Nice review! I'm glad you called out the real metric in choosing Premium Economy: "how much more than Coach would I pay for this?". That really helps in deciding whether or not to spring for an upgrade (or a cheaper upgrade to Extra Legroom Economy).
we flew LAX to AMS March 2023 with Premium/Econ.. fantastic! we tried the same product with Air France 777 CDG to LAX, not very good. United Prem/Eco is righ in the middle. Later this year we are trying Virg All Prem/Econ LaX to LHR using the A350-1000. Best plane for has been the Dreamliner. subscribed to support your channel. You need to reach 5k soon! pajamas
Thank you for subscribing! And thanks for your thoughts too. I'm curious how you find Virgin on the 350, the product looks really great to me and I've heard good things. Agree Air France's looks among the worst!
@@wirkarens2 good service. we ended up flying with 787-9 Dreamliner from V/A. For us they are a 2nd place to KLM, United 3rd and AF 4th. in terms of premium economy. We made 2 small short video on both trips. You are welcome to check them out. safe travels!
Amazing views and great review. I´ve only ever been in the pride lounge in Nairobi and the KLM one just looks stunning compared to it. Those Pyjamas sound great :D
Thanks for your review, overall I like KLM. I think P.E. on most major airlines is fine for long haul up to around 7/8 hours. After that I go for Business because the chance of getting a genuine sleep in a lie flat bed/seat for at least 6/7 hours is magic My regular long haul is around 11.5 hours and it’s so good to arrive feeling great and not jet lagged .😊
Nice report. In ny experience, KLM always has good service. Actually, there are a number of airline lounges that have pay restaurants. The food in Lounge 52 on the first floor is free and is usually good.
Nice report. Useful to know about the seat comfort or lack of it. Also like your mentioning the pajamas, though that's not a feature in KLM Premium Economy :)
As a KLM platimum member ( not for life ... yet) and living near AMS it's my preferred carrier, thou I also often fly Delta because of their Delta one Suites. KLM needs to get those if you ask me. I flew this class last time I came back from Suriname when they didn't have any business seats left. I am with you on this one. The extra space is nice but it didn't recline enough to be comfortable for me and after about 5-6 hrs I was exhausted trying to stay seated ( I kept sliding doen as the seat angle stays the same when reclining) It's better than economy - at least on this flight as it is always overbooked - but on a less busy flight I would probably fly economy in the hope that you can get some extra seats that are empty next to you. (but only if there is no Business class)
Incredible that there are no separate toilets for Premium! Legroom is maximum 96 cm (so maximum 17 cm more than economy and only 8 cm more than comfort).
Being Dutch, flying KLM and/or Delta is my general choice for getting to the US. My usual route is AMS-ATL-TPA as there's no way to get to TPA directly from Amsterdam. Of course, having entered the Global Entry program made the whole travel experience a lot more easy :-) The only thing I'm not happy about is KLM no longer offering free seat choice on their 'Standard' flights like they used to.
@@airedition Yep, when you travel to the US on a regular basis, having Global Entry is basically a must 🙂 I was lucky in that I could actually do my interview at Schiphol, Amsterdam.
Being a Platinum for life on Flying Blue, I used to fly business class, economy comfort, but now I find the Premium Economy the best bang for the buck. I sleep as good as I would in business class, but I pay far less. And I found ways to still get my nice KLM houses (….). Living in SE Asia, I always fly KLM when going back to Europe every 2/3 months. Still one of my favorite airlines.
You’re lucky being able to sleep. My regular long haul is over 11hrs. and I used to find it difficult to get more than just a couple of hours sleep at most in P.E. so I switched to Business.
You would be surprised when you try another business class on a premium airlines like Singapore Airlines, Eva Air, ect. KLM is a joke, getting served by 60 year old cabin crew and the prices are just to laugh about. 😃
really appreciate for the video! the price you paid for the flight is soooo good!! i am now comparing front economy and premium economy, and as you said, it's seems wider if it's not too crowded in front economy seats. maybe i will try both of them in my next flight!! thank you

Hey! I’d meant to send you the link so I’m glad you found it. And glad you enjoyed it 😃. I realize now the one thing I left out of the video was an update that I definitely lucked out with my seat neighbor that day! 😂
Pajamas! You had a similar trip as I did ARN>AMS>JFK! Definitely felt the same about the quality of the hard product but overall the crew is some of the best and lovely to spend time with on a medium range trip.
Like you, I'm a fan of KLM! I wish they provided pyjamas along with the Delft houses! But I do appreciate the professional service levels provided by their great crew.
Nice review - I won’t be giving up Economy Comfort any time soon and my April KLM flight doesn’t’t even offer the Premium Economy Class. I am not a frequent enough flier or wealthy enough to get the supreme platinum and gin filled bottle class, so extra leg room is my luxury!
Pyjamas, interesting to see how it's spelt in different places, I've flown Premium Economy on KLM but never long haul so thanks for sharing the insight,
Great video! I’m flying KLM in May ORD-ARN to see Taylor Swift 😝 and currently have Economy booked and paid for an exit row seat. Just saw that PE saver space opened up so I’m debating if I should upgrade for 16,000 pts + $150. Or should I stick with exit row or bulkhead in Economy? Thoughts?
This would be a tough decision for me, and might depend which seats were available for selection in the PE cabin (also, are you a window or aisle seat person? and are you traveling alone?). The cost to upgrade looks pretty reasonable, but I like a window seat so if I couldn't get first row (bulkhead) of PE, I probably wouldn't bother. That's because from an economy exit row window I'd be able to get up easily, whereas that wouldn't be the case from a non-bulkhead window in PE. Also, I didn't find the PE seats super comfortable for sleeping. Since ORD-AMS will be a pretty short overnight run and I'm pretty sure I'd sleep uncomfortably anyway, I'd most likely decide to stick with economy. Hope that helps!
KLM to me is usually a bit below average when it comes to hard product and food but their Flight attendants are very friendly. I guess that's why they have an undeservedly good reputation.
I have always been loyal with Start Alliance, majorly AC and LH. Have done P.E in AC and P.E & Business (Surprise upgrade) on LH. LH Business doesn't offer pajams :( Never flown KLM in the past. I am looking to book a P.E again with AC to JNB, but this time Star Alliance is not providing me good enough options in terms of transit times( 12 in YYZ & 14 hrs in FRA) as I start my journey from a very interiror aiport in Northern Canada (YMM). KLM is the only one that is giving me super low transit times (YMM-YYC-AMS-JNB & Round trip). Still contemplating if I should do this route in P.E on KLM? It is a lonnggg journey.
If it’s the older AF premium economy that’s on most aircraft, I think the KLM is way better. AF does have a new one, not widely available yet, that I haven’t tried yet!
I recently checked KLM for business class flights to Singapore and found that they charge an additional €85 per way per business class seat if you want to reserve a seat in advance.
Yeah that is a very unfortunate new development. AF and KLM are doing this for non-elites. Sadly seems to be becoming accepted as the norm in Europe now.
Thanks for the review, we are thinking about taking KLM from Toronto (YYZ) to AMS an overnight flight , then onto Genoa, Italy in a next few weeks and was looking at Premium Economy as an option (we'll be taking two checked bags each). BTW: Pyjamas
Thanks for sharing. Ill be flying KLM 'first class', from AMS to GLA. Unsure how the 'first class' experience will be on that short trip. I am thinking it will be more like the premium economy. Thanks again for giving me a glimpse of what to expect. #pajamas
Glad you found it useful! KLM doesn’t offer a first class so I guess you mean business class. On that flight it’ll be an economy seat with better service, possibly a bit more legroom! I think it’s adequate for a short hop 🙂
I was thinking the same thing. Will find out next week! my flights are with Virgin Atlantic but partnered with delta one on the long hauls then with klm on the shorts. Thank you!@@airedition
Thanks for sending that link. I have 2 different aircrafts with KLM and I was hoping to get one of those houses! Doesn't look like it based on the videos but still grateful for the trip@@airedition
Premium economy is a tough one for airlines. It has to be worth the money for economy passengers to want to spend the extra for a better in flight experience, but if they make the hard product too comfortable they run the risk of losing highly profitable business class passengers who may be more willing turn to premium economy to save money and/or air miles. PE has improved over the years and I think there some more innovations to come, but ultimately I can't see airlines making their PE cabins that much better than the current industry standard today which is a recliner seat with 18-21 inches in seat width, 37 - 40 inch seat pitch, 8 inches of recline and possibly slightly better food.
@@aireditionYeh for sure, they’re making big profits from PE. I did LHR - SIN last year on their 777 which is a premium heavy route and roughly 60% of the entire plane was taken up by first, business and PE. Airlines make very little profit from an economy passenger but they have to it available. However, they can make huge profits from a single passenger travelling in first, business or PE.
Great video, was debating this class, I had images of it being better, for the price, thanks for sharing, all planes should I've out comfy pajamas and slippers, would be great 🤣
That is an excellent point! Water should always be free on flights. @SAS listen to this! I had a weird experience last fall where I missed my flight from Oslo to Stockholm by a hair and had to get an SAS flight instead. It cost more than twice my original return ticket one way and my flight was leaving straight away. I had to run through the whole airport to not miss this flight too and got I boarding panting like crazy and started coughing cause of the dry air. Had to pay 35SEK for a bottle of water even though the flight attendant saw I was having problems coughing. Finished the bottle in seconds. And it helped but still. 35:- for a little water. Not great SAS! You have the nicest voice to listen to in your adventurous videos by the way. 👍🏼
I love klm just went to la and sfo last October so I flew with klm and im from holland myself. I would love to fly business class but cannot afford it. im already happy with the service in just economy but thats just because thats luxury for me
Something about KLM charging additionally for meals in the lounge doesn't surprise me. 😅 There's something so dutch to cutting costs, in the same way they likely minimize cost on the seats. The Dutch won't have a penny gone to waste, which isn't necessarily bad! But damn not even on a pair of pajamas...
There are a number of airlines having paid food in their lounges. The food on the first floor is free and usually good. In my experience, very few airlines provide pajamas on transatlantic routes.
That’s why I always fly with Asian or Middle Eastern airlines whenever possible. The service is a thousand times better and you don’t usually have to pay for extras.
Thanks, that was interesting. I never consider paying anything more on flights of 2 hrs and under, but I was recently bumped to Business (without asking for it!) on a KLM flight to Detroit and wow, the whole experience makes such a difference in the state you arrive in at the destination. Options like these sound like a good compromise. Having said that, it also feels as though Business has now become a degraded 1st class (especially when 1st has been abolished), and Economy Plus (or whatever it's called) a budget Business. I know of a big company my brother works at, who used to let their staff fly business on Atlantic flights, but now habitually puts them in Economy Plus.
Hi @seanregan2249, congrats, you've won the pajamas! Send me an email at gabriel-at-airedition.com or a message on Instagram @gabeleigh and let me know the address to send to!
Thanks Gabe, miss your Flight Radar reports. Have you now gone solo? Good luck as you’re the best in my humble opinion. Downside of using an excellent airline KLM, is having to transfer using Schipol - I would agree it’s always super busy with very cramped gates for departures. I travel from UK to Scandinavia quite a lot but tend to use SAS because of convenience ie direct routes from Manchester UK but I would agree the service doesn’t compare to KLM - apart from a cup of coffee, you get no water or a snack. Also KLM airline crew seem to go the extra mile even in economy. On a return, very busy flight, from Helsinki to Manchester via Schipol, airline crew went out of their way to individually notify me of the transfer time and connecting flight. I thought that really nice and efficient.
Thanks for your thoughts and the kind words! Yep in your case I would opt for direct flights if possible too. I’m still doing tons of Flightradar videos, just not doing as many trip reports over there, have moved those over here and dedicating the FR24 channel to cockpit and behind the scenes!
The biggest disadvantage of premec is hou have a bulky arm rest, so if you have an empty row, you can not stretch out over that row whereas in econ you put the armrests up and you have a econ business class bed
True that is definitely a potential downside. However I almost never have an empty long-haul flight these days, so I don't generally take it into consideration.
I like KLM they are a reliable airline. It’s important to remember that Premium Economy is still Economy so the difference isn’t going to have any wow factor. On my regular long haul (11.5 h) I used to fly P.E. (B.A.) however they once upgraded me to Business and as they say, the rest is history. No more P.A. for me 😁
It’s a good point! We shouldn’t expect too much from a product which is still essentially “economy”. For me increasingly the real appeal of PE is that it will mostly have seats in pairs at the sides, meaning if I’m traveling with someone and want to actually have a conversation or work on something together, it is more appealing as a result than most business classes for that purpose, and I don’t mind the more cramped conditions. Now if it’s a night flight and we need to sleep that’s another story. And yes when I’m solo, if at all possible I’ll be sticking to business! 😁
@@airedition Agreed. My flight is overnight and I really appreciate the lie flat bed that gives me a minimum of 6 hours sleep, sometimes nearly 7 hours. I don’t care about the airport lounges, they seem to be getting more and more overcrowded so I often give them a miss.
07:20 The original Blue café is actually a very nice café in the center of Amsterdam with a great view over the city. higly recommend! But its no surprise to me that they make you pay even for the lounge... 😅
I use to fly KLM but now choose Delta or American out of Copenhagen direct to the U.S. Your right about SAS, I stopped flying them as well due to cost and service. Premium Economy on Delta and American are pretty good. The seats are wider than KLM by the looks of it.
I think the width depends on the aircraft to some extent. Should get out the measuring stick next time, get more scientific about it! Thanks for the comment.
Great trip report as always. I assume you go through passport control using your Swedish passport in Amsterdam and then enter US using US passport? I'm curious what passport do you show while checking in? Airlines typically give me a pretty difficult time and annoy me with visa checks with my AU passport and ask for return tickets until I show them my EU passport lol.
Correct. The airline only cares about your admissibility to the destination, so I check in using the American passport, then exit Schengen on Swedish. Basically just always show the airline the passport you intend to enter the destination with! Thanks and glad you enjoyed it!
I can't imagine many paying customers in these seats these days, you can fly business cheaper with many airlines then these seats costs to book, at least to BKK as I'm currently in the process of booking my next trip there in January.
Interesting, can you give an example of fares? This cabin in general seems to sell very well, and I think KLM are doing very well with it from what I hear, but if they're pricing this higher than business class that's nuts!
Pygamas! You’re lucky. When I booked the same flight AMS-SFO in Premium Economy, my wife and I were downgraded to Economy via LAX due to aircraft change so never got to try what I had paid for. Bummer. 😡
I agree that Economy Comfort on KLM is much more worth the price than Premium Comfort. I paid just € 128 AMS HKG and had plenty of space. Premium is usually way more expensive. KLM staff is lovely.
Pajamas! Demand for Premium economy seems to be high for most airlines. Sometimes i dont understand why they cost more than business class. I assume a lot of people manage to upgrade based on their status.
Foot rest was stuck because you had stuff in pocket above, I find this in a lot of these seats, you need pocket empty for it to go high enough to allow you to lower it, odd as that is to write

Thanks for the review, we are thinking about taking KLM from Toronto (YYZ) to AMS an overnight flight , then onto Genoa, Italy in a next few weeks and was looking at Premium Economy as an option (we'll be taking two checked bags each). BTW: Pyjamas
I’m really glad when the reviews can help people make decisions!
Who's that screaming like that at 03:50 in the morning!? :p
😬😂
I thought I was going craY
Food looks spectacular! What a nice, big salad and you did'nt even mention😮. Singapore Airlines PE food looks medicore aigainst that.
Interesting! I only took a short leg in SQ PE
This video will give you a good sense of what to expect on KLM's 737 Europe business class th-cam.com/video/cVxWZ2dG66w/w-d-xo.html @@maladyhawke
Thanks for sending that link. I have 2 different aircrafts with KLM and I was hoping to get one of those houses! Doesn't look like it based on the videos but still grateful for the trip@@airedition
Awesome video! And pajamas! lol
Thank you!! 😁
Very true! All I know is by the rate at which we're seeing PE spread, it must be proving a nice moneymaker for most airlines.
True. And KLM was more or less forced to introduce PE because the transatlantic joint venture expects it.
Pajamas!!
Thanks for the great review of PE. Booking made and we're off to AMS in Sept.
Cool, enjoy!
Great video, was debating this class, I had images of it being better, for the price, thanks for sharing, all planes should I've out comfy pajamas and slippers, would be great 🤣
Very glad it was helpful!
I fly both and to be honest, the premium economy seat is more comfortable than the Business seat.
Pajamas will be nice. Traveled economy comfort from AMS to JFK last month, good recline compare to regular economy seats.
Good to know!
Pakamas! Do you plane to fly domestic in Norway with Wideroe? Fly to all the remote places, and all the bad weather it comed with the airports
Making plans for that as we speak, yes!
Thanks a lot! And yeah it's experiences like that that really stay with passengers (re the water price gouging)
I took KLM premium comfort to AMS back in August, Great crew, I didn't get pajamas though :)
Hehe that’ll be the day!
Does anyone know where I could find the flight radar fleece he has I couldn’t find it on eBay or anything
You won't find it, only a select number made for people who work with them!
@@airedition thanks!
Is it too late to mention Pajamas? 😂 You still have them? Any idea what food is served in regular economy? Nice video.
Too late yes, sorry! Stay tuned for future giveaways! No idea about the economy menu.
I love klm just went to la and sfo last October so I flew with klm and im from holland myself. I would love to fly business class but cannot afford it. im already happy with the service in just economy but thats just because thats luxury for me
Seems like they are a nice solid airline in every class!
Let me win those pajamas so I can feeeel this comfort in my never ending night shifts 🏥… enjoy your flight ✈️ ❤
Hehe thanks!
Yeah interesting. And yet KLM are generous compared to other airlines in some respects (like free food, beer in euro economy).
What camera do you use, btw?
Sony FX3 with some backup from iPhone 15 Pro Max and a DJI Action II
Ah interesting, yeah that's rough if you go from being allowed to book business to only getting economy plus!
Great report and who doesn't like pyjamas :)
Thanks!
Hi @seanregan2249, congrats, you've won the pajamas! Send me an email at gabriel-at-airedition.com or a message on Instagram @gabeleigh and let me know the address to send to!
Hi @seanregan2249, I haven't heard from you; last chance to get in touch or I'll need to pick another winner!
Would love those pyjamas!!!
The aircraft you saw on approach into AMS is the Embraer E195 E2 😉
Correct!
Would love those pajamas!
Wait, I'm not seeing "Premium Economy", only "Premium Comfort" when booking from Sweden to US. Are they the same?
This is what KLM calls premium economy yes.
What was the cost of the ticket for this flight?
See the description. $1800 with a return in business class.
Obviously USD? That isn't too bad if you are getting business on return@@airedition
Your pyjamas offer is great for me. Cheers.
Good to know!
@@aireditionwee peeeee peee😅😅😅😅😂😂😂
I travelled economy from Delhi to Amsterdam. I got Crew some chocolates and they in return gave me business class aminity kit and A house
That is a result!! 👍👍
Bummer. 😡
Oh that is rough. Did they offer a refund?
I agree that Economy Comfort on KLM is much more worth the price than Premium Comfort. I paid just € 128 AMS HKG and had plenty of space. Premium is usually way more expensive. KLM staff is lovely.
Good to hear that you agree! Thanks for watching!
Pajamas! Demand for Premium economy seems to be high for most airlines. Sometimes i dont understand why they cost more than business class. I assume a lot of people manage to upgrade based on their status.
I’m amazed that you didn’t fly in your pajamas 😅 (waking up at 03:00 am!)
Haha never!
Foot rest was stuck because you had stuff in pocket above, I find this in a lot of these seats, you need pocket empty for it to go high enough to allow you to lower it, odd as that is to write
Yeah you are no doubt correct - bad design if you ask me!
