstances. Henry Djaba had kids under the age of 10, were his children's lives more important to him than the sponsorship of coups to acquire more wealth knowing very well the HIGH RISK involving in this game???. This is the question Georgette should be asking? Was it worth it? If a business man chooses to put his family through this ordeal, then there are more questions than answers. If you are critical thinker, kindly do us a favor. Return all the stolen money your dad illegally stole from Ghana bk to Ghana. Your dad was no saint, you are nothing but a spoilt woman. You better thank God for the wealthy lifestyle you had as a child from the corrupt proceeds of your dad who was a known criminal and a sponsor of coups. Give us a 4ckn breaking. Your dad at the age of 27 had mansions in London from all the "dirty money" after supporting and sponsoring coups in Ghana. Your dad had an illegal bank in his house. He stored huge and huge sums of money in his houses to avoid paying taxes. Go and read the tributes from the queen, EU, UK, Obama, UN and other major organizations on the passing away of JJ. What tributes did your dad receive? You are so lucky to be interviewed by Andy D who himself is #1 hater of JJ Rawlings.
@@desbrown9673 why don't you talk about rawlings your hero ?
I just can't believe you are behind all these. You are always saying the same thing. Stop cutting and pasting. Do you write them from your memory or you copie them somewhere ? You are not Smart..
@@jameshanson5561 bcos she is equally saying the same thing.
