  • Not from Chicago, but of interest for one big blooper in particular - from an edition of Eyewitness 12 on WKRC Channel 12 in Cincinnati, OH, a live (Edge Livewitness report) remote on the naming of Henchman Bear (a.k.a. Jack Schmidt) as new leader of the Kentucky chapter of the Iron Horsemen motorcycle club, and their plans to attend a funeral for their prior president, Robert (Moose) Holston, who was murdered on October 8th by a Seventh Sons gang member, Joseph Snow.
The anchor is Nick Clooney (father of actor George Clooney, and also the brother of the late songbird Rosemary Clooney who appeared in a few mail order record offer ads in the early 1970's, as seen on • WFLD Channel 32 - Cand... ), and reporting is Fred Wymore from outside the Radel Funeral Home in Newport, KY.
We catch Nick (and his earpiece falling off) near the tail end of his introduction, and the live remote from Fred and his interview with Henchman Bear, who expects about 200-300 motorcycle gang members to attend but no problems with the rival Seventh Sons gang (which he says no longer exists), goes on about his plans for the gang, and their plans for the funeral, before lacing into a *massive profanity* in eulogizing their dead leader. In the end, Nick has to apologize for the salty language, especially from a live feed and even more so from company that couldn't care less how they conduct themselves before others. (meanwhile the audience at home is in shock and has something to tell the folks around the watercooler tomorrow)
(TECHNICAL NOTE: Vidifont's 28 and 18 line height CBS News 36 character generator fonts are in evidence for the lower-thirds.)
"Our brother died for us, so you're asking about retaliation..."
This aired on local Cincinnati TV on Monday, October 10th 1977.

Wow. This really brings back memories. Those motorcycle gangs made the news a lot in the ‘70s.

It's so cool to see old footage of the Iron Horsemen. They all have a lot to be proud of. I'm looking forward to sharing this video to my local Iron Horsemen.

Cleves Ohio chapter are buddies of my uncle. My dad was part of Henchmen MC Cincinnati/Camp Washington Chapter until Horsemen and Angels absorbed them. They wanted my dad to stay on but dad wanted out, 1%ing back in the 70s was not a good thing for a family man with a good job. But they stayed his buddies no matter what. A lot of those old timers died off due to drugs, poor health, motorcycle accidents or other reasons.

He was also, for a time in the early 1980's, an anchor at KNBC Channel 4 in Los Angeles. But he was generally synonymous with WKRC (wonder if that station's calls were partly after which the fictional radio station of the TV series "WKRP In Cincinnati" was named?).

One of the all-time classics! I love the look on the reporter's face at the end.
One blooper that I witnessed live many years ago was when Orlando's Channel 6 (don't know what calls they were using then - they've had 3 or 4 different calls) was about to inaugurate their brand-new studio facilities (about 1/2 mile from where I currently live) for the 6 p.m. newscast. During a commercial break, they were doing a live update from a reporter on the grounds, but when they cut to him, it was obvious he had not heard the cue. Neither, apparently, did the crew as you then hear one of their voices, clear as a bell, exclaim "Oh my God - we're f------ing live!!!"

At the end of an Eyewitness News edition on WABC Channel 7 in New York when weatherman Tex Antoine was celebrating his 25th anniversary on the air in 1974, he uttered a profanity to one of the reporters (most likely Doug Johnson) while imploring him to get out of the way of his anniversary cake, that was heard for all to hear. This was some two years before his ill-chosen "rape" remarks that ended his on-air career there.
