My first experience with a cow that wanted her calf back occurred when I was about 10 years old. My Uncle George had put a sick calf in the back of his pickup truck. My cousin and I were in the back of the pickup with the calf. Well, the cow meant business and she put her head down and she rammed the rear passenger fender of the old red Ford. It pushed the truck over about one foot. My Uncle George got a kick out of it and he broke up laughing. He said that our eyes were as big as saucers. He thought it was funny. However, we likely had streaks you know where from that experience. . . . and we did not have to go to Mexico. . . . Your channel causes me to recall memories almost 70 years ago. Thank you for your channel. 😊 It is good to see farmers inventing useful equipment. By the way, another uncle saw his son playing with an old car spring in the sand. He saw the distinctive marks and the thought was the beginning of Flexi-Coil Land Packers back in the late 1940's. . . . Enough stories for now.
Was just sitting here thinking about 1958 when my grandparents spent the winter in California and we stayed at their place to watch the stock herd of black angus cattle. West central Iowa. Cold. Snow. And all my toy tractors were at home three miles away.
Boy, I wish I had a cage for some of the calves I tagged. I remember number 74 was a cantankerous cow when she calved, but grew beautiful calves. That’s why we kept her around! 🐂 😅😊

The cage you use to control the calf is a really good invention. That farmer did good by designing that device. The demo you showed us really has me interested. Well Brian it does my heart good to hear you talk about old guys still breeding calves. I’m an old gal still breeding show kittens. And I know people just look at me and say she’s too old. But if I feel good so why not. And they may not knock me down but they could bite snd cause me a severe infection but I’m careful. I don’t know about the rest of the old people,but I get up,every morning and thank God I’m still alive and feel good. I’m 80. I think it’s my passion that keeps me alive and you still have a passion for farming.
Calf cages like that usually on the side of an ATV are getting more common in NW Saskatchewan. Most of the ranchers that own them also have a truck with one or more box panels caved in on the side from a mother cow that said “ Oh no you don’t ”. Stay safe.

The BEST wreck I have ever seen was during the use/demonstration of a calf catcher similar to that attached to the side of a side by side. Granted it was some waspy Braford heifers. But I never knew a side by side to could flip so easily by one pissed off momma cow. Needless to say we didn’t purchase the mangled remains of the calf catcher 😂

My Alexa is in the kitchen. The kitchen island is tablet using spot while sipping coffee than breakfast and more coffee. My wife will be on Pinterest or Facebook while I am on TH-cam repairing something and farming. We are ease dropping on each other,my wife tries to be 1st to know Brian’s song of the day. We have 9yrs on Brian and both grew up and still listen to country music we thought but Alexa has proven to us that we listen to a lot of music in 69yrs. I was feeding my poultry this morning and the Cockerel ran up behind me a pecked my leg. You never can be too careful with livestock, STAY SAFE. I think it was the anticipation of being fed that made him do it.

Need to be really careful with those trigger sprayers on the eyes. A bit too much pressure will injure the eye and can be very painful. A baby bottle and a nipple might serve you better but even then, squeeze very gently.

I know you didn't ask, but I am compelled to offer you what I know. I bought my Takeuchi TL230 CTL in 2020 and it was a 2010 with 3600 hrs. on it. I had to replace the entire undercarriage hardware. If the bogey wheels have grooves cut in them, they will allow the tracks to run out of alignment and they will be noisier. The tracks on it were in rough shape on it when I bought it, down to the wear bars. I replaced the tracks first, then the bogeys and idlers. The only thing I didn't replace was the sprockets, they were in good shape. I would check the outer planetary section of each drive motor. I have one that leaks at the face seal, and was lucky enough to get one from Takeuchi for $5300. Tracks were $3000 in 2020, and the bogey and Idlers were another $3000. Bobcat to Takeuchi might be apples and oranges, but they are built similar, and my experience might give you some insight. Cheers Cole, Cheers Brian.

I saw on 10th generation dairyman they used their manure hauler to chop up some bales for bedding and it seemed to work very well for them.

You need a snow blower on the front of your feed mixer blowing snow out of the feed bunk before you feed.
I really like the gate set up. Makes things so much easier.
