    As a college student, I am seriously considering moving to DMV simply because of the dedication to effective public transit. No one is doing it like DC!

    Any metro expansion to Georgetown? Odd having a students be around the area and a bit density with some transit corridors near to it am surprised. Though great to see recently the Metro extended to Dulles nice to have, since there were not much and just used the taxi instead to our area from the airport.

      the people of Georgetown do not want there to be a metro stop because it might bring “undesirable” groups of people into the neighborhood.

    The blue line loop would work but it would need to be augmented by a pink line service between Franconia and Rosslyn via National Harbor and Union Station.

    • @stephenshaw7593
      @stephenshaw7593 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chrispychip6569The Pink Line could then continue to Arlington Cemetery before branching off from the Blue Line prior to the Yellow Line junction, stopping at "Pentagon II Station", which would have an underground pedestrian walkway to the existing Pentagon I, and continue down Columbia Pike and all the way to Annandale. That way the Bloop gets full service without reducing service anywhere else on the system, the Pink Line actually gets to go somewhere rather than just supplementing existing lines, and Columbia Pike finally gets Metro after being planned to have Metro for decades. There's massive TOD potential on that corridor too, along with existing density in some parts

    Typical of American transit: under build, wait until the system is clogged, and then take 10 to 20 years to "fix" it...

      Exactly but I think transit agencies are realizing that they were complacent for way too long. So hopefully they keep making incremental improvements

    How about improving signaling and switches, hiring more train drivers, and running trains more frequently. 10-20 minute frequency for a metro is pretty low. I know that's somewhat due to a lot of interlining, so maybe they need to look at service patterns along with signaling, switches, and staff. If Toronto can run a train every 2 minutes on the Yonge Subway, I trust DC could do the same eventually.

    Future changes needed:
    Red Line: Frederick - Olney
    Orange Line: Gainesville/Amphitheatre - Annapolis
    Yellow Line: Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg - Columbia
    Green Line: Waldorf - BWI
    Blue Line: Manassas West - Upper Marlboro
    Silver Line: Leesburg - Edgewater
    Future Line - Beltway, except at the NW where future stations for West Langley, Cabin John, Bethesda, Medical Center, and North Chevy Chase join Forest Glen and McLean stations.

    Well the Red Line gets its entire right of way to itself, which is too much capacity for one line when other lines are clogged up. So why not build a brand new Rail Tunnel for the Blue line between Rosslyn & Dupont Circle via a new station at Georgetown. From Dupont Circle, the Red Line could share its tracks with the new Blue Line between Dupont Circle & Union, where the Blue Line can have its new D.C. Terminus & Passengers can transfer for Commuter Rail services as well as Local bus & streetcar services. To the North of Union Station, a new turnback track should also be built to easily turn around Blue line Trains without disturbing Red line services going beyond Union.

    • @acaciafruit347
      @acaciafruit347 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean 'too much capacity'? Interlining can be good but it's already complicated enough to run in DC and by adding the red line into it too, there'd be even more bottlenecks, which is the problem they're trying to solve.

    • @electro_sykes
      @electro_sykes ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@acaciafruit347 The Red gets its entire route to itself whilst the Blue, orange and silver share one corridor. Red & Blue on one corridor and Orange and Silver on the other sounds more evened out

    • @acaciafruit347
      @acaciafruit347 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think having routes all having their own routes as much as possible is best, as it allows for higher frequencies and better service, I don't really get your point. The Red Line should keep it's ROW to itself for better frequencies across the whole route, and the blue line should have its own ROW in the downtown to avoid interlining with the Orange and Silver. Interlining with the Red Line practically goes against the entire point of the new section.
