Tips to Stand Out as a Physical Therapy School Applicant

  • Doing the most to get your name and face recognized could help increase your chances to get accepted. Be assertive with what you want!
    You have to have good enough scores (GPA, GRE, etc) to even get considered for physical therapy school. Each physical therapy program has a minimum requirement. That means if you do not meet those requirements, you will likely not continue through the DPT application process.
    Some DPT schools do not have an interview section for their program, but my school, Azusa Pacific had an interview process. If your school as an interview process, this video talks heavily about that too.

This process is both exciting but makes me so nervous. Another question is how soon did you ask for letters of recommendation? stefanie hernandez-mendez NICE!!! You have everything all lined up, which is soooooo awesome! You’re doing it right! I would recommend giving your professors/PT about 2-3 months before it’s due (and actually give them a little earlier due date just in case they don’t write it in time) so if you want to have everything ready by Dec 1, I would ask them in in Sept/Oct and tell them it’s due Nov 15. That way, if they forget, you can still have some time to ask them again

      What’s good Spencer!! Best of luck with the interview! I actually might be around that day. I would definitely wear a suit. You want to communicate that you’re serious about this program. Be on top of your non verbal communication (eye contact, smile, posture, etc) they look at all that too!
      Being sincere is the best way to go. Be yourself and be respectful. They already know you’re smart. You’ve proven that already. Now let your personality shine and show them who Spencer motha freaken Todd is!! Haha

Can you also get grad plus loans while in PT program to help pay for housing.... ? What major should I pick to become a PT? Like which can I pick, I thought kinesiology would be best but a lot of colleges don’t have that as a major?

    • @drjustinleedpt
      @drjustinleedpt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would advise kinesiology, exercise science, biomechanics, or anything related in that field. If your college does not have that, something like health science or biology is good too. Your best bet would be to choose a major that you’re interested in learning, but also has the most courses that also fulfill the prerequisites for pt school. Does that make sense?

    Did you go to a community college for your pre-req's or did you go straight to a university to do all of your schooling?

    • @drjustinleedpt
      @drjustinleedpt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Organize Your Life I did both! I went to university then dropped out then community college. Took some online classes. Then transferred to university again. I got my prerequisites along the way but most of them at APU.

      Organize Your Life if I had a choice, I would try to get most of the done at a CC. if possible. It’s super impacted so it’s hard but that’s what I would have done

      Tamika Jones talk to the programs youre interested in to see their stance on prerequisites being at CC. i am a transfer student (took first two years at CC, so all my prereqs) and the program i’m interested in wants me to retake them at a four year university to “prove i can take upper level science classes”, even though i have had a 3.8 gpa at CC and 4.0 in the last two years of my degree which is exercise science. so talk with the admissions at the programs you like

    • @drjustinleedpt
      @drjustinleedpt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Danielle Ho-Vuong I waited a day to give it to them. But I would recommend 1-7 days after. It’s a little strange to get a thank you card right after the interview. If it’s not possible right after due to traveling, you can always either mail or email! But definitely follow up with a thank you

      I would recommend bring the card in the next day if that is possible. If not, an email to those specific professors is great too (a day after your interview). I wouldn't fill the card/email with a much of kiss ass things but more professional like "thank you for your time, etc." It is just another touch point to get your name into their minds
