    Both days looked like that ground turned over nice. I like that you are keeping plowing alive to show what we used to do. Thanks for the videos.

    Tractor fenders are the original "buddy seat"... Well I think now I may have seen it all. That Deere 720 tandem with the dual's is absolutely wicked. Your Grandfather would be proud seeing his flagship tractor still in the field. Y'all had unique tractors for sure. The tandem Deere a propane Deere a 2 plus 2 IH and others. Not the best weather but I'll bet nobody minded...

    The 170 Allis Chalmers has the wrong plow. Should have either a mounted, or semi mounted, dial the TB in and let her fly

    what a difference a day makes! still amazing but everyone looked pretty cold and wet!
    sew the rain drops in a few shots, must have been nice to have a cab over you. so both
    fields were done? that is a ton of plowing, it is great to keep the farming history alive!

    I've never seen a crawler ploughing with one track in the furrow before. Kind soil easy ploughing so long as the moldboards scour OK.

    Hiya Brandon, unusual and cool to see the "crawler" plowing!
    Got pictures from my grandfather in Italy, he plowed with a Fiat track tractor 2 bottom plow. He lived in South Central Italy where the terrain was quite hilly, rubber tractors would flip and to get to different fields (few acres here and there), wheels wouldn't climb. He also hired out to few other farmers getting older. This was late 60s to mid 70s, before migrating to the states, Ohio. Totally different, he said they where like " Italian Hillbilly Amish " , still quite of few plowed with horses and mules, farmed to self sustained, the small fields where terraced. Though you would liked it a bit.

    4640 are a great tractor. Put many hours on one my boss had.
    Lots of field work, grain cart duty
    Hog shit tanker and a front blade.
    Quad range with fwa. Loved running
    that tractor. 2nd biggest only to the
    8630 we had.
    Glad you have your grandpa's tractor

    Is it any wonder farms used to be 40 acres? Imagine trying to plow 600 acres with two and three bottom plows. You would have needed a fleet of tractors to get anything done. It is cool to see the fleet of old tractors out there working though.

      We farmed 325 A with Case 400 and MM 3-16 plow. Plowed every year; no no-till. 3.2 mph, 20 A per day on the best day. Usually 5 days to plow 80 A field. One other tractor for harrow and roller.

    Hi Brandon good video I enjoy watching plowing. I’ve never had a chance to do it very rare where I live. Also glad to see you’ve recovered from being hacked scum should all be shot and pissed on. Just wanted say if you get a chance to do a short video on the twin tractors the 720/730 and the corn binders I would love to see it a little history on how they came to be and when they were used etc. Thanks for the great video.

    After spending some time in hospital recently I finally got to catch up with your videos. One question I have is does anyone run ploughing competitions in your area or in America? As over here in the UK and Ireland ploughing competitions are a big thing and have sections for classic to modern tractors and single to 8+ furrough ploughs. Where you get marks on how straight, how well furroughs match between runs and how well you ploughed the top under the soil (the more grass/stalks and junk on the surface the worse you get marked)

    • @burtzorn4059
      @burtzorn4059 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ran by tractor hydraulic, toggle switch in the cab. Pretty simple set up. Some ran better than others.
      Lot of the time it was a dirty valve
      body when they didn't perform good

    How can u say the field is finished, the headlands aren't done yet. Why such big headlands? 🤔 need a rollover plow to do the headlands.

      I have noticed that the 30 series sound different when they are wide open they just don't sound like the 20 series it's like the have a smoother fast putt to them that was wide open

    • @dirtgrainsteel
      @dirtgrainsteel  ปีที่แล้ว

      There were a few that came but didn't unload because it rained you just don't see many Fords or Massey tractors in our area and we even had a Massey dealer in town for years so I don't know why there aren't any I know of a few large tractors but no small ones

  • @jacobbuckley8232

    So farmers dont plow their fields now days like they used to??

    • @dirtgrainsteel
      @dirtgrainsteel  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not like they used the chisel plow and disk ripper have taken the place of the plow some guys just no till

    • @johnnyholland8765
      @johnnyholland8765 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@dirtgrainsteel Plus there is the argument out there that it is actually detrimental to good soil health. I don't know about that because not all soil is the same. Some soils respond to certain methods of tillage and some don't. You will have the research...

    • @dankreoger611
      @dankreoger611 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The "experts" claim moldboard plowing creates a hardpan that roots have a harder time going deeper through. I loved plowing, but tend to agree that chisel or v ripper creates a looser seed bed
