My dad switched from Cadillac to Lincolns in 1961 with the 3rd (?) generation Lincoln Continentals. I think he owned 2 or 3 of the series starting with the 1961. They were and still are extremely beautiful. I remember driving these when they were new. They were really special and at the top of the luxury cars back then. They and a few others, like the Rivera, and 1961 T-Birds were really a major tasteful move from what the 50's had available. They were so quiet and the interior materials were of such high quality. Real wood, leather, high quality vinyl, little plastic, and great thick chrome. While I remember the 1957 Cadillac Sedan Deville as a nice enough car, it was nothing like the 1961 Lincolns.
The amazing style of the 1961-1965 Lincoln Continental achieved its MOST beautiful design in the 1964 version. Elegant, timeless and finally with interior dimensions that could rival Cadillac. Those interior dimensions should have been there in the 1961 version! The only TWO American cars that could rival this 1964 Lincoln were the redesigned 1964 Imperial( beautiful a la Lincoln) and the 1964 Cadillac Fleetwood series.(not the DeVilles.)
Mint condition. Am more inclined to the 63. Like the front grille better. Growing up Dad had the 63 Lincoln Continental Ragtop with bucket seats. One of a kind. Amazing car. What happened to it? Dunno. By the time we became adults and had all the questions Dad had died already at 42 yrs of age. He had a whole bunch of fine autos. Our neighbor had the 55 Mercedes SL Gullwing. Dad also had the income and a family owned business to indulge in the autos.
I worked for a lady in 76 who had a light turquoise with lovely green leather interior, when she got another car no one wanted it,can you believe it?😮😊
Well... here i am, 10 months later, and we saw it, sight unseen, and it was in ruins, we have 2 of the hubcaps and later on, my dad bought a 61 continental with 37,000 miles on it, its an amazing car
May i ask what that is on the middle of the dash? Im currently restoring one (which is my first ever major project) so I'm still learning about this car. Yours looks very original so I was jist wondering. Owning a 1964 Lincoln has been a dream of mine since as long as I can remember, I'm about a year in and still have so many questions about this car. Yours is beautiful by the way. Can't wait to drive mine for the first time.
It's called "Guide-Matic" and is an automatic headlamp dimmer. Here is detailed information on it. automotivemileposts.com/tbirdautoheadlampdimmer.html
they added a few inches to the car for 1962, more leg room in the back seat and the grill change was about it. The back side window is larger than the 61, which gives it a different look
@@califdad4 No, the body structure/wheelbase was identical from 1961-1963. It was extended in 1964, and that is also when the flat side windows were introduced - to accommodate a bit wider roof and to save cost.
@@murphman76sorry, was on my phone and hit 2 instead of 4 for 64. I knew that, but thanks for catching my typing goof. Always loved these cars as s kid. Even had a friend that his Mom had a white 61 Lincoln convertible about 69-70, the top was not working by then, but she was still fond of the car
So nice to see this kept original and not thugged out.
Those were the days. What a model, what a year for Lincoln.
Absolutely Beauuuuuutiful Car!♥️
My absolute most favorite Lincoln of all time!!
I would be proud to drive a 63 Lincoln continental! It was Detroit's and Americas finest hour !
That is one fine automobile!
my very favorite car of all time, just beautiful

As a kid Dad had the 63 ragtop, black, of course. How I wish I had that car today.
'64 Continental, the ultimate luxury american car! Just perfect!

This is a real nice one, they didn't all have leather interior. The 62-65 are my favorites
califdad4 what do you have against the 61?

the grille on the trunk lid is non sensical
@@novidsheremovealong1893 I prefer the headlights on the 62-63, but still like the 61 also

which one didn't have all leather interior?😮
so completely original, thrilling silence
Class!
Beautiful car. I owned a '63 and a '64. I liked the '63's design better
"63 was much more attractive, I don't like the look of the flat windows on the "64 and "65.
My dad and i are supposed to go and see one this week

Me gusta el carro; Lincoln Continental 1964; es una reliquia muchas felicitaciones
The rare AM/FM radio option. Exactly what is the exterior color?

I guess the 61 curved side windows were just too ahead of their time. In some ways, the first model of this car was more stylish.
