I could see both tricks being extremely useful for 100%, sucks that they're both frame perfect, one frame apart and have completely different applications. TASes will be cool though
I'm curious to know if bombs will have any effect on canceling the warp, because this combined with infinite bomb jumps could crack this game wide open. Hell, at this rate we'll find a glitch that lets Samus do a drop dash lol.
Wow, I am 100% sure this happened to me on my first playthrough but I didn't think anything of it. All I remember is warping back a few steps from where I was. Didn't realize it was actually a thing that could be exploited.
While ledge warp is certainly an interesting trick, I'm struggling to see the practical application of it. Not only do you have to stay in ball until you want to TP, locking you out of most of your arsenal, but you also can only TP to a spot you've already been to. Space Ball looks like it would be considerably more useful as it could help gaining forward progress before you have access to things like bombs.
Definitely will be useful for any item or power up you'd want to get then have to back track for. You could also store shinespark, ledge cancel morph, and get to some serious places with that while being able to warp back
The modern day SM64 HOLP. Bravo Now my only wonder is if there'll be a way to frame buffer stuff better, because right now trying to do these moves f a s t hurts.
I wonder how many of these "bugs" the developers were already aware of, but because they really wanted to cater to the Metroid speed running community they decided to let them be
I do think they'll buff out one specific glitch. If you skip the first Emmi and return to its area before Artaria freezes you softlock. I know they'll leave the skip but the softlock will probably be patched
@@CassiusStelar oh yeah that makes sense. Anything that's game breaking, sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're glad so many fans have already broken their game, in a good way
How far can you store that stuff? I wonder if this could be used to escape in some occasions where the game prevents you from back tracking until you have advanced further...
Probably accidentally found either the "space ball" or a short teleportation after touching a ledge, then tried to replicate. Finding one of the two would always lead to finding the other while you practice.
Need to rename that morph ball launch, it's not a space ball. A space ball would be space jumping in the morph ball. Or covering the enemy radar with strawberry jam.
@@LuisD.Guitar the dev team was inspired by both Super and Fusion's approach to sequence breaking and glitches. Paraphrasing here, anything that's fun doesnt need fixing because if you fix it, it's no longer fun, and if it ain't fun, why bother
@@researchinbreeder well if thats the case and you can store it between maps then that really opens up routing possibilities. The only problem being you don't know if you stored it or not.
@@ArtelindSSB yea I wasn't really thinking about that when I said that. But with how much the map changes. And with all the back tracking, might be useful somewhere.
If they're smart they won't fix it. They built the whole game to be speedrun-ready, except for too many cutscenes that can't be skipped. It's not accident all the sequence breaks are there and the game keeps working if you do them, unlike most games.
They look for ways to break the game for speedrunning purposes and try whatever the character animation allows them to do, then combine stuff that's not necessarly designed to be done this way, and from time to time, magic comes out of nowhere and they analyze what they did, using input viewing, slow motion, etc.
I knew the game was gonna be savagely damaged before turning one single week old but I'm still amazed at how it's already done.
You love to see it :)
@@Linkenfant not really
At will teleportation in a speedrun will completely break the game and i'm here for it
it'll be limited in that you have to stay in morph ball mode until you're ready to teleport back
poor EMMIs

Maybe for quickly backtracking , i see more use in the space ball trick
combine it with infinite bomb jump
I imagine there'll be quite a few ledge warp opportunities in 100% tbh. *If* bombs don't mess it up.
poor EMMIs, that literally what I see it being used for, anoying EMMI dismissals

Not even a full week and already there's speedrun tricks. My hat off to you 🎩
Excellent work! Really nice find.
When I watched this for the first time and he finally un-morphed, I had to pause the video I was laughing out loud so hard....
Whew,
This is a Dreadfully smart glitch
I can't wait for the Tool Assisted Speedruns.
This huge but i wonder how this is gonna be used in runs
Probably only for TAS since frame perfect on a 60fps game for minimal time save seems not worth it
@@enderallygolem Aaaaannnd, now it's being used in a WR run for early Screw.
Speedruns of this game are gonna be wacky.
I wouldn't be surprised if that ledge warp one gets patched out. The Space Ball one is pretty cool.
Good lord. This is absolutely mental!
I saw Dragonfangs and I think it was Samura1man? discuss this on the Discord. Great to see some actual footage of this!
Damm speedruns are going to be crazy
Yooo Space Ball will surely break something.

Neither
Speedrunners be like: write that down! Write that down!
I wonder if this trick will be used in tas’s to save frames backtracking and maybe sequence break, seems pretty useful if it wasn’t for the difficulty
Now it's time to find a way to do this easier than tas

can this be done underwater?
This is pretty similar to buffer ledge grab of the GTA 5 lol, this is op
There's no way this doesn't get patched out. The other wacky tech sure, but this?

Is the teleport limited to the same room you stored the ledge mantle?
This is the important question.
No, they demonstrate that by going down the shaft. It's stored as long as you're morphed

If you unmorph in a different room, will you be warped back to the ledge location? If so this can be very useful
So they're not practical tricks to use?
Please don't patch this stuff Nintendo, Speed runs are already amazing
They'll probably only patch game-breaking glitches, like the one that crashes the game if you put a map marker on a destructible door
This is mayor

I really hope you actually bought the game instead of just emulating it
Holy shit, doing that on the ledge I grabbed here would make it possible to get gravity as early as Kraid th-cam.com/video/T0mFwJG4uzE/w-d-xo.html
