Prayer is spontaneous communication with the father. It is not regurgitating someone else's words. When you talk to your earthly father do you read from a script?
That is the most natural form of prayer, yes, and we should strive to make all of our life a constant communication with God in such a manner but....there is a thing of Scripted prayer. What was Jesus' response to the Apostles when they asked "Lord, teach us to pray"?. He gives them the 'Our Father'. Your definition of prayer would exclude the prayer God commanded us to pray - straight from the lips of His Son. We don't always know how to communicate with God (as the Apostles asked Jesus to teach them) so in knowing that, God gives us scripted forms of prayer so that we can conform our heart and wills to His own. Scripted and spontaneous prayer go hand in hand!
Heresy. Protestantism is a 16th Century invention. Matthew 26:36-46 36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” 40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” 43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the *third time, saying the same thing.* “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,

My wife and I were wondering if you have or can assemble Prayers for a time of personal Afflictions?
We’ll take a look
