I tried it on one of several iPad 2 and iPad 3 and it would not update in the final stage, then your "iTunes Fix" never worked either, as it never recognised the 16 download. As a result my iPads no longer show their iosx, just a stuck screen, and one of them will no longer verify, so is stuck. I really think if this only works on iPad5 + or iPad7 + you should tell us the early exempt models, if that is the case. I went to a lot of trouble and now my early iPads are WORSE.

I think Apple originally stopped supporting older iPads simply because their processors running the latest software would not give the user the best experience. But if you want to continue updating past the officially supported last version, then your device may tremendously slow. It’s a risk to get more lifespan out of your device at the exchange of killing it’s performance.
I rather have slow performance out of an otherwise still perfectly capable device, vs having to throw it away, as the latest os on the mini 2 is 12.5 (and some apps stopped supporting that os).

Developers are raining the minimum iOS version to ensure their app is optimized for the latest devices. They don’t assume that the average person still uses iOS 12. I’m sure that in a few months that a lot of of the apps that previously worked perfectly on iOS 15 will require iOS 16 or later. It’s nice when a developer chooses to provide backwards compatibility.

i tried it didn't work for me on the iPad mini 2, this ipad is too close & too new to the IOS 16 not old enough in my opinion so ur installation process will probably not be the same as others. mine might be too old im not sure

You can fix it…Restart the device ore click to Reset in “general” and then reset Network Settings. Don’t forget to delete the Profile 16os.
