So her daughter is a bully AND she covered up her father's cheating. And she wasn't a baby when it was going on, she was 17-20. Yeah, im not that big on OP "reconnecting and remembering how short life is 🥺". All her daughter does is make a mess and then play victim when she is held accountable. And when she saw a way out, by supporting her sh1tty father who enabled her bullying, she took it. OP's son is right, she's toxic. Instead of understanding what led to her mom distancing herself and apologizing, she threw a tantrum and went crying to daddy.
I agree but as a mother I also understand her positioning. It takes a lot to wear away at a mother’s love for her children, for better or for worse, as it should be. We will tolerate a lot. And redditers and youtubers alike can hate us all they want for it. That’s not going to stop us from trying. We were responsible for creating these people. We’re going to try our damndest to make sure they’re okay and if they become toxic people we’re going to try our damndest to guide them away from those behaviours so when things finally fall apart and we can’t take it any longer we can say without a shadow of a doubt that we did everything in our powers as mothers to make it right so we have no regrets.
the description that the daughter was grounded because she pushed someone nearly to “do something irreversible” sounds like she may have bullied someone close to self harm or suicide. i have very little sympathy for people like that. and then when the daughter experiences consequences for her actions, she goes on to further bully her own mother through “getting back at her” with hiding the affair. i’m shocked the mom wants anything to do with her. regardless of how difficult it was for the daughter, she was 17 and old enough to know better. i know i would’ve at 17, and i was going through a lot of emotional turmoil myself at that age.
NTA I would abandon her to. Horrible daughter Edit:I finished and in my opinion I would of still left her. I know the dad has a play but she was also 17 WHEN she found out. So I don’t feel bad, personally as a woman I wouldn’t have forgiven her if she was like 7 or something then yes but she’s almost a adult when she found it so yea. And the daughter is a horrible person I’m assuming the daughter tried to make someone commit. The daughter is a actual pos 💀
Yup horrible daughter, I know that probably reddit gaslight her into forgiving the daughter, but the problem started for something that OP had no control over, the trip was for the daughter of OP's boyfriend, she could have simply said; "I didn't have any say in who comes to the trip" but the daughter goes full: YOU DIDNT INVITE?! YOU HATE ME!? WHY CAN'T YOU MOVE ON?! Even the final comment gives it away, all the daughter want is to swamp everything under the rug, and what does OP ends up doing? The son is correct that she is toxic, she almost made another girl commit suicide and hide up her dad affair because "I was still angry that you ground me for almost killing someone". Man fk Off.
If my math is right, the daughter is 22 now, so at the tone of the affair she would have been around 19/20 depending on her birthday. That's not a kid. And it wasn't a long time ago Edit: either my math is wrong or Op's timeline doesn't make sense.... she said her daughter was 22, the affair lasted for 2 years, and she's only known her boyfriend for 1.5 years... or did I misunderstand something??
Her daughter confessed to doing it out of malicious intent and OP just sweeps it under the rug??? Especially after her daughter was a bully and pushed another girl to presumably suicide? Ma'am, your daughter is just a bad person and only shows remorse now because you caught her.
Heard the story before, the daughter sided with the cheating husband and expects the mom to forgive her after everything while not showing remorse whatsoever. She's not a child. She did it out of Spite because she wanted to get back at her mother.
Her daughter did not learn anything, after she hurt someone so badly she got expelled she went and hurt her mom for trying to give her tough love, i feel bad for OP and the next time she breaks your heart.
If you put something out on the internet, you may not like what you get back. OP has shocked face! Other than that, it is a good story. By the way, ex-husband is a cartoon villain.
Both of them suck. The mother is super emotionally manipulative. Telling the daughter she had forgiven her but also shutting her out, etc. and the daughter is self centered and incapable of taking accountability for her own actions.

Literally
you're right
17 is old enough to not be like that. 17 is old enough to tell your mom.
Her daughter confessed to doing it out of malicious intent and OP just sweeps it under the rug??? Especially after her daughter was a bully and pushed another girl to presumably suicide? Ma'am, your daughter is just a bad person and only shows remorse now because you caught her.

Who needs enemies when you have a family like that. Both the daughter and the ex are terrible people omg 😭
Daughter is the worst of the worst
Sounds like the family was full of bad types.
Her daughter is a bad person she is just like her father.
Nope, case closed
11:08 Sorry your daughter caused a great deal of damage to someone else. If you want to be a loser about it. That's on you
