According to the dictionary, Structure means, The arrangement of and relations between the parts or elements of something complex.

In structural analysis, structure refers to a system of connected parts which is used to support a load.
    Classification of Structural Analysis:
It is very important for structural engineering to recognize various types of elements composing a structure some of the more common elements from which structures are composed of:
    1. Tie rod
    2. Beam
    3. Column
Tie rod: Structure members which are subjected to a tensile force often refer to a tie rod. The ties rod is shown below figure.
    2. Beams; Beams are usually straight horizontal members used primarily to carry the vertical load. There are various types of beams which are shown below.

    3. Column:
While columns are the elements that are generally vertical and resist the axial compressive load. There are various types of columns which are shown below.

Types of structure that is made from the arrangement of the above elements:
    Truss
    Cables and Arches
    Frames
Truss: A truss is a triangulated system of members that are structured and connected in a way such that they only incur axial force. These members are considered two-force members as the forces are only applied at either end of the member, resulting in either a compression or tension force. A simple triangular truss is shown below.

    Cables and Arches:
Arches: An arch is defined as a curved girder, having convexity upwards and supported at its ends. There are various types of arches based on the number of internal hinges, which are shown below.

Cables: Cable structures are structures with cables as the main load-carrying elements. They are structural elements that can hold a great amount of tensile force with a relatively small cross-sectional area. Since it has reverse curvature to that of the arch.
Frames: Frames are structures composed of vertical and horizontal members. The vertical members are called columns, and the horizontal members are called beams.
There are two types of frames:
Rigid frame: The joints of a rigid frame are fixed.
Flexible frame: While flexible frame joints are moveable.
