Here my two words on gypsy jazz picking and picks (my opinion):
    1. Wegen Big City 1.8 & 2.2. I find them to have that thinner and bright sound. Leads you to Joscho Stephan kind of sound. Very light, has a good grip, cuts the string like a hot knife through the butter. In my opinion, too bright on the first string and too thin for a powerful rhythm work (I like "fat" sound). Matter of taste, plus you can find different thickness of these. Amazing pick, I like how it's easy to play with this pick. Also, has very low percussive sound when resting on the string below. All Wegen picks are made of very hard long-lasting material.
    2. Wegen GJ 3.5 - amazing. Thick enough to produce fatter sound on the thinner strings and rhythm. At the same time, has very good bevel that allows to "cut" the string easily. Also has a good grip. Has some percussive sound while resting on the string below. Because of the material and the bevel, produces bright and clear sound, despite its thickness. I like this very much.
    3. Wegen Fatone 5.0 - similar to 3.5 pick, but thicker and feels stubbier in your hands. Something you have to get use to. Produces very fat amazing tone, specially for rhythm. Rest strokes have never been so powerful!
    4. Dunlop Grip 1.5 & 2.0 - very good picks. Cheap, easy to find. A lot of players love them and use them. The material is not so strong as Wegen picks have, so the sound may be a bit muddier, but the difference is small. Personally I find that using the tip of this pick gives you bright sound. A bit too much.. So I (and some other guys on TH-cam) prefer to play with the side of the pick.
    5. I also love Dunlop Prime Tone picks. They have different thickness. My favorite is 3.0. Amazing material, gives very clear, limpid and strong sound. Rhythm sounds fascinating with these ones. But, as for Dunlop Grip - the tip of the pick is too sharp, so you may prefer to use the side of the pick.
I also played with a pick made of bone. Didn't really like it, because it's noisy (maybe you will like it). I've heard the same about stone picks. But the sound is kinda great.
Conclusion: develop your technique! And go with a single favorite pick. Switching between different picks wastes your time, since you need to get use to them.

Interesting what you say about pick noise. I continue to search for a gypsy pick that doesn't produce a nasty 'tack' when it touches the string. Any thoughts? The sound I mean is best illustrated by the plastic button@7.24
