Only vagrants can have heavy ballista crafting. Vagrants don't have bosses. For everything except heavy ballista you want only boss NPCs because they have a buff on all stats. You can see it when you hover over their proficiency stats. It's a % number. There's a yellow turban that can have all other siege crafting skills and he can have forge master and extraordinary wisdom too
Bodyguard doesn't work so don't bother with it. Look for the robber with lone rider, mower, one man army and the healing buff. That's the best fighter. The most versatile one is the pirate with resilience, one man army and conquerors will.
Best provocation skill for siege NPCs is hot headed because they don't have to get hit to trigger it.
Arrogance doesn't increase over 900. It's capped. Tested on classic era.
The torture rack from dlc seems to recruit faster than the normal one.
