... and 2 days later she ditched the guy and kept his Epson! 😆 Seriously, it's the granddaddy of all laptops and notebooks -- but with better battery life and _way_ better keyboard. Credit where it's due. That said, the battery packs in these things can be a bitch to replace, which often means rebuilding it yourself. I had a single cell suddenly fail this year, still awaiting replacement. 😕 (And yeah, I accidentally shorted a pack while soldering. I saw stars...)
It's virtual, as we'd now call it; the actual text width can be larger and you can shift a "window" around with the arrow keys. But agreed, not very practical. Critics back then ridiculed them as glorified calculators.
What I retain is that 16KB of RAM were enough for a student's whole day worth of note taking ^^ (the HX-20 pictured in the commercial had no memory expansion nor the cassette module)
I had an Epson laptop at one point in time but I don't remember what the model number was but it had a color display and close able lid unlike this model and it was running windows 3.11
I worked at Epson America during the time this commercial was made. Sales of the HX-20 were dismal, people would rather have the Radio Shack laptop, which had a bigger screen and integrated software. In the end Epson found that the VAR. (Value Added Resellers) market was the place for the HX-20. VARs loved the unit, because they would write their own software and add their hardware, to sell it as a special system. It was so popular with VARs that production continued until the year 2000, when the couldn't get anymore parts.
I refuse to believe that students brought literal desktop computers to class
I did

The REAL Smart Kids would bring a Ti-83 with a thermal printer into class 😎
that screen is small, so small

That was before the TRS-80 Model 100. How about that. Boy, when the model 100 hit, I saw those everywhere.
I resurrected one these days...glorious little machine!
OUCH (0:11) HAHAHAHA (0:21)

Today we have tablets and smart phone.
I had one and it was no chick magnet. Not at all
0:21 what?!
The TV goes bye bye
What's there not to understand?! Gravity at work!
May be a little bit of overkill on the reality of that apple ii situation
Never mind the fact that the Apple was way more capable and expandable. Literally an apples and oranges comparison.
very rare
250,000. Not the rarest.
@@zerothisbaud4226 I can get one for $20 right now. Don't know if I should. Restoring it does sounds like a fun project.
I prefer the toothy brunette, she has more charisma XD (google translation)
Me quedo con la morocha dientona, tiene mas carisma XD
Well, she has (or rather, had) a better monitor at least. 😉
now it is an obsolete piece of shit, that is now buried along with the E.T. cartridge s from Atari.
This computer looks like it escaped from Epstein island Gatsby
