    I did a similar water survival training with the Marine Corp, Second Recon Battalion, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. But for this exam, we had to do it with uniform and boots. It was a challenge because the uniform created a lot of drag. To swim my mile, I used a combination of different strokes like you did . Later in life, when I was in my late 30, learning to do this combination of strokes, saved my life: one day, while celebrating completing my PhD, I was challenged by a friend to swim a mile in a lake. When I began swimming, after half mile or so I started vomiting. (That was my first time swimming in a long time.) What saved me was using different strokes to swim the remaining section. Keep the good work!

      Incredible story! It’s such a basic thing, but you don’t know what you don’t know.
      I can’t imagine having to do the mile swim in boots too! No thank you

    Hey! I was recently selected for my second choice as an NFO from the Dec OCS board.. don't know a whole lot about NFOs so still doing my research. Good luck in NIFE!

    • @savanahleigh6261
      @savanahleigh6261  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Awesome! Well the job of an NFO varies A LOT depending on which aircraft you are in. They joke and say we are “non flying officers” because we aren’t “aviators”, but the jobs available for NFOs are very cool. Excited for you to learn more about it!! And thank yo

      @@savanahleigh6261 Thanks! How long is the training pipeline as a whole? And whatre the chances of going jets?

    • @savanahleigh6261
      @savanahleigh6261  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kayamkarnawat9494 the aircraft you get chosen for honestly just depends on the needs of the Navy. Again the training time depends on the aircraft you choose.
      NIFE is about a 2 month curriculum (6 week ground/class, 2 week flight).
      And then I’m just going to generalize it and say primary, intermediate and advanced are each 6 months (again, depending on aircraft)
      WINGED!
      Also, the time it takes to complete this depends on what the waiting periods are like. I commissioned May 2020 and am starting NIFE March 2021. There is also currently a few month wait for primary. It’s different for everyone and depends on the time of year (obviously ROTC people mostly graduate in the spring so there is a large influx then through the summer/fall) but at least that gives you an idea. I hope this helps :)

    Hey Savannah! I wanted to have some expectations on boot camp, training, and discipline in bootcamp. I’m very young and probably don’t need to be worrying about all this stuff at a young age but I don’t know a-lot about (also probably stupid question what collage did you go to and what degree did you get?) Thank you! P.S. I just watched a boot camp video and I go so scared then I deleted my old comment on one of your videos (this was all just about five minutes ago) then I said well I still should ask my questions! So here I am still worried about blood cam and boot cam discipline but I’m not giving up!

      4 hockey, I did the same thing you are doing, it was 37 years ago tho. Was an AME2 out of NASNI. Accepted to AOCS fall 1986 as an SNA.
      Graduated Feb 87’ then flight school at NSE, NPA and NGP. Was a Hummer dude. No regrets. Your E’s will really like the fact that u were a fleet sailor when u go back. I could relate to them and also wade the BS when it came up.
      12 years back in the fleet as a Naval Aviator, 5 years as a white hat, then 10 years up here at the Pentagon. Retired as an O-5. best of luck to you.

    • @savanahleigh6261
      @savanahleigh6261  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you should definitely do some practice on your own before hand. Maybe don’t rely 100% on learning everything at remedial, but I’ve heard great things from people that have been in remedial! The instructor keeps you in as long as you need (and as long as PRACTICAL) until he feels you can get through water survival.
      Additionally, there will be other swim training you will have to complete later on so it would be a good idea to just get more acclimated now.
      I hope this helps!!
