It seems like a quite small society, population no more than 20? it's not hard to see how that could fail over a few generations. The intelligence that lead to the formation could be gone in the next generation and any inbreeding could further shorten their life.

When I was a child in 1988 9r 89 I got to be inside the dwellings. I know they stopped public access 8n 1978 but I REMEBER the the guide specifically gave permission to go inside then invited the kids to attend a ceremonial dance where the children were invited to participate. i believe the drought conditions that caused the pueblo builders to leave are happening again, the drought has already lasted 20+ years in the SAME region as the, i believe they were the Anasazi and , from what i can remember, it will last another 80 years, minimum, it is just a piece of a memory, but i seem to recall that the drought lasted 100 years and that was the main instigator for the builders to move away, the water dried up and they could no longer grow crops to maintain their population.
