Speedmaster XL 106-8+LYYY and XL 106-D for In-Mold Label Solutions (IML)

The Challenge of the in-mold label production is the thin and lightweight material. Our IML Performance Package ensures that you can print even these highly demanding substrates with a thickness of 50µm at top speed up to 14,000 sheets per hour. It ensures high process reliability and an extremely stable sheet travel. With this configuration, 40µm substrates can also be processed.
Presentation of the latest Speedmaster generation, specially optimized for in-mold label production: the Speedmaster XL 106-8+LYYY with coating unit and three drying units, as well as the new reel sheeter CutStar, the cold transfer module FoilStar Cure and the Speedmaster XL 106-D single-unit rotary die cutter. This press with IML-Performance Package is specially designed for the production of in-mold labels.
The new platform is synonymous for greater automation, easy handling and short makeready times. This is particularly important for the trend towards shorter runs, even in the IML business. More and more jobs have to be produced in the same time. Hycolor Pro and Hycolor Multidrive are a response to the demand for greater efficiency and high productivity of our label press.
The new innovative reel sheeter CutStar, in the 4th generation, has a brand-new and easy-to-maintain design. Another innovation at the feeder is the hold-down package, it stabilizes the sheet infeed, especially at high production speeds.
Heidelberg's solution for the inline metal effects of IML labels is the cold transfer module FoilStar Cure.
Vertical glass panels and LEDs are installed between the printing units to monitor the sheet travel. An adjustable air blast tube is located between the impression cylinder and the sheet guide plate, with which the sheet travel can be optimally set.
IML labels are often produced with fast-drying coatings that tend to dry on the sides of the anilox roller and the chambered doctor blade. This is prevented with the spraying device in the coating unit. Continuous, finely metered spraying of water in the sealing area stops the buildup of coating.
A special feature is the separation of the drying process from the delivery. Three additional drying units form an extended dryer section. 10 hot-air and infrared dryers are integrated in these three units to optimize the drying process. The extended dryer section and the reduced distance of the dryer from to the substrate increase the performance of the dryer.
After drying additional antistatic devices after the last drying unit stabilize in the sheet travel. Additional auxiliary grippers for maximum format size and the PowderStar AP 500 Duo with CleanStar Slide-in ensure smooth and safe transport of the sheets to the pile. The Automatic Non-Stop Delivery enables continuous high speeds without interrupting the production. Pile changes are automated.
The Speedmaster XL 106-D single-unit rotary die cutter sets new standards. It reduces the floor space and the energy consumption at an attractive price. Production and makeready times are 2 to 3 times faster in the IML sector compared to flatbed die cutting, and tool costs are also lower. It matches the high production speeds of presses and postpress machines and delivers perfect quality. At the delivery, an automatic tape inserter counts and separates the individual sheet bundles.
