  • We travel to the famous Fern Glen Formation just south of St. Louis, Missouri. This fossil-rich series of layers of limestone and shale (Burlington Limestone/Fern Glen) is exposed in eastern and southeastern Missouri and contains an abundance of brachiopods, crinoids, rugose corals, and bryozoa (including the famous "star bryozoa" (radiata)).

Awesome finds, I have thousands of world class horn corals and crinoid fossils, and maybe the largest horn coral in the world, all of them ,I just surface pick them, it's untelling how much more,is under the dirt, when I start digging for them

Amazing the fossils you have found. I have a few large rocks I found in a creek. Just beautiful.

Creek hunting can be very rewarding. Sometimes crystals, sometimes fossils...we even have a creek nearby that has geodes.

Dang I waited 2 years to visit this place, finally stopped there after collecting druzy at haunted ridge. There's purple paint all along the treeline. Didn't see any no trespassing signs, only saw the paint, but we all know what that means.

When I was a kid, I used to collect random rocks that looked interesting. One day, I was walking by a lake (don’t remember where), and picked a grey rock. When I picked it up, I inspected it, not really expecting anything. To my surprise, there were a few shells. I was so happy to say the least. I ended up taking home the rock, but never did anything with the hunk of rock k found. However, after midway through middle school my fascination with the past almost entirely stopped. Recently, however, my fascination has come back 10 fold. This video reminded me of the rock I found.

Apparently some of this land has been privately purchased. You may want to contact the city of Imperial to determine what areas are still open for collecting.
