      I can understand both sides of the isle on this. Ultimately It comes down to the fighter that's on top. Like Henry said, in that position there is plenty of room to do damage to the body plus you can try to take his back. But I also think it's hella annoying. It looks bad and should not be a tactic in a fighting sport. You're extremely exposed and that goes directly into the refs very first warning.

    You need the dog to come out again.
    Being too technical can cause you to hesitate.
    Go in there with the mindset to finish everyone. If they press, you bite down and throw. Shoot if it's open but then right away ground & pound.
    Also, add some BJJ to your ground game so there's more of a threat when on the ground.
    You can be Champ again.

    @Sotamursu90 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    At the start of this video I thought maybe Cejudo has finally gotten over this loss, but he still isn't honest with himself about this fight and still thinking he beat Aljo. Even the clips from the fight are edited not to show a lot of striking, which was where Cejudo lost to Aljo the most.
    For example in round 3 Aljo landed (26 of 29) sig. strikes vs Cejudo's (5 of 29). Control time was 1:30 for Aljo and 1:43 for Cejudo. So looking at the stats for round 3 Aljo landed 11 more sig. strikes and Cejudo had 13 seconds more control time. Both had 1 takedown. Same thing with round 1. Aljo lands 20 sig.strikes to Cejudo's 7. Aljo had 2 takedowns and Cejudo 1. Overall looking at UFC stats Aljo significantly beat Cejudo in all areas except control time. Cejudo was also showing more damage on his face.
    Judging was definitely weird, but it went weird both ways. Cleary gave round 5 to Aljo, but all judges gave R3 to Cejudo which could have easily been give to Aljo. I think Aljo took round 1,3 and 4 and was more active during the fight. Active striking really is a deal breaker in close fights like these.
    I hope Cejudo gets over this loss and improves enough to get the title back, it was awesome to follow his career to this point wondering how much can he still add to his legacy.

  • @firstname7769
    @firstname7769 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Bro your game plan was flawed. You should have stayed on top of Aljo when he was stalling on his knees. Even if you don’t do a lot of damage, you control him and win the round by points. You let him up a few times where I think you could have instead won those rounds by staying on top of him.

Also, Aljo was comfortable with you grabbing his head as a wrestler, practice some subs. I though that they would have worked on that. I also watched the fight online with Firas Zahabi (GSP coach) and he called before this fight that he was worried about Henry not attempting submission. This fear was due to Henry's MMA stats (no win by submission).

    The ufc judges are the worst on the planet. I would never trust them, although they may've been right in this one. Still, they tend to take away the integrity of the sport. It often sucks to be a fan nowdays.

  • @finale3159

    You gotta let the hands go more, there was certain positions where you were just looking at him in the grappling exchanges and you coulda done some damage to look good to the judges.

    Fights need to be less about “scoring” and more about damage and control. A takedown alone shouldn’t count as you scoring….you need to do something with that take down. If you land 2 or 3 pitter patter shots, then proceed to get hit with a big overhand….that overhand should count more.

    I agree with everything that was said. It really missed the ground and pound style like Khabib or Jon Jones, particularly the knees to the body. I'm not sure if it was possible to get a more side control position from north-south, to try to gain a better position and inflict more damage, especially when he was in half guard. We can't lose those opportunities. But yes, it truly was a competitive fight. We saw standing fighting, clinching, takedowns - it was a real MMA fight.

  • @toastersman217
    @toastersman217 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are knees to ribs illegal now? I remember GSP doing it on Serra to win a rematch. I though that Henry would have done it on Sterling when he was doing the turtle.

  • @uzumakidk2333
    @uzumakidk2333 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It was a great and competitive fight 👏 but I feel like you need to revisit the scoring criteria too. You mention you're winning a round based of a takedown and control which is very low on the scoring list, and only used if the damage is exactly equal. Damage is all. In the 3rd round you mention your takedown (which was nice) and his control against the cage when that knee Aljo landed was the one that scored heaviest. So absolutely incorporate more ground and pound to really score with your takedowns 💪 Good luck in the next 🏅🏆🏆

    • @forzacavaliere
      @forzacavaliere ปีที่แล้ว +1

      " takedown and control which is very low on the scoring list, and only used if the damage is exactly equal. Damage is all." Judges for Moreno vs Pantoja showed us that that's not the case. Moreno was definitely the one who did most of the damage for most of the rounds, yet they gave the bout to Pantoja because he had way more control time.

    • @uzumakidk2333
      @uzumakidk2333 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@forzacavaliere I didn't watch that fight unfortunately so can't really comment on it but perhaps he did effective grappling like try to get to better/dangerous positions e.g. taking the back and at least threat with subbs? I do remember the scorecards were all over the place so judges are also confused lol.

    • @Numba1Gorilla
      @Numba1Gorilla ปีที่แล้ว

      @forzacavaliere You're comparing one fight to one other fight and saying these judges got it wrong. You're showing bias. The rule book says damage > anything else. If anything the judges for Pantoja vs Moreno got it wrong.

    You don't have a submission game. Yeah you have wrestling, but even in that, you don't have absolute dominant top control and GNP.
    Same with Usman, doesn't have a submission game.
    Yeah you have done well even without that dimension of the sport and skillset, but it's only going to add to you being a bigger threat
