He made drab beautiful , those dark Satanic Mills whose shadow I grew up in had people who worked long hours but still had time for others ,supported each other . Now live far away but still remember my youth .
I was 7 years old when this film was made, just nearby where I lived in Swinton, also where Lowry lived for a short while. Oddly enough, Lowry and his mum and dad moved from Victoria Park south Manchester to Victoria Park Swinton. The area known at the time as Swinton and Pendlebury. Painting is now one of my favourite hobbies and LS is my favourite artist.
Thank you for uploading this film I found it very interesting watching how Lowry painted I wonder what he would have said if he had been told that the paintings in his room would one day be worth millions ? To think he came very close to giving up painting altogether. A gallery owner went to his restorer and saw a Lowry and put on a show having purchased about eighteen of his works. Lowry said if it had not been for that he was on the point of giving up at that moment in time.

Lowry went to art schools for years. He didn’t just see scene and decide to become a painter. Romanticized nonsense.
