The reason why Beckett committed Suicide on his Ship was because He knew he was going to lose sometime Later in the Series. After all, the Flying Dutchman was his only Golden Ticket to Ridding the Golden Age of Piracy and Without the Dutchman on His side of the war effort, there was no way to maintain law and order against the Pirates around The World. (Pardon this part of history that I know, but it's the best example that I could Find.) it's kind of Like at the end of World War 2 When Hitler Committed Suicide in his Bunker because he knew he was going to Lose the War. After the war was over, and when he Lost, The Armies of Russia, America, and Britain would Eventually Capture him Alive and Do God knows What to him If they got Their hands on him. So, he had no Other Choice but to Off himself and His Wife so they both wouldn't have to a Prisoner of War Camp. Kind of a Dramatic way to go, If I do say so Myself.
