    After 40 yrs of mining, crushing, and screening I have found that the cheapest way to move material is on belts. It saves on fuel and wear and tear on expensive machines. A couple hundred feet of flat belts would be much cheaper than a big dozer and you could use 80-100 foot sections in other parts of your operation as the situation changed. Great videos. Also where's all the Atonic Sand hats and tees?

      As a millright, I agree. Electric driven belts have next to nothing to go wrong compared to dozers & scrapers/haul trucks & loaders. A mid sized electric motor, frequency drive, belts and rollers. Just make sure it's being greased and wiped down to the MFG schedule religiously, or you'll always be chasing bearings and belt tracking problems

    Mr. dig why don't set up a conveyor belt to pull down the sand you need??
    You could then push the sand into a hopper then the conveyor would carry the sand down to water edge or into the water to fill up the pond.
    You could several belts on a staggered levels to.

    You should look into draglines and/ or sauerman set up skyline dredge i know a place in Ohio that does sand and gravel mining that uses both and then loaders charge the conveyor hopper to run to the plant. Also have seen draglines dig the sand pile it and excavator or loader to fill haul trucks there's a show of antique heavy equipment in early spring that also has a tour of their sand mining operation

    Big crawlers cost a lot to move for only a short time of use. Maybe try running what you have side by side to carry more material. A couple of push-pull scrapers make sense, and they would have uses in other parts of the operation. Belts still require equipment at each end. Possibly the tool that could handle a bunch of evils would be a big old walking dragline.

    If you're buying equipment to do the job, my mind says go with something you can pivot into another operation after the mine site is spent. The other side of my mind is saying use the KISS method. Find a simple solution with minimal moving parts, less money on break downs and such.

    Interesting. When in high school I spent some time dredging sand out of the Missouri river in Montana. Electric motor pumped the slurry to a tower on shore. Screened out the trash and silt, allowing the sand to pile up below the tower. Swung arcs on the river as the barge was hard-lined to a pivot on the bank.

    Morning Ryan from All my past experiences in moving large quantities of Sand and Hard pan for the distances you are and beyond we either used tractors with moldboards with a hard face weld on the points to loosen the soil or chisel plows both are cost effective chisel plows wear More and takes more HP but with moldboard plowing you can cover a ton of ground in a day don't have all the wear and tare on undercarriage can move about the site quickly and you can also get one of the 8 wheel big tractors with dual pull behind pans to follow the plow in order to load up they can then in turn spread across closer to the dredge at which point a dozer can feed it to dredge at a shorter distance, when the hit the seam of red you don't like b they can simply change dump site for a more efficient moving of material

  • @paulreimer372
    @paulreimer372 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I like the conveyor idea, another possibility is two land scrapers, it looks like you have enough slope that loading wouldn’t be too much of a problem. Then when you hit the unfavourable soil, it’s easier to dump elsewhere.

To remove the trees to solid ground ... some type of flat bottom skidder pan, old steel landing craft boat you can drag on the sand to solid ground with a dozer on solid ground.? Old floating barge for tree removal and maybe be able to re-purpose afterwards?

      The distance is not far enough for scrapers. Plus since its in sand once they are empty they have to fight to get back up hill trying not to get stuck. The tires are designed for hard pack dirt not loose sand and to replace them it can cost over $20,000 a tire. A bigger dozer is better.

    You have 2 dozers running at the moment > That’s 2 lots of fuel, wear and tear and operators. Have you calculated the hourly cost to run those per amount of dirt they move? You can then compare that against the D10/D11 hourly cost per dirt moved. That should let you know if that would be cost effective. I would guess the a D11 with material blade would move enough sand to make it a viable option. You could look at hiring a barge to get an excavator onto your island to remove the trees and stumps.

  • @jonniessink1
    @jonniessink1 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    As everyone is suggesting to use scrapers and conveyor belts to move the sand closer to the dredge are good ideas if the lenght of haul was a lot longer and or going to replace the drege completely. But since you said there is about 10ish year left in that part of the pit. A D10, 11 and a booster pump is a way better. With the booster pump it should technically make the drege pump more efficient since it doesn't have to push the sand the entire lenght of the hose, just to the booster. Then the booster can take care of the rest. With bringing sand to the drege the A to B distance to me is not long enough for scrapers or conveyors. You just have to make each pass more effective in that hour of operating. I believe if you had 1 D10 dozer it can move more sand in 1 hour then 2 D6's. You might be able to move enough sand in one shift to where the D10, 11 only needs to operate every other day or so. Then that operator can open ground on the next section or something like that. The 2 biggest problems with buying a big dozer like that is the cost of the dozer and transportation of the dozer. You might be able to get an older model fairly cheap. Its just the cost of transportation to the site where it throws off many people. But if it's goig to live the rest of its life there it might be worth it.

    Ryan, are you (and Dad and everyone concerned) aware of the different uses for different types of sand? See Wikipedia. - That fine white sand may be worth a lot more for sandblasting or as brake sand for railroads (also used when accelerating heavy trains) than as a building material. Maybe even worth bulk-shipping it to Europe (where I live). - I don't know about the purple stuff, but there's bound to be a marker for that, too! (Even if it were to create room for a landfill at that location. Meaning: if {getting rid of that sand} would cost you less than {what you charge for accepting waste}, it would contribute to your profit.)
    Slopes: if slopes should (temporarily or continually) prove too steep for negotiating straight up or straight down, do remember the invention of the hairpin curves in a mountain road, and handle the slopes at angles.

      This is a great comment. I’ve been looking into specialty sand uses for years now. Problem is I need more equipment to produce it. Hopefully soon I can find time to research more. We’re exhausting the mine for a low value material right now and that bugs me. Unfortunately we have to sell concrete sand right now to stay alive. Appreciate you taking the time to comment, have a great day!

      @@TheRealMrDiGGYou're welcome! - You may want to do some brainstorming with "everyone involved" (Dad, your great employees, potential customers) about turning /every/ type of waste (and whatever you have, like the sand) into something useful (preferably worth paying a price for) to others. Your thoughts definitely are on the right track!
      As you may have learned from Wikipedia, sand has a use in filtering water. (Here in the Netherlands, the tap water of Amsterdam has spent some time in the coastal dunes, as part of its preparation for entering the water lines.) - You have the sand, you have the water, you're considering to lower the water level. Don't merely pump the water away, it may make you money. The water currently present, but you might be in a good position to accept waste water (industrial waste water, but who knows) and upgrade it to levels of cleanness that to something of commercial value. - Again, you have bright people around you (at both locations), so encourage them (on Friday afternoons!) to think along with you. :-)

    Also if you look around there is places to lease the equipment i spoke of pull type scrapers behind tractor can still be loaded with excavator they have change out cutting edges etc and can be pushed with dozer as Needed can move massive amounts of materials and reason i said moldboard plowing verses ripping you can cover more distances at a wider stance and with scrapers your not going to pick up More than a few inches at a time for the distance your hauling anyways and will move roughly 38 yards of materials and place it where you need it with less compaction fuel and maintenance costs Will be cheaper they have the ability for good turn around speeds and can be equipped with GPS so not only a monkey can operate it but can be monitored from your office so you can see the production curves of your daily operation 1 tractor plowing and 2 tractors with 2 pull pans will move more material and place the material than what it will take 6 dozers several excavator and several dump trucks which is why you see these things on massive road jobs don't get the regular scrapers like Cat or Deere to expensive and you will want a more versatile setup you was talking about the island this is the way to move large quantities of materials to different locations and still keep your sand dredge working sure wish I lived closer to be able to show you exactly what im talking about but do research on this Ryan don't make a mistake and spend a ton of money on large dozer you won't get back your money for what your trying to accomplish

    I know you talked about meeting your mining reclamation's requirements of having the finished slope at 3h:1v.....
    When 'dumped free fall dirt' is pushed over the 'high wall' it'll be at a natural angle of approximate repose of 1.4h--1.6h:1v. A simple way to check the slopes without high tech survey equipment is to use a clinometer (maybe you already have one?.....Forestry Suppliers item #43830, @$195.00, the one I used everyday I worked dirt slopes on my construction jobs, sometimes didn't even have to get off the equipment.....please read the reviews for a very knowledgeable tip).
    Once you learn how to use this simple tool (it's easy to learn) you'll be able to build your 3h:1v slope very accurately and quickly as well as planing future construction. Hang it around your neck every morning when you get on the job, carrying it in a shirt pocket.

    Instead of a huge dozer for a month, why not just pick up a slightly bigger one and keep it?
    Something that can push 2-3 times as much sand as your smaller ones, and free an employee up from shoving sand to do something else, like shoving the landfill around. Economies of scale, and it saves throwing money away on a rental machine.
    It's definitely a shame about the plastic from the slip and slide not being reusable, though.
