Abbadon - Say what you will about the warmaster, he will never bend the knee to the gods of Chaos, no matter how many gifts they throw at him.
Exactly. He may not have won his Black Crusades, but he always got something of value from each one, from Drach'nyen to Cadia getting wrecked.
What would constitute winning?
Total destruction of the imperium?
The goal is too big to be accomplished all at once.
Their best shot at that died along with Horus.
But if they destroy it piece by piece they have a far better chance of achieving that.

Fun Fact - that woman is Moriana. One of the very first Inquisitors for the Imperium after the Horus Heresy. She tried to resurrect the Emperor using the Forces of Chaos (yeah, she wasn't particularly sane), and (to the surprise of no one but her) got branded as *Hereticus Diabolus Extremis*. She fled and became a favored servant of the Chaos Gods. In some ways, she's even more powerful than Abaddon despite the fact that she has no power armour.
She isn't kidding when she mocks Abaddon for his threats to her - she legitimately can fuck his shit up if she wanted.
Her faction within the Inquisition was - and is - known as the Horusians, a bunch of Radical Inquisitors who are trying to do what she tried and failed to do. As they say, the Imperium's worst enemy is - more often than not - *itself*.

Absolutely adore the style of WH40K when it comes to this type of stuff; it's like Halloween and space Sci-Fi merged seamlessly.
Abaddon is about the only chaos marine with some complexity. Iron willed, and defiant of even the chaos powers. I remember one passage in some book when Horus was still kickin around but had started to take on demons on their ships and how Abaddon hated dealing with them, one of them tried to compel Abaddon to kneel but he fought against it and never did. I thought it was a nice lil tid bit on him.

A lot of people say that abaddon isn’t as powerful or as terrifying as Horus, Horus was warmaster of chaos for 7 years...abaddon has been the warmaster of chaos for over 12,000...
But Horus did more in those 7 than Abby in his countless centuries

Abaddon is only truly leading the Black Legion because the other traitor legion can't follow a plan (berserker, Slaaneshi warriors...) and he managed to cut the Imperium in two and destroying the second strongest planet of Mankind (Cadia) without being a Primarch !
@@JoeSmith-sl9bq Remember also that Horus cut half of Imperium to his side, meaning the loss was doubled - he got the forces and they lost them. While Abaddon has to "gather his rivals" and fight with what he got against fortified Imperium, against Necrons, against Eldar...and almost certainly against Tyranids.
@@peterh2828 Horus had to fight a peak imperium, with all of loyalist primarchs and the Emperor himself. Abaddon has been fighting a rotting imperium with no primarchs and after nearly 10,000 years he finally spilt the imperium in half. Which Gulliman had basically undone a good amount of the damage. (saving the light side and ensuring Dante and his angels would protect the other half). Abaddon is like a B-tier character who got his ass kicked by a crystaling wizard in melee combat, had a hard fight with Calgar. if Guilliman and Abaddon fought Abaddon would be low diffed.

Considering that the "crone" is non other then the Deceiver, a god in its own right. It had to deal dialy with creatures such as Magladroth the Void Dragon. So yes Abaddon is insignificant compare to his old aquitances

Abaddon's Fluff is so atrociously handled it completely destroys the character, kinda sad really seeing as in the hands of a competent author like Aaron Dembski-Bowden he is actually quite interesting, I did love his portrayal in this game though, especially the voice.
It really fits here and Gothic armada 2.
I wish he was presented as maybe winning some things rather than lose on purpose

I get that he looses some crusades. But maybe some of the crusades shouldn’t be named that? Like the one in the first battlefleet game. It wasn’t really a crusade and it was more a large campaign. Close to a crusade but it lacked the necessary depth of one

I have read some 40K lore and I am confused. Why do so many people say that Abaddon is weak and a failure?
Every time he turns up and starts a Black Crusade, it's a hard blow for the Empire - the 13th Black Crusade broke the Galaxy literlly in two.
Sure he's not on the Combat level of a Demon Primarch, or tactical gifted as Guilliman, but he's still a incredible threat.

It is jokes from board game when his arms fall do to there weight and hi pretty bad on tabel. Thet it why hi cold armles and failure.
He had really long time to damage the Imperium and most of Chaos forces at the command + powers of chaos gods and although Black crusades were hard hits for the Imperium, Abaddon could probably do much more with so many forces and much faster, yet he wasn´t able to do it.
Because the Imperium of Man has the worst fanboys out of any scifi faction.
