Mine is Dark Souls, got plat on all the Souls games, got a ps5 to play Demon's Souls again (my first from soft game in 2010 after reading, and taking a punt on Demon's Souls). It's one of only a handful of games where I've wiped some tears away when I've finished and I've been gaming 34 years, never thought I'd finish it at times, had tried so hard, got stuck so many times, used guides, beat Ornstein and Smough with Solaire to even the odds, did all the other bosses solo cos I like to finish those games solo. I was proud, happy, sad and buzzing all at once when I finished that game, the ending credits music is awesome. For beautiful, dark, similar music there will be closer but check out Amber Asylum's album Sin Eater! Enjoy Elden Ring too, I'm counting down the days

Fallout 3 for me. First time I played it, the 50’s setting and music, the vats system, my mind was at awe. I remember the first time when I first arrived in the DC area, I exited this subway tunnel and there was this tall building in front of me with a horde of super mutants hold up inside.
I got close to the building and blam, the super mutants started shooting at me, I took cover and began using the VATS targeting system to take them out individually, while my pipboy played, “I don’t want to set the world on fire.” Truly an amazing game and an amazing experience.

This might just be my tendency to overthink things, but I don't think I'd want to forget about any of my favourite games for fear I wouldn't like them as much next time. As much as I love Metal Gear Solid 2, or Deadly Premonition, or Max Payne 2, or 999, or Disco Elysium et al., I can't help worrying my love for them was at least in part a product of the time when I first played them. Maybe the final case of the third Ace Attorney game wouldn't resonate with me as much now as it did in 2008. It probably wouldn't. I doubt it would. My memories can stay, I think.

Shout out to Hollow Knight and to Ash for mentioning it!! I absolutely agree with Ash and this is also my answer to this question. That first play through of Hollow Knight is just so memerable! Obviously this is an amazing metroidvania game so definitely worth replaying, but I would give anything to just have a fresh encounter again.
The combination of desperately want to explore but also so scared about the new enemies that always seem just ever so slightly overpowering is so perfectly balanced. Every time you got sent back to the bench by a new boss, you feel frustrated but also you always think "OK, I got to try a different strat this time." And that's how the game pulls you into it before you realize.
Also Ash can we get a Hollow Knight PlatiMonday maybe? I know this is excruciatingly hard but speaking for all the hollow knight nerds out there we would really love to see it!!

That would be Yakuza 1 from the PS2 era (and the rest of the games that followed as a result) - I picked that game up on Christmas week when I wanted to play something new. I just saw this on the shelf - I had no feelings about it at the time except 'Oh it's set in Japan'. I just decided to get it with zero expectations. I did not sleep that night because I was so engaged with it - I can still hear the old background noise (hearing the occasional 'nii-san!' in the crowd), the footsteps Kiryu made, the sound effects when inputting the direction buttons and selecting items, the sound of money being added to your inventory, the music playing when you enter Shellac, the feel of Kamurocho back then with 'Unrest' playing.... haa. Lovely.

The first time going through east and west hallways is the equivalent to a first time rollercoaster/haunted house experience...but as you play it over and over the adrenaline rush and scariness that was captured the first time becomes less and less. I started playing 'Hollow Knight' after the halloween streams, thinking 'that platforming challenge doesn't look that hard - I'll give it a try'! I was very quickly proven wrong. I've never been so in love and so frustrated with a game before and everything Ash said here is spot on. I'm nearing the end of the game (I think) and am so sad it will be over...
Also, that creepy sound Rob made in the outtakes will haunt my sleep.

I read somewhere that the grubs in the end of hollow knight don’t actually get eaten. Apparently the grub father is using his body as a cocoon for the grubs who will undergo metamorphosis. I think this is backed up by the name of the achievement you get called ‘metamorphosis’ or something, and also if you dream nail the grubfather when he’s in the cocoon state it says something that supports the theory

A tricky one! Mine might be Monster Hunter World. I remember saying to my friend 'I wonder if this'll give me my money''s worth'. The answer is most definitely. I've played it for over 900 hours over the past 2 years and I would do it again. Learn the game again, be afraid of the monsters again, get better at the game again, be charmed by the game's world, music and atmosphere again, fall in love with the game again, triumph in the game again, minmax the hell out of every possible set again, really start to get better at the game again, beginning to master a weapon again, learn to time my dodge rolls again, master each individual mechanic again, but still feel very humble about the game's depth it still has left for me to uncover, face defeat again, try again, and again and again, and finally defeat Fatalis again. I'd do it all over again from scratch if I could. Also grats for reading this far :p

HK was my first thought, but there's tons of replayability there. The answer should be the game that gets the most out of the first play over any others. So my answer is Subnautica.
We can all relate to the desperate feeling of being surrounded by the deep. Once you know the lay of the land, where to do and how to survive, and the reality that lies under each later of the onion, Subnautica loses almost all its power. It's a great game but almost all the enjoyment comes from exploration and discovery.

I would, 100%, choose Skyrim - especially if I was starting again right now.
I still remember how it felt, heading to the block, then Alduin drops in. When I figured out how to equip spells - I like to go in to new games as "blind" as possible - crafted a potion, crafted Ebony gear etc etc. Lots and lots of hours, and great memories, that I'd happily do over again.
If talking non Playstation games - Legend of Zelda: Link to the past, from the SNES (have it on the Wii for my kids to experience). That was the 1st game I didn't finish in a weekend, as a kid. Absolutely loved it.
