I think now I know why the judge is in such a bad mood. The case is a clear win for the prosecution but because of everybody’s constitutional rights, Mr Edgecomb is entitled to a trial. Which, in this case, has been such a waste of time and money.
This judge has the same manner in all trials he sits on. He is extremely factual and precise. He comes across as bored, hostile in this case. @@geoffpoole483 well, in cases dealing with ACTUAL self defense, and not just USING that excuse AFTER the fact (because you seen it work for another defendant in the same state within months of your own trial), then we don't see this mess happen. For example, Kyle did great during his cross examination because he was truthful and because he REALLY DID have no choice but to do what he did. When you don't have to lie and when you know you're right, taking the stand can help you, which in a case of true self defense, you wouldn't be changing up your story and evading questions, trying to buy more time to think about what you're going to say (which is why he kept asking for the tough questions to be repeated over and over... to give himself more time to think of a way he can answer that won't make him look bad), etc. He just looked and sounded like a guilty man sitting up there... ofcourse that would have been obvious to the jury too.

Typically, if a defendant takes the stand in a murder trial… he/she doesn’t have much of a case. @@FlappyBelly For him to be declared a "hostile witness", the attorney that called him for the direct examination(the defense) would have to make that request. Giving his demeanor/testimony, I believe the judge could have the authority to cite him for contempt of court.

Most human beings have compassion for others. We usually like “likable” people. This guy had one shot at making that jury not only like him, but more importantly ~understand him and why he shot that man that night. This man failed completely with his one shot, I would say. As much as he talked about how he teaches his children to love other people without condition, to practice humility, ect ~ his behavior was the exact opposite, not only regarding his actions that tragic evening, but right there in that courtroom when he was being cross examined. He was a fool. Just my opinion, but from my perspective he thought he was getting that prosecutor good ~he sat there barely concealing his smirks and asking for questions to be repeated over and over again… joke could perhaps be on him though. Don’t see this turning out very well for him by the end of this trial, and sorry but rightfully so as he clearly takes zero responsibility for his part in what took place that night.
I'm almost curious if he had just turned around and went the other direction and went a back way home after punching the guy, how this story would have played out. You don't give him a straight shot to you. I wanted this to be a misunderstanding, but it's so hard to trust a man who keeps going back on his word and keeps deflecting.
@Smokey Bones I've seen through this guy from day One ! It's simple ... I am proud of myself that I got through watching to the end.. I might even go back and count how many times he actually asks for the question to be repeated as though the prosecutor had just read him a line of Shakespeare. Mr Edgecomb I suspect is of slightly low IQ, any time he hears a question with the word killing or shooting or homicide he does his standard attempt at trying to do the ol' protecting myself from danger routine and refusing to budge - the air of frustratrion and irritation must surely have been coming from all over the court - and he seems blissfully unaware that whatever doubt the jury may have had at some point has just been taken care of - the jury will probably be out for an hour... I want to know about the two other criminal matters. Can't ask him because he wouldn't give you an answer - BLIMEY!!
They discuss the other criminal charges in a different video where they discuss it when the jury is out. It’s weapon charges, domestic violence and dui endangering. He was clearly not allowed to posses a firearm when he killed the victim
This video should be used as a training video for all defense attorneys to show them why you DO NOT put the defendant on the stand under 90% of circumstances. Because this could happen. Good Grief.

He knows he has a job to do and he gets on with all details.
I have seen other judges, take the Dr Husel case, who interrupt, crack jokes, bias.
Me, personally I prefer this judges line of presentation.

I think testifying has sealed his fate. In my experience defendants testifying tend to harm their case. Not always, but usually. The transition from a confident witness to someoneone who has trouble remembering what day it is under cross probably doesn't go down well with juries.
I agree with you totally. I’m not sure if he went to far with his strategy or what! This is hard to listen to. It’s like he was two different people on the stand.

Typically, if a defendant takes the stand in a murder trial… he/she doesn’t have much of a case. Sure, there are rare cases where a defendants testimony might safe their life, but usually, it’s against their attorney’s advice. Any reasonable attorney with a possible case knows that very little good will come out of a cross.

I noticed the smirks too. Disgusting person. It’s a total act. “Poor innocent me”
I'm almost curious if he had just turned around and went the other direction and went a back way home after punching the guy, how this story would have played out. I can understand all of the injustices and fear he speaks about, but you don't run in a straight line to get away from an alligator, you run in a zig zag pattern or you go around it and run.
