Purandara dasa's compositions are sung in different ragas chosen by artists. How I wish Bahudari tune for Irabeku is standarised the way Raga sisters have rendered it.
' Irabeku haridaasara sanga parama jnaanigala sampaadisa beku ' is a monumental dasar kriti in Bahudari.....that does not contain Rishabham. It is called a shadava-audava rāgam; 6 notes in ascending and 5 notes in descending scale wherein no Dhaivatham in the descending scale alone, which adds melody! It is a combination of the pentatonic scale Mohanam and the sampurna raga scale Sankarabharanam. The ragam allows use of Kaishiki Nishadham (N1) as an external note in the descending scale. Hence it is considered a bhashanga rāgam, a scale with notes external to the parent scale. Here the sister duo presented a sweet melodious and vibrant rendition ' Sang charanam 1 and 5 ( skipped 2,3,4) with an extempore swarakalpana ; probably best ever listened in Bahudari ! Very good recital. Best wishes ! Here I should say on other krities on Bahudari.....Listened recently too ..the very popular kriti of Sundara Narayana ( V P menon) = " Gurupavanalaya Pavanamorthe"; .GNB's-'Marakoti sundari' and 'Unnadiye gatiyendru' & Guru Dr.BMK's 'Kamaladalayatha lochana'.

When this started as the second song I was expecting "Brova bharama" , it was one of the wishlist to listen to Live from RaGa. When Dasara pada started I was like I will miss the swaralapana. And what just happened at the end was so miracle. Dasarapada with swaras was extra icing on the cake. So refreshing to listen to this during the lockdown :-) Thanks Murthy, Bangalore

Both of your bahudhari has a different flavor. Am a die hard fan of both of your bahudari. Melting bahudari from Ranjani madam and striking bahudari from Gayathri madam. Like sarees , different dimension , but has a beautiful underlying common thread .

As a Telugu lady belongs to AP I too proud of tamilians who are propagating Telugu kritis and Telugu sangeetam mostly written by Telugu tyaga Raju , Telugu syamasastry and Telugu muttuswamy dikshitar those who are known as " sangeeta trimurtulu" Telugu by birth and settled in tamilnaadu. Anyway I appreciate tamilians for their interest and commitment for carnatic music irrespective of language. Being a Telugu lady I must thank tamilians for the promotion.
