    I'm here for the content but the "enhance" Super Troopers intro has me rolling 😂. Great stuff!

    Very interesting David. Developing a roasting curve seems pretty easy. At least you make it look easy. I noticed you can watch the behavior of the ROR while making adjustments to your curve. Have you used this visual aid while creating roast profiles? It seems similar to Artisan designer in that sense except the LINK software looks much more approachable.
    Nice job on the video explanation. Thanks for sharing!

      Thanks very much, Mike! I do keep an eye on the RoR when editing curves, but I don't worry so much about it being as perfectly shaped as possible. Since RoR is just a derivative of bean curve, I largely view it as either a predictive element (in this sort of planning stage) or a diagnosing element (when viewed post roast). In this planning stage, I do find it helpful as a check against some of my crazier bean curve ideas 😂 though to be honest, I still have some boundaries I look forward to pushing if for no other reason than pure curiosity!

    Hi David, I recently got a Link roaster and am hoping to start learning how to roast my own coffee. I find the Link software a bit confusing and don't want to tweak too many settings in case I mess things up. For example, I liked one of the built-in profiles on the roaster but wanted to tweak some parts of it, such as increasing the temperature during the drying phase or aiming for a longer development time. For some reason, after I made the adjustments to the curve, the roast would end before reaching the target development time.
    Would you be up for creating a video explaining the basic functions of the software? Thank you!

      Hi Jane, nucleus has a bunch of videos on their channel that go into more specifics (search in youtube for "Nucleus Coffee Tools Training"). This video should help answer your specific question: th-cam.com/video/sI4aki2lv8o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=367cnxKhj3dnqwVw

    Great video Captain David. I’ve recently gotten a Kaffelogic nano 7e, (On route)I know they are the ‘same’ unit more less and minus of vs enhancements. But when it comes to the software, are they the same? I’ve downloaded the studio in advance but can’t do anything till the unit arrives. Ultimately, does what you showcased in this video when it comes apply to the KL7? Of course the import of profiles from NL to KL is locked behind code but your workaround seems simple enough. Thanks again for the video

      Howdy! As far as I can tell, both softwares are built on Kaffeelogic's architecture and are therefore largely the same. At least as of publishing this video, that may change in the future! The big differences are of course the Nucleus Profiles which won't be in the Kaffeelogic version. Also, I believe you need a code from purchasing the "Boost" in order to access the Kaffeelogic's 200g profiles

    I’ve modified a profile (opening a log, converting to a profile, renaming it) and I see it sitting in my User Profile area but I cannot get it to the roaster. The Send to Roaster button is greyed out and that little button on the toolbar does nothing. Not sure what happened there.

      Did you change the file name or the profile name? If you changed the profile name (one of the 4 tabs up top "About this file") that should be what appears on the front of your roaster. If not, you can use the settings menu on the roaster and go to "Profile Packs". User profiles should be one of the packs. Then load that up and click the profile button on the front of the roaster. As you cycle through, you should see the name you put under "About this file". If you don't see it, you didn't have the roaster synced when you saved the profile!

      @@TheCaptainsCoffee thank you. I eventually got it to work - in the Studio software I could see my file (renamed as you say) under User Profiles and I could open it in Studio but could not send it to the roaster. On the machine itself using the buttons to load it up there was nothing under User Profiles and it just defaulted to the Default profile. Where I realize I went wrong, and it was user error, there is an unlabeled button on the bottom right of the Studio beside the Send to Roaster button that I needed to click. All good now. I tried amending a couple profiles for more sweetness and will give them a taste today. Roasting seems simple in concept, but if it were easy everyone would be roasting delicious coffee.

      @@LivingTheLifeRetired yes! I must have forgot to mention that little button to the right of the "send to roaster" button on this video, glad you found it!! Also, my favorite profile pack for more sweetness accent is Filter B (and push development into the ~15% range if it's natural or ~18% if it's washed)

    Thank you for the video. Perhaps you could also show how you roast your own profile in another video. To see your result. At the moment I am trying to find out if it is possible to roast City/Full City Roast with the Nuclues. Unfortunately it doesn't work with the supporting profile packs. They only go up to about 20% DTR. Actually, this is clear, because the Nuclues is actually only built as a sample roaster. What do you think and have you ever roasted an espresso with well over 20% DTR?

      My other two videos in this playlist show roast demos for 100g and 200g roasts on the link: th-cam.com/play/PLN1WqO4DwZr9sgOWytezYbbUbKXkGRA7z.html&si=zFNDAbFPiOevKzGO. For darker roasts simply edit your profile in studio as shown in this video by dragging up and out on the final end point. You can also choose a hotter profile than the one suggested by the app (a higher number say 209 when it suggested 206) and ride that momentum further past medium. I know that's a bit of a work around but I haven't done much experimenting above 20% (which I consider a medium roast on most coffees). I'll do some soon and report back!

    Regarding your ‘shameless self promotion’, given your valuable contributions and generosity of your time putting these vids together, feel free to promote as much as you like! Regarding the profiles, if you mark first crack while following along with a roast, does that in any way alter the original profile or does that just show up in the log? I can see the value in comparing actual first crack to the expected first crack to perhaps zero in on a more appropriate profile to use if actual and expected FC don’t match. Also, is there a community tab somewhere similar to the Kaffelogic where users share profiles? Thanks a lot.

    • @TheCaptainsCoffee
      @TheCaptainsCoffee  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks a ton and great questions! Yes, each profile has an "assumed" 1C (based on your coffee's density) that will trigger automatically if you don't mark it yourself to allow for completely hands free operation if you want! Marking 1C turns that off and then finishes the roast based on your selected Dev %. If you'd like to see the "expected" 1C, it's marked with that red line on the original profile in Studio! At this time we don't have a "community" tab on our site, I keep hoping Nucleus will launch an official one. If they don't in the future, I'll see about setting something up :)

    • @LivingTheLifeRetired
      @LivingTheLifeRetired 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheCaptainsCoffee thank you. Does marking 1C change the actual profile file for next time or does it only mark it on the log?

    • @TheCaptainsCoffee
      @TheCaptainsCoffee  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@LivingTheLifeRetired that option can be changed in the settings! You can have it set to remember where you marked FC or to reset every roast
