What tires are you all running on your 24' Africa Twin?

    • @user-dv7hb2sc9m

From the vibration I'm seeing I think I'd look at one increment better for road use. Whatever the method of increments
used for the intent of your riding(80% - 20%) w/ 80% being road use, I'd go up to 90% Roads instead. If you're running
a 50%/50% tire I'd bump it to a 60%/40% & you can leave an aggressive rear knobby while making the front a lot less
Dirt oriented. They would not be a matched set but you can do this w/ bikes & by doing the front it'll change all that
bouncy vibration we're seeing. And I don't even have a bike but I've seen this done before & it's not weird or a danger.
      Good luck, peace

You need to slide the back wheel off road , basically turn all your traction control off , power slide it the front wheel won’t wash out if you have the power down on the rear whilst cornering on dirt.

"Let's be honest... we're doing stuff like this and goin to Starbucks!" 😅 Subscribed.
I learned as a kid on dirt and trails, and miss it. All things being equal, I'm getting my AT in about a year.
I've watched off-road TH-camrs swear by Shinkos, or this tire or that one. So I've been at a loss as to what I'd replace the stocks with.
I'm extremely curious to see how your ordered tires compare to these, off-road.

My 2021 AT AS was delivered with Metzeler Karoo Street. 21 inch front wheel is fine for me. I drive on asphalt only, commuting and touring. The tires did a great job. After 14k kilometers I changed them for a new fresh pair.

My 2024 ATAS is definitely more twitchy off asphalt on the same Bridgestones as my 2017 AT. The 90/10 street BattleAxes, or whatever they are. They actually do a lot better than I ever expected on gravel, small ruts, and dirt. Provided it's dry and not too steep.

I thought that the stock tires work pretty well on light offroad stuff apperently. I am quoting Big Rock Moto and he was doing 70 mile an hour on sandy socal tracks. I live in Connecticut and there are not too many offroad areas here. Still good to know for future reference. I've been trying to find a manual one of these and I've just secured a crated one for pickup next week. Getting a center stand put on it too. Naughty Honda for not getting in on there stock.

Motoz Tractionator Adventure rear, Dual Venture front. Magic on my Tenere. MABDR, NEBDR, lots of technical, lots of road, and 6000 miles later I still could get another 1000. Feels great on the twisties, great in all offroad situations (I haven't ridden much sand).
The best thing I can say about them is that I have never had to think about what the tires are doing when I've ridden them.

I run the Michelin Anakee 3's on my 23 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S and they are AWESOME. Only time they ever feel sketchy is Mud... which like you said if riders are honest with themselves they shouldn't be riding a 1290 in mud.
What I love about them is that they feel close to sport tires on the road, and for the BDR's I ride (MABDR, NEBDR, and PA-WILD X) they have worked great on the gravel and occasional dirt.

Ended up coming off the Missions to the Raids and so far loving them, seem to be more grippy on the street and much better in the looser stuff offroad. That being said I just had the mission rear and a Shinko up front and I just didn't have nearly enough confidence in the Shinko off road. Granted im on a 21' Front so that could make the difference as well. How are you liking the Missions?

I am running Anakee Wild on my 21ATAS. I like them, wish they were better on asphalt and lasted longer. I just put the Trailmax Missions on my DR650, switching from the Shinko 244. So far, I really like the Missions. They are relatively phenomenal on the road and maybe as good on gravel/ dirt road (dry) as the 244's were.
I will likely put Missions or Raids on the Honda.

My 24' AT standard came with Anakees out the gate. I dont hate them but they are a little too much of a road tire for riding where I do (MT, ID, WY, WA, OR, UT). The Dunlop Missions or Tusk 2tracks are what I'm looking at for my next pair of sneakers. Just to give me a little more aggressive profile but still be worthy of slab travel. Solid video, ride skillfully 💪🏻

I ride a 2017 R1200 GSA. The previous owner has Michelin Anakee Adventures on it. They are a very good road tire which is most of my riding, but so-so on dirt. My next tires will be Dunlop Trailmax Missions. Most of my off road is to visit friends who live on farms or developments about 5 miles off pavement. I also am not a real aggressive rider and did not buy the bike to run in crazy conditions. I also do not want to be changing tires every few months for 10 to 20 percent off road. I just want a competent tire for both situations.

SMDSR- It seems not all GREAT tires, work the same on all bikes. Lots of characteristics effect the final perception. I feel like to continental tkc 80 is not so great on a light dual sport. But it sees to do very well on a heavier ADV, I guess the increased weights makes those big blocks bite in deeper? IDK, but perception is not all tires work as well on all bikes. MAYBE the battle axe is great on the tiger but not as great on A twin because of some other, unexpected design characteristic like rake and trail? Just a thought.

Hi from Montreal, i friendly suggest you to try the Dunlop Trailmax Raid for your Africa Twin AS ES 2024. Me & my friend have same bike as yours. The Dunlop Trailmax Raid are very good off road and they are excellent on twisted, asphalted roads 👌🏼. They allow to ride sportively on asphalt. @@adventureundone It’s sure that nothing can beat the extreme longevity of the rear tire Trailmax Mission. It’s still hard to know clearly the longevity of the Trailmax Raid. Some are saying that their rear tire last only 5000 km and some did over 10000km with it. A few even told that their rear last even more! It’s weird! Let’s ride, wait & see by ourself! If the rear dosent last at least 8000 km for us. It will be a quest to find something else for our AF AS ES 2024. The Trailmax Mission have hard rubber… I prefer softer tires, but not as soft as the Battlax AX41. It’s clear, it’s well known, the rear AX41 dosent last long! I am sure that the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR could be a very option, but i prefer more agressive tires. The Continental TKC 70 Rocks (60/40 only for rear) could be another great option… I do not understand why Continental dosent also offer a TKC 70 Rocks front tire. Yeah, i know, for front there is the TKC 70 (70/30), but i prefer to have something more aggressive in front; at least another 60/40. Cheers!
