Only 437 views! We're a dying breed lads! Lovely crack off those A class, they were as rough as a badgers backside to ride in but they had that unexplainable character.

the tags for the upload are a bit limited for the youtube algorithm. It needs tags like, Irish Rail, RSPI, Diesel Electric Locomotive, South west corridor, Ireland, Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford, Retro, Trains, Irish Trains, Train Journeys, Metrovick, Vickers, Córas Iompair Éireann, CIE, etc etc etc

Great video Gerry , A39 was the last one I worked and it's great it's still going. The mk 2s could be problematic with sticking brakes with different Locos so I would if possible get all the realease cords pulled when the loco is hooked up.

Thanks Tom glad you enjoyed. Pull the cord was the correct thing to do.

Thanks again Gerry. A grand locomotive. That one'll have the GM V12 in it there? Cheers now!

Fantastic video. It was a great day. Great memories. We need another decent tour with photo stops, Proper traction, and forget all the H & S crap for just one day.

There were 60 A class and 34 C class. The biggest single order in 1954.

The Dublin - Rosslare is, in my humble opinion, the most beautiful line in Ireland. I was lucky enough to do the line with A Class 001 MetroVicks in scheduled service. I would love a cabride on an Irish loco; but I only managed to secure cabrides in Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Hungary, Austria and Canada !
Gerry, this was not the last 001 Class Locomotive in service. But that would be telling !

Martin Bitter . Your dream will come true. Loco134 is being restored to full working order in Inchicore Work Dublin. Receiving body attention at the moment may take time but it will be running on irish rail network again.

+Martin Bitter I'm from America and that's exactly what I did when I went to Ireland! Was listening to an EMD powered passenger train and closed my eyes and it felt like back home in California!

Hi adjn1973. Yes only 1 A class or 001 is preserved in working order. All the C class or 201 class were scrapped

Gerry Conmy Correct me here. I recall A27 & A38 being the only 2 of the 60 that had chrome handrails as these were the 2 engines that pulled Devs Presidential carriage. ???? Also these were rated at 1,325 hp instead of the standard 1,100hp for the remainder of the fleet.

It's called the staff or token. This link will explain it better than I would.

Trains in Ireland A39 is preserved by the ITG. Not sure where though. Northern Ireland I think.
