Great. A detailed and specific lesson, but very clear. Recently bought an electric upright, having played electric bass for years. The right hand technique and keeping the thumb positioned downwards is a bit challenging, but you show why this is important. Thanks

Serena, just recently stumbled upon your double bass tutorials and I absolutely love them. I've been playing double bass for about a year and a half after years of playing electric (with a pick nonetheless) and have had to overcome a lot of obstacles I did not know would be in my way (LIKE BLISTERS!!!). One thing I'm eager to learn is how to produce a nice galloping rhythm (where each beat is composed an eighth note followed by two percussive sixteenth notes) found in a lot of rockabilly. Is there a method for the right hand that is similar to a drummer's heel-toe technique on the kick drum? Look forward to seeing more videos and hope Bamboozle will be able to play in the US in the (understandably not-so-near) future.

Hi Dane, so sorry I didn't reply to you sooner, your comment got lost in the ether of TH-cam! There is for sure, you pull the first slap on the string, followed by a percussive hit with the heel of your hand, then the second hit is with the top of the palm. You can get a lot of speed using this technique if you build it up! I hope you're still working on it and the blisters have settled down!

@@BamboozleHQ Thanks you so much for your response. The past year I've been trying to make up for the lack of percussion in my band. I've seen that technique performed by a lot rockabilly players, but they're so quick it's hard to see what they're doing. Hopefully with your explanation I can pull off this technique and utilize it in my band.
As for the blisters, this past weekend I played a two hour set and did not develop any.

@@danedoering great news on the blisters! What strings do you use, as that can make a huge difference to blisters AND slapping speed! It’s a lot of work when you’re both bass AND percussion!

@@BamboozleHQ Flatwounds. I did recently get the recommendation of going to gut strings.

@@danedoering I’m not a fan of guts myself. What make flats?
