- Made by an artisan who also makes spinning tops for us, this 'drunken ball' is both elegantly made, and a lot of fun.
It appears to be a solid wooden ball, 48mm in diameter. However if you look closely, you can see that there are two halves joined together. When you place the drunken ball on a table and roll it, it shows some very strange behaviour. This is caused by the fact that there is a metal weight inside the ball, which has been positioned some distance from the centre of the ball. It is this off-centre weight that makes the ball behave so strangely, almost as if it is drunk! - บันเทิง

MinecraftFAN2001 it's actually super common for advanced bowling balls to be unevenly weighted. they respond quicker to lane conditions.

When I played, I used an eccentric ball. It helps to do impossible paths like "S" paths.
You can also precisely chose how to hit a peg.
Also, the holes were adjusted to my finger and one of them was only to rest on top.
Still amusing when people want to try it, realize that the holes are way off then when the launch it, see the ball go straight on the edge :-D (even skilled players)

I noticed that too, I hope he is ok. I'm scared of cutting things incase I slip the knife and slice my finger deeply! That's why I hate cooking... so when I see plasters on people's fingers I shiver...

If you were to spin that ball on a surface with a thin layer of clean, fine sand I am sure you would see some incredible patterns!
Fun fact: The physics of this ball, when spun as demonstrated, creates polygonal shapes from decagon (or higher depending on the spin intensity) to triangle to just a straight line.

I used to have a chunk of wood what did something like this. We had taken a branch of wood, and smoothed it out on the lathe. I believe it was cedar or some such dense wood, that way. Since it started out as a crooked branch, though, when you rolled it on the table it'd wiggle around every way. Rather fun. My mother had originally made it to be a rolling pin, but we ended up having more fun with it rolling around the table, spinning it this way and that.

amazing yet very simple it would be very nice if one could observe these motions if the ball could trace it's path, we could see some interesting symmetries, fascinating.
The different mass on each layer made the ball wobbling. If you look at tree that has been cut down, you will see each layer on it surface has different concentration of mass depending on the past yearly weather.

I swear a few years ago this guy was at Lincoln Christmas market, he had a Nokia 3310 and asked if he could use my phone due to poor reception, he didn't know how to use my Samsung galaxy s6 edge, so I helped him call his wife and he gave me a pound, it looks exactly like him, and I will never forget his accent. I loved it.
If it is the same guy, I still tell my friends how awesome his accent was to this day, I think a year to 2 years later.

what i noticed is that kind of draws polygons as it spins and as it slows down it makes a polygon of lesser sides, as in pentagon, to square , to triangle, to line

Is it that the ball is hollow, with a very viscous liquid inside such as honey or vaseline with another smaller but heavy ball-bearing inside of the larger ball surrounded by the liquid?
It seems to be a hollowed out ball that has a smaller, denser ball inside of it.
I'm curious as to how this would perform on a more frictionless surface.
