I have a clivia for maybe 10 years and I could not get it to bloom, I didn't know that they have a dormancy period so I'm trying that now thanks to your video hopefully this year it will finnaly bloom.

Yeah, I don’t water mine over the winter - once you start to see new growth in the spring pick up the watering again.
Hi, i have 6 huge clivias that were once one.. they grow like crazy but no flower.. only one did once.. i now use phyto light etc.. but still nothing.. am i doing something wrong?
A friend just gave me one and I've been watering it (it's January) and it's blooming now. I guess I'll now know what to do next year, but I definitely have confused it's cycle.

Hello and thanks for this video. I bought my Cilvia over a year ago and it is producing leaves but no blossoms. I did keep it watered during the winter and it was sitting near light but there is no sign of a blossom. I have it outdoors where it gets about five hours of direct sunlight and the rest of the day it’s definitely shaded. How often should I be watering it and how often can I fertilize it?
They can’t be watered in the dormancy period that could very well be part of the reason they didn’t flower. I would only fertilize after dormancy up until it flowers
Thank you for the informative video! I have mine for about 17 years but it only blooms once. The flowers were just stunning! I didn't know there is a dormancy period and wondered why it only bloom only once. Now I know. My question is, wouldn't the leaves dry out if I don't water it during the dormant period? Thanks

Hey man I think you’re super knowledgeable here and honestly I’m going to end up going back to your video for frequent if not constant refreshers 😂. I might not be sure or maybe I have not seen your recent videos but I feel like the pauses in your speech really are distracting/not helpful. You clearly understand the topic and actually provide meaningful content. You might be reading off a card or just trying to recite from memory but I feel like your materials would be more digestible if you talked more fluidly. Thanks for the great video. What is the best thing to do after it blooms and the flower sags? Would cutting the sagged part off be a good idea?
I just let it be.
If you leave the flower it will try to seed, thus you loose energy for future growth. Remove dead flower stem, no point risking getting any bacteria from a decaying stem.. You can actually remove some leaves if plants are too large, best done at same time as removing flower..
Would it be OK to keep my Clivia plant inside my house where it's not actually "cool" as long as I don't water it....during its dormancy period, October til February/March? Or is it imperative, it be placed in a COOL location? I bought my plant from a nursery a week ago. It's good sized and it had already bloomed. She cut off the flowers but the flower stem is still there. Should I cut that stem completely off? Your video is very informative. Thank you for your anticipated response.
The flower stem will die back on its own. Left to it’s own devices the seed pods will form where the flower buds once were. As far as the dormancy most important is not to water it.

Aloha....mine is getting brown leaves at the end and some have a split in the foliage as if it were sliced. What do i do to correct? In the past I have just cut the brown off but want to make sure I'm doing this correct. Also how far back should i cut the old bloom off? Thanking you in advance
You can leave the leaves 🍃 alone, and make changes to the conditions (light, water etc.) - pruning if the conditions aren’t right could make the matter worse.
Mine has gotten some yellowing brown on the new leaves. Is this to much water? I only water it once every other week

Not sure if I killed mine. My 4 leaves was easy to remove. I was looking at the leaves and they were loose and I pulled it and I broke off :(

@@TylerMossop it was a baby to a mother. Do you think I was reported too soon? Not sure how long long it needs to be root bound before separating.

Hey Tyler! I just purchased a nice size bare rooted plant from eBay. Should I pot it up and store it now? This is my first one. I have thirty plus amaryllis and about 12 colors of holiday cactus. @@TylerMossop just done some research, and have to pick red ish pods so I have a little waiting time if it gets that far. Soak when you have a viable pod, clean with fungicide dry off and plant in coir, perlite eye down cover with plastic bag to help with humidity 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻.

I tytpically buy the individual components and create my own soil mix. You can find each at your local big box store, nursery or online.

Yes, I understand. In the video, I explain that I use a bark, peat moss, coco coir and perlite mix, but don't give percentages or a specific recipe. And you want to know how many parts of each would work best. Correct? So there is no hard and fast rule or percentages. You can use any pre packaged orchid bark mix which ususlly contains perlite. Bark can vary on chunkiness, so if you have a finer bark you will need less peat moss and coco coir. Do you have all of those ingredients already? How chunky is your bark? You can try 2-3 part bark (orchid mix) to one part coco coir and one part peat moss (and another part perlite if not already in the orchid mix)...something like that should work fine. What is the best time of year to repot a clivia?
Great question! Clivia should ideally be potted a few in a container, they like to be root bound, so only repot if you absolutely must, after they bloom so late summer, fall is best, does that help?

Damn it, he forgot to tell us how often are we supposed to water them, I was given this plant and they never bloom, lots of leafs but no flowers😒
You don’t water them during their dormancy period. This is definitely connected to flowering and blooms. Are you meeting the other criteria or conditions these plants require?
