- Go_A's Eurovision 2021 entry SHUM is inspired by a folk song from the same region where Chornobyl nuclear station is situated.
Today marks 35 years since the Chornobyl disaster, and ahead of this, Go_A went to visit the area.
In addition to witnessing what the disaster has done to the surrounding towns and environment, they took the opportunity to experience the local musical tradition on which SHUM has been inspired by.

What a wonderful thing to see on this day, the 35th anniversary of that fateful night in Ukraine.
Having been there and stood in that once prosperous place and even driven a Ukrainian-built bus through the heart of Pripyat, I can't tell you how remarkable this place is. Not just Chernobyl, but the great country beyond.
To be flooded with Ukrainian culture in this video and realising how this song represents the recovery of humankind as well as the recovery of nature in Chernobyl is a convergence of emotions for me.
Ukraine is a beautiful country with strong, welcoming people proud of their culture, and I can't wait to be back there as soon as I can.

I love SHUM and I love that they visited Chernobyl. I've been so into Ukrainian culture for multiple years now, and I don't know why, but it makes me so happy to see them make the effort to be there.

My dear father was one of liquidators in Chornobyl, he died of cancer caused by radiation and all of his teammates died

Since this accident, some countries that thinks the world belongs to them... are still stockpiling nuclear waste, and building more nuclear power stations around the world, what happened in Chernobyl will probably happen again, it is only inevitable, some humans are so greedy for power. Again, I have so much respect towards you, your family, and all that people in Chernobyl that has been affected by the decisions of some greedy evil men, I wish u all the best in your future.

When you hope "everything recovers there", I think you have no idea how many centuries it will last until people can live in all these abandoned cities and villages because earth, trees, plants, water are poisoned by radioactivity. If you have time, there is an excellent mini-series on Netflix about the Chernobyl catastrophe.

Non sò in altre nazioni, ma bisogna ricorrere all'energia solare, all'eolico ed all'idrogeno ed abbandonare il nucleare per sempre.

Thanks for posting this video! It is very important to remember the tragedy in Chornobyl, especially today. This pain is shared by all post-soviet countries, and we still recall the names of fire fighters and liquidators, heroes, who prevented a true catastrophe.
And thank you for showing us local music culture! My heart goes out to people who left their home, who will never sing again their spectacular songs in the place where they used to sing for ages. Please, keep your beautiful Ukrainian culture for future generations and spread it around the world!

Сейчас Чернобыль место паломничества эко-туристов ... А 35 лет назад, это было место битвы за сохранение жизни на Земле ... Мой брат Алексей был одним из 3660 "биороботов" - офицеров которые очищали крышу реактора от радиоактивных обломков вручную, причем без надлежащей защиты ... Они имели только противогазы и освинцованные фартуки ... Слава Героям, спасшим Мир от гибели!

I was there around a couple of weeks before the tragedy happenned... (in a village nearby, our relatives lived there so we visited them). I was 3 years old and remember that visit...
I'm in love with Go_A more and more after every single video
In 2019 God saved us of MARUV shame. 2020 Go-a prepared great song Solovey. And finally 2021 Shum is the best song ever.

A very interesting video, I couldn't appreciate more the folk singing and the amazing elder Ukranians with their beautiful costumes. Or the fact that Ukraine sends this amazing song inspired by this fascinating tradition - I hope it will win the ESC, not only because of the great music but also the symbolic message it bears (and that was addressed in the video) - we should think about what we have done to Earth and Nature. And maybe could cultivate a dawning feeling of hope that Nature can one day win back again, if we change our way of life and thinking about what we are allowed to do to Nature, thus reduce our impact on it and allow it again take its place. - Though, I think Nature will rise anyway and either show us our place or erase us if won't realise that soon enough, and that won't necessarily be going to feel so nice for us.
My greatest regret in 2017, was that I didn't have time to discover Чорнобиль
One day, I'd love to come back to Ukraine
