I don’t know why but I always keep my passport on me. I’ll wear something with a zipper pocket on it & keep it on me at all times. I feel like it’s safer on me than in my room.
I'll be going on a cruise and people told me when you got out on excursions or just out for the day to keep your passport on you always just in case for whatever reason you miss your ship then you'll be in a world of trouble.
I always keep my passport and my credit card on me in separate pockets in my pants. Even though the odds in many places are low in the event there is a natural disaster like earthquake, tsunami, fire, or civil unrest I don’t want to be worried about getting back to my hotel, then my room possibly multiple floor up, then back out before I can catch a bus or flight the hell out. At any moment I can decide to leave an area permanently

Excellent video...I also have my passport book, but carry a printed copy, and copy in my i-phone.. Many times while doing transactions like currency exchange inside banks and exchange booths, they want the passport book.. NOTE: THAILAND currency exchange @ the Airport and some banks will only except "NEW" or near new American dollars..No old, No faded, No damaged bills..
that was a brilliant video ... im am going abroad soon and i just emailed a photo of my passport to myself whatsapped a copy to my son and my boss and keeping a photocopy to take with me .... belt belt belt and braces haha!! thank you! xxx
In most cases I have only been asked for my passport when checking into a hotel. On cruise ships they will take your passport for the duration of the cruise. I was once asked for my passport in Monaco at the Royal Casino. Couldn’t get in without it. Fortunately I was carrying it with me.
Should you get the passport card to carry with you while you travel so that you don’t need the copy? I know that the copy is so much cheaper but if you’re in a situation where your passport is absolutely required and you don’t have happen to have it on you (not a situation where it’s lost or stolen), would this be a good option? In your video you mentioned the second hotel room in a different city in the same country, if they wouldn’t accept your copy, would you have HAD to go back for your passport? Or would other documentation suffice?
I think the copy is more valuable. The passport card has a different ID number, so it does not work the same as the actual passport book. However, the passport card is a second government issued ID, so the passport card does have some value. however if you are looking for a second government issued ID, you should look at the global entry card which also comes with a government issued ID. I have never had a problem using a copy of my passport when I travel.

I carry the government issued passport card with me in addition to the passport book. If you somehow lose one, you still have the other.
Thst's what I do along with the photo of the passport book in the cloud.
