I'm pretty sure Doom was talking about force of will when he talked about "flesh". The examples he gave such as having one of his followers jump to her death because he willed it, and telling Conan that the strength in his heart and his will to seek revenge is far stronger than steel could ever be.

That’s because they enjoyed the “strength” of flesh (orgies, food, safety, etc.), rather than having a strong will. Also, what is flesh to the will that drives it?

Thulsa Doom TOLD him the answer to the riddle of steel when Conan was captured, he explained it and he used an example, how he willed one of his followers to kill herself without questioning it, then told him to "contemplate this on the Tree of Woe" and ordered Conan to be crucified.

2:45 begins the segment that is so haunting and dissonant. And how wonderfully positioned against the backdrop of The Final Duel between the Barbarian and the Sorcerer! Instead of really intense crescendo sounds for that scene, this back half of the song leads you to believe that Conan's Triumph is a foregone conclusion, making his revenge anti-climatic and empty. Which is ironically exactly what the sorcerer was preaching: receiving the emptiness. I know that's way too deep :) but I love this song. Ever since hearing it as a kid, I appreciated how surreal it is.
I remember writing a short story in high school that kinda pays homage to the punisher and when I wrote the final showdown between the protagonist and the antagonist, I kept hearing this in my head. Not sure why, but I kinda liked it. Probably because of the dark elements in the story and something to do with the quality of the music. Imagine if the story were to have a film version and this music being used at that exact moment.

It has been traditional for gladiators to bow to his owners and to to his opponent. Conan also bows to Valeria and her memory and the memory of his parents.
