Great to see PFS being discussed and awareness of this horrible condition increasing. I experienced complete loss of libido over 4 years ago whilst taking Fin and my sex drive has never recovered.
Would love more prolactin discussion. Particularly regarding high end of normal range of prolactin, e.g. 20-30 ng/ml. I'm at about 20ng/ml while taking daily Adderall (which I would believe would lower prolactin). From what I understand, tumors will put you in the 100+ ng/ml area. What effect does elevated (but still "normal") prolactin levels have on the body over time, that is distinct from the effects of low dopamine?
Professor Andrew, please do a video on the short term and long term effects of oversleeping and undersleeping on the body and brain and what amount of sleep constitutes being considered "oversleeping" vs "undersleeping" would ya please? You've told us how to optimize our sleep but tell us what happens to us when we dont
As a sex coach, I can't thank you enough to have guests like Dr Malik, Dr Eisenberg and Dr Gillet. Those are vital informations to help men have a fulfilling sex Life, and a fulfilling life. Thank you again Dr Huberman.
Hoping Dr. Huberman starts bringing on guests with experience in consciousness and spirituality. As Nikola Tesla said “The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.” Peace and love to everyone, as we all become more and more closer to source and finding out who we really are beyond our physical body ❤.

Thank you for raising awerness about Post-Finasteride Syndrome. It is a debilitating, chronic condition with serious physical, neurological and sexual symptoms. More research is desperately needed to understand the condition better and to identify potential treatments.
@@mc7231 I know guys with pfs from my country that have all their hair and side effects still present after stopping the drug...you dont know what you are talking about.

I really appreciated this episode podcast topic. I have gained a lot of insight from this episode alone. I sincerely hope that this episode's topic(s) do become much more widely discussed amongst various types of individuals, experts, and maybe evens institutes. As yes, male infertility is just as important as the female infertility epidemic issue(s).
As person on spectrum I experienced a ton of rejection then something changed in my late 20s. Women were suddenly were interested. So I had my first kid 34. So older age and increased chance of autism makes sense. In my case as autism is genetic.
Thanks for speaking about PFS. I’m a 23 year old patient myself and have suffered from a horrendous suite of neurological and physical symptoms. I’d love to hear more about it from you, especially about the science that has been done on this so far and what needs to be done in the future. It’s also important people know some of the most devastating symptoms can be non-sexual, like anhedonia, anxiety, joint pain, arrhythmias, tinnitus, etc.
Same here man, all were warned about are sexual side effects when this drug can destroy your life in every aspect, I was a healthy 25 year old who took this poison for a month and I’m basically disabled, this drug as pretty much turned me into an 80 year old man overnight..

I had no side effects from taking Finasteride for like 6 months now. Maybe some rare genetic variation makes dependency on DHT for daily functioning instead of testosterone? All the symptoms seems similar to ones of low testosterone.
Loved this podcast but I’m so bummed there was zero talk about vasectomy. I’m scheduled to get one, and really would love you to cover it before it’s too late! Thanks for all your work 😊
Made an appointment with Dr. Eisenberg for earlier this year after reading his website and credentials. After waiting months to see him for some concerns, I was instead evaluated by one of his residents which seemed scripted at best. Dr. Eisenberg did come in at the end to say he met me, but that was it contrary to the post visit report stating he was in the room supervising the entire time. They did send me across the street for a blood test, but I never heard from their office again after the results came out. Frustrated, I found another urologist who did a proper evaluation where I learned I have an enlarged prostate, urinary retention problems, borderline low testosterone, clinically deficient DHEA and not one but two asymptomatic inguinal hernias which required surgery. Maybe I'm just not wealthy enough to be treated by Stanford. They did have valet parking and nice live music in the lobby after all.
1:26 Eisenberg says that there are no ways to decrease the size of the prostate, but there have been studies showing that fasting for longer periods in men will decrease the size of the prostate gland.
Thank you for your discussion regarding PFS... it's so underrated and it needs more attention. Unfortunately many young guys (included women) are destroyed by a huge lack of knowledge of many doctors.
The numbers just don't stack up. Side effects are extremely low, about 1% higher than placebo on the biggest studies. They have also done studies where one group was told about side effects and one wasn't and sure enough the group that was told about the side effects got them. There are millions of men on finasteride, and some small fraction of these men have psychological issues that finasteride is just an easy scapegoat for, especially if you are stressing and worrying about them.
@@brandonkappes6695 all the actual data shows very low incidence of side effects, only slightly (1% )higher than placebo and cessation of side effects once medication is stopped. Think about it, the PFS symptoms are general depression and mental health symptoms , millions of people are on finasteride, some portion of theme will be experiencing depression, ED, anxiety these are things that effect young men, especially young balding men. Now these people have found each other on message boards are banding together to blame a drug they happen to have been taking for their problems, and in the process makings their problem worse because they are convinced they have poisoned themselves. I'd love to see how much of an overlap there is between PFS fearmongers and flat earthers.

Can u look more into PSSD (Post-SSRI sexual dysfunction)? ts very scary and isuess that happens are not only sexual they are also neurological. Really wish they could do an episode on PSSD and Post Finasteride Syndrome. Drug induced diseases, or iatrogenic disorders. You’re not alone in what you’re experiencing and I’ve been going through this for 13 years. It’s extremely devastating for so many who suffer silently and this conversation needs to happen at a scientific level.
I would love to see John Verveake on. I think he offers profound insight into the human cognition. However he also combines his scientific insight with experience and philosophy. He doesn’t just concern himself with knowledge but also wisdom. If that sounds vague, John Verveake would offer a great exploration into wisdom and knowledge.
I took finasteride for a little over three years, I stopped about 8months ago. At first I didn't notice any significant symptoms and they said the chance to develop any were less than 5%. I'm currently in my late 20's. The last year I started noticing less frequent morning erections to the point where they were rare. I attributed this to getting older without doing any research. I then noticed I wasn't lasting in as long in bed and started doing some digging. I've been off of finasteride over 8months and seemingly all my symptoms have subsided, but soon my wife and I will be looking to start a family. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was worried about conceiving, because of the horror stories I've heard online. After listening to this podcast I definitely think I should get tested as soon as possible to learn what my potential options are. Should issues arise. Thank you
@@michaeljames3912 I understand that, but in my case it was a clear difference. I have no history of mental health issues and the last two years of my life have been some of my best. I was sharing my story to provide information for those who may be curious.
I am amazed about the lack on concise and on point answers given by Michael Eisenberg. Andrew Huberman asked a bunch of good question and all he got were elusive responses except one: when Andrew asked about advil and other drugs and their effects on the male sexual health, function & fertility Eisenberg was so decisive on his answer said that they do not affect the matter on the discussed subject but all other answers to Huberman's question were something like we do no have enough data, we do not know for sure, bla bla bla etc. Scetchy doctor in my opinion.
I really like the fact that you're genuinely trying to help men in a positive way. It's refreshing, and it gives me a lot of optimism for the future specifically for the youth.
Andrew!!! Please speak on treating a hiatal hernia at home without surgery. Us random unlucky people need somebody like you to give us credible information without the bullsh*t social media feeds us
I really hope there are young people listening to this. As someone who had older parents and then had my own geriatric pregnancies. Please don't do this to your kids if you can help it. Some of us had no other choice, but if given the option, raising children in your 20s is so much easier physically and mentally, and the risk of them losing a parent or being orphaned before age 18 decreases.

Dr. Hubermann I would like to ask a practical question, not excatly regarding this episode. How to compromise for the lack of sunlight after waking up, if you wake up say at 6:30 and the sun raises at 7:45? Thank you.
If I wanted to continue to stay in the sauna (without the ice pack), could I stop using the sauna several months before trying to have a kid and be okay? In other words, is the damage done in the sauna long term?
Thank you for bringing light to PFS, had this hell a few months after turning 18, a year later and I still have sexual dysfunction and anhedonia and lack emotion.
Hello Andrew! I recently underwent surgery for an inguinal hernia I got at the gym. It would be great if you could create a video about common surgery complications related to gym activities.

I know very few men who haven’t mentioned how alcohol has hurt their performance, arousal, etc., I’m curious how there’s not more data on this when it’s so commonly known socially?
I'd be very if Huberman could make an episode about burnout. It's a growing concern for people as work-related mental health issues become more and more acknowledged.
Thanks Andrew and Michael. I was disappointed to see that the causes of premature ejaculation were not covered at all during this episode. Perhaps it can be a part of one of the next AMA episodes?
I'd be curious to see if there is any statisticaly significant decrease in erectile disfunction amongst the populations that actively practice kegal exercises, or if said practice might improve other aspects of hormonal and physical health(I.e circulation).
Thank you for the help and advice that you offer. I have noted that not much consideration has been given to SHBG as a cause for lower Free T. It would be great if more information could offered on how to lower this in males with higher than average levels, when combined with an also high total testosterone.
He’s not gunna do a video on a very small problem that you have, listen to Christopher walker on TH-cam about SHGB. Mine was quite high and got it down with the help of his videos
Thanks for the heads up about the other source of information. However, my comment was mainly for the purpose of highlighting that TRT is not the be all and end all treatment. Taking a simple supplement like 10mg boron daily has been shown to significantly reduce SHBG in both males and females, thereby increasing Free T and improving function and aesthetic without the need for TRT in many men. Simply continually focusing on exogenous testosterone and therapies similar to this (even whilst highlighting side effects) to those that are less able to research, aligns their thoughts that pharmacology and synthetic compounds are the only way to improve.
I will never understand why we delay becoming a father until we are old af. Our culture should be designed around our biology not the other way around.
Dr. Huberman, first of all thank you for all of the useful information you provide! I have a question about AG1 that I hope you can answer- why are there such megadozes of some of the vitamins and minerals included in the blend? For example: 467% of the reference intake of an average adult of Vitamin C? 553% of the reference intake of an average adult of Vitamin E? 917% of the reference intake of an average adult of Vitamin B12? 1,100% of the reference intake of an average adult of Biotin? All of these found in 12g. of AG1 meaning in just 1 scoop... Why woud anyone need such high doses of these vitamins? Thanks in advance!
I was just wondering about the SAME. This are dosages very high even for people who consume 0 amounts vegetables and fruits and in my opinion these amounts can be toxic. Dr. Eric Berg multivitamine mix has much better proportions of micronutrients with dosages that allow you to still have a normal healthy diet without worrying to exceed the safe limits.
Question 1: Does viewing male fighting, powerful sports cars, competitive male sports, or a novel sexy woman (edit: wearing red) really increase testosterone in men? Question 2: Men's' testosterone drops when they have children. Does the same thing happen to new step-fathers? (If in a co-habitation situation.) Thank you!
Thank you both for discussing PFS. You describe it very well, although there is much more to it than sexual dysfunction as someone experiencing it. Acknowledgment and discussion is so important and highlights the need for further research in making a way towards treatment.

Hello Professor Huberman, I was wondering how come in both the latest episode of sexual health and specifically in this one, the issue of premature ejaculation has not been treated. ED has been discussed lastly lately, however PE was not, even though is very common across males and mainstream doctors usually do not threat this properly or simply suggest drug as a form of intervention instead of studying any underlying (anatomical and/or psychological) causes. Would you do an episode or a deep dive on this topic in the future? Thanks in advance.
Yeah, well, people aren't cavemen anymore, and most people find sexual intercourse beneficial in many ways. Spiritually, psychologically, and as a way to bond. 99.9% of the time people have sex it's not to procreate, so no, I don't think your reply helped the original poster at all.
@@dave9547that doesn’t take away from the fact that premature ejaculation is not a real medical issue. Thats like giving a pathological name for breathing normally to someone who loves swimming and wants to swim all the time but cant hold their breath forever like…just because you WANT to do something doesnt mean theres a real problem standing in your way. “We don’t have any data” always used conveniently for both sides of the coin. I think we can logically deduce that alcohol or cannabis is not positive for fertility, especially if someone is struggling. Why take the risk? The data is clear on sleep disruption and changes in sleep architecture. Even with a single drink and poor night of sleep. Respect to Huberman for calling it out for what it is.
This is a question for your memory episode (which was a long time back) In using memory from long term memory there are two components, memory encoding and memory retrieval. In most of your episodes there was (I believe and think) only focus on memory encoding but not enough on memory retrieval. The retrieval process is more important for memory because if you can't retrieve it or have access to it, you can't use your encoded memory. So please do an episode on memory retrieval and look at the works of Robert Bjork, his lab and others work on memory retrieval. According to Robert Bjork memory retrieval is a probabilistic phenomenon. Obviously you need to have the memory encoded in the first place to retrieve it, so efficient memory encoding is essential but later down the line, memory retrieval becomes more important

So it's well studied that heat will negatively impact sperm, but is this a concern if one isn't planning on having a kid in the foreseeable future? In this case, if it's just the current reservoir of sperm that's being damaged, I would assume it's okay to be in the hot tub / sauna without a cold pack around your scrotum? Or will chronic heat exposure stunt spermatogenesis in the long run?
I also had the same question. If I want kids eventually, but no time soon, is there any reason to bother with the cold pack when I'm in the sauna multiple times per week?
Andrew, do you know any way of emulating the cognition-enhancing effects of nicotine without using it? I'm at about 20ng/ml while taking daily Adderall (which I would believe would lower prolactin). From what I understand, tumors will put you in the 100+ ng/ml area. What effect does elevated (but still "normal") prolactin levels have on the body over time, that is distinct from the effects of low dopamine?

It's not a real condition. Let me get this straight, PFS ensures only your negative side effects remain after use, but the benefits stop somehow?

Not at all surprising, given the state of health care in this country

@Andrew Huberman please do a podcast about post finasteride syndrome, so many men are suffering in silence.
Discussed in this episode. See time stamps.
@hubermanlab we need a WAY deeper dive too many conflicting opinions and "data" on both sides.

917% of the reference intake of an average adult of Vitamin B12?

Respect to Huberman for calling it out for what it is.
if you're serious about improving sperm health I'd definitely quit all of that stuff haha like you said, why risk it?
This is a question for your memory episode (which was a long time back)
In using memory from long term memory there are two components, memory encoding and memory retrieval.
