    Hi Amy! Thank you so much for these videos! I'm a beginner, never played a percussion instrument before and this is super helpful! I will admit, I'm having a hard time working notes into the grooves..I'm not quite used to timing i guess? But I will keep practicing with you as I'm having such a good time!!

    I only just recently got a Rav Vast G Pygmy. This series is the first like this that I have seen. I was mystified by the patterns I would see people play and not really completely be able to make sense of it. This is super helpful. I don't have a history in percussion other than my enjoyment in music. Thank you so much!

      Thanks so much, I'm glad you're enjoying your new handpan. Take care of your back though! Make sure you're playing in a comfortable position, whether with the instrument on your lap or on a stand, and try not to lean over it too much.
      I struggled with my shoulders in the early days because of bad posture. It's good to fix it early!

    I love music that is "dance alongy to". 😏
    Your teaching style is very engaging. For that reason, it makes so much sense that I found you through Omri. We don't have a handpan so I've glued some used yogurt and fruit cup containers to a cardboard box for my kids to practice with. ☺️

    This is amazing and your style of explanation is so understandable! Just got mine and was wondering how long until to get to a full song and how many hours a day should I get to practice! How long took you to learn handpandrum?

    • @AmyNaylorMusic
      @AmyNaylorMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! I'm glad it's helpful for you.
      Everyone learns at different paces and I would so to practice as often and for as long as you can without it ever feeling like a burden. If it ever stops being fun, take a break, play, explore, be curious, and then dive back in again. Take your time, enjoy where you're at now. You've got so much fun ahead of you!! 😁😁

  • @atze9Be

    I do not really understand how you create that slap sound. When I try to do it on my Handpan (beginner, have only had it 4 days) all the tones that are nearby also sound all around, but I can't get that dry sound effect you do so beautifully.
    Would appreciate good advice!

    • @AmyNaylorMusic
      @AmyNaylorMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your handpan is made with stainless steel, it is almost inevitable that other notes will ring when you slap. You can try knocking with your knuckle to a different more gentle effect, and slapping with two fingers, keeping your fingers down on the steel as close to the edge as you can

      This is a D Kurd from Ariel Handpan. But they do look similar

  • @brayanangulo8730
    @brayanangulo8730 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can I hold the hand pand differently? Or do the bigger circles always have to face me ??

    • @AmyNaylorMusic
      @AmyNaylorMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can hold it in whichever direction you wish!! This is the "first position" and my personal favourite. Many people play with the first and second note in front of them equally, and some folks for certain songs will move the pan around completely - but its most common to stick with lower notes in front

  • @geira6940
    @geira6940 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    As you would hit on top in the middle of an apex ding. Would it be harming the handpan to hit inside the dimple in the inpex ding?

    • @AmyNaylorMusic
      @AmyNaylorMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at all, though the sound will likely be different... I've actually never played one!! As long as you aren't hitting hard, you can play however/wherever you like ☺️
