I tried this build and its very fun, especially with the high mounted arms that can shoot over cover. I then adapted it to a ShadowHawk 5M and added in a MRM 10 with a case, 1 ton of ammo for it and 2 jump jets. Works stupidly well, same skill set. Trading a little speed for more armour and more damage.

As for a single RAC/5 not being viable in heavies, the only RAC build I've found so far that works for me is a single 5 on the high mount in my MAD-5M, replacing twin UAC/5s, with a couple of LPLs mounted in the right arm. I'm not a great 'Mech jock,, but that loadout consistently performs well for me. YMMV, of course.
Victor Milán If you have a BH2 try RAC 5, 4 ER Med, 3 Med Pulse. ERs provide pinpoint long range firepower, RAC is medium and short and Pulses replace the ERs once they are half way between Optimal and Max of the Pulses.
As far as I can tell from watching a few of these videos never playing the game before with balistic weapons - Machine Gun - 7.62 machine gun. Heavy machine gun - 50 cal. AC-2- 20MM AC-5 - 57MM AC-10 - 100MM AC-20 - 120mm+ At least what it seems like based on real world equivalents.
Build aproved, 1st match on it i did 842 dmg 1 kill (solo kill), 2 kmdd and 9 components destroyed. XL 200 3 tons of ammo rest is almost the same and skills are little diferent too.
As an aside and a point of credit, If i may point out the alpha lance in that first fight was amazing, Baradul of course and war glaives the master of hiding out of the battle and killing without being seen, check out his KDR its the highest in MWO at the moment. He only pilots a couple of mechs and his Arctic cheetah play is something to behold.
It's fine as long as it's your home doorbell. I have a relatively uncommon phone ringtone at work. One restaurant I frequent at noon tends to have the same one. It is annoying as hell! You want to get away from work in at noon and yet I jump every time I hear that tone!
excellent play, i have a rifleman with a pair of rotary ac5's and i absolutelly love it . no less than 600 damage per game, its a huge jump from my other builds where i only get 100 or 200 damage per game.

Great vid again Baradul! i love all your videos and streams so i say this conservatively, what would be your thoughts on shortening your intro on these videos to a quick once over on the build and then doing a complementary "in-depth build" video alongside each gameplay one?
it's just that with the new skills, the intro's do require a lot of attention which may not appeal to everyone unless they love the mech you're showcasing :) just a thought.
You should revisit this build baradul. I think using the 4-x with a uac10 and JJs is really fun and can be effective if someone with your skills is running it.

I run a similar build on my Cicada. You lose JJ but gain a much sturdier mech and ECM. Though I run 4 smalls because I like to suprise assaults in the back and eat the CT
You also got a lot of Friendly Fire damage due to people blindly running into your stream of bullets. I had that too a couple of times and it often happens with lasers as well.
I run a similar build, but I run a light machine gun as well. Its loads of fun, really hard to use in duels vs other lights though, but the raven has never been good at that in general so that's nothing new!

why dont some mechs of the same class have access to some weapons? Example. 1 med mech has access to rotary ac-5 another dont. is it levels or just that mech cant have that weapon?
Because not all chassis of a given class will have a ballistic mount for ballistic weapons. If all you have is energy slots you have to run energy only like lasers, ppc's etc.
DrDarTV Believe it was stated in a townhall with Russ that cooldown does NOT affect RACs. Which they actually NEED it even if at a reduced amount compared to others.
Considering the date of upload, I'm a Little taken aback here - seeing *my* original build from around when the RACs got introduced, and that Baradul must have spied it by spectating during a match. Only - it's obviously not. Because, well *my* Muninn is actually just the meta 3L-build; 2xER large lasers and an ECM. So while my RAC5-raven is also based on the 4X it varies both in that it has jumpjets to augment getting into good spots for laying down suppressive fire and also that it is named Unca Donald to reflect how angrily and stubbornly this mech let's loose when engaging, completely disproportionate with it's wee size.
I tried this build today.....and...I would get focused every time!!! Poke, get melted, try and push someone back, get melted, hang in the murder ball, get melted...vomit alpha after vomit alpha...I couldn't get a single good round out of it. It just like kill a raven day or something.
I think it's more that he has played long enough to use terrain/cover to be his LRM counter-measure, instead of using up tonnage and space for it. Not 100% effective, but then, neither are the AMS systems, they just help.
Ashmodai No it wont. Will RACs are viable they are not Meta defining weapons like the CERML, PPC, or Gauss has been in the past. Almost ALL of the Civil War weapons are serviceable but none of them flat out replace what is in game or redefine the Meta.
Bigbacon .Same, unless you have streaks theres not too much point to if you cant reliably hit them. Let someone with more fire power deal with them so the few hits they do get in actualy do something. Just make sure you join in if the enemy light is like rinning circles around an assault or heavy or something.

RAC jam chance is too OP. It needs to be increased by a factor of 200-300% to match the jam chance for clan UACs. Alternately the jam chance for clan UACs could be reduced by a factor of 80-90% to bring the two weapons more in line with each other.
I'm afraid so, Neo. It's all about balance, and if the clans can't fire their UACs for 7-10 seconds straight without jamming, then the inner sphere should not be able to fire their RACs continuously for 7-10 seconds without jamming either. I know you don't want to lose your new over-powered toy, now that you're wrecking clan mechs right and left. I wouldn't want to lose that either if it were my new toy, but reality bites, and sometimes it bites hard. That's why I also suggested that the UACs be improved, instead of nerfing the RACs. Oh, and just for your own edification, "NO" is not an argument. Next time try "I DISAGREE AND HERE'S WHY".
Air-strike really don't let anyone see the real damage done with the mech anymore... You can even put 700dmg with 2 perfect air-strikes on a match, is crazy.
Yes, I definitely get what you mean. At the same time strikes are a part of the loadout. So does it really matter how you do the damage at the end of a match? I know that it feels like a "better" win if you only pull it off with your own piloting and aiming skill....but still. If it works, it works.
True It hides my general incompetence, i can hide my lack of skills behind one good artillery and everyone goes, "wow he did alright" but really i was average or worse and the only reason i got so much on the arty was the enemy was balling up to mow us down

Built this a few days ago before I saw your video. I named it the "Rotisserie Chicken" since a AC20 Raven is a Boom Chicken

They deal damage in clusters like IS LRMs. At least they did in thr old tabletop rules

I've been running a similar build on an Assassin DD. Super fun and its looking like RAC/5 on lighter mechs is going to be a thing.

Tried the build and had soo much fun with enemy heavies. first match with only few skill points did around 560dmg and didn't even go out of ammo.

RAC 5 is viable in Heavies. Current BH2 build is 4 ER Meds, 3 Med Pulse and a RAC 5.
I would have moved Heat sinks to other side and put on NARC. Raven is great for that. have a lot of fun with it.
Not sure if this is more or less fun than the old Raven AC/20 build... but it certainly looks like an entertaining mech build

I put a RAC5 in a SDR-5K. I call it Aracnid. It's a bit low on ammo though.
You can safely dump one heatsink for more ammo. That extra heatsink doesn't do much..
Anyone whining that Clan mechs are still way better... look at this goddamn RAC5 raven build.

Spider 5k with a RAC5, you get arms that move too!
Its possible to put a similar loadout in an Urbanmech. Less movement speed, but lots of armor and a short frame.

You should try a 3x mrm20, 2mpl, 2hmg Zeus (the 2015 legacy one). It is so fun. You have a damn beehive on your right arm.
Speaking of big guns on small mechs, Try a HPPC locust PB.
You can use an xl180 and about 16 points of armor, it fits lol. Just don't get shot

you sure cooldown doesn't affect rotary? otherwise the panther would be a beast with 25% base reduction.

Just built this. Slightly less armor for 3 tons of ammo.
Do this exact build in my urbie, works very well. On an urbie its supperior due to its small size and supperior armor.

bEEF has done it during test. It's not really that effective. LBX 5 and more speed however, quite effective.
The only weapons you should put on an Urbanmech is an Ac20 and a small laser. Anything else and you're a filthy fucking heathen

Rotary 5 is really bad on heat. Why would you not run a boom chicken with UAC20? That is my question.
