    • @ljones121
      @ljones121 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually less derailments than you think, just the internet catches them more often, emergency stops yes half due to the sizes of the trains and the knuckles can't take the strain and break the other half because of ptc malfunctioning

      @@ljones121 I realize that what is caught on camera is going to somewhat give the impression of more frequency, but its something I never really thought about happening until watching it on YT.
      So it was a bit surprising to see. I'm also amazed at how quickly they can stop some of the behemoth trains!! I enjoy the action but always hope everyone is safe, too.

      Or just run normal sized trains and stop combining intermodal with time freight and coal and grain and rail and circus trains and every other kind of train you can possibly think of lol. In my area of the US, NS has being doing the DP thing for awhile and it's not working out too well. I bet only half of the trains make it from origin to destination on a daily basis out of a very busy terminal. Sometimes it takes 5 hrs to put together and they have to call relief crews because it stalls out, breaks down etc.

    • @cdavid8139
      @cdavid8139 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@huntersquires7107 So what is a 'normal size train' Mike. 30 car 2000 ton consists with a five man crew? And train length/tonnage/blocking may be one thing for one part of the country and another with different routing constraints. Your bet that NS trains are not making it to destination for over 50% of their trains is a losing bet. And yeah, there are times it very well take a yard job several hours to assemble these larger trains. In particular in situations where the classification or bowl tracks can't hold a full block. But all of that is being taken into consideration when determining what type of train to run. If if it takes a yard job an extra hour or two to assemble a train that may require far less labor overall.....it's a win

    • @huntersquires7107
      @huntersquires7107 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol!! Every train should have 1 box car, 1 engine, and a caboose. That should also require not a five, but a 10 man crew...hell let's go 15. Take away radios and EOT'S and everything and let's go back to steam. I wanna go back to 1890. I'm sorry I'm not a fan of PSR like you are. Railroads were just fine pre-PSR and making billions. My area of the country it ain't workin' out too well...except for Wall Street.

      It's this area of town where the trains have to go slower and it's a winding back and forth on the tracks. Once the head end of a 2 mile long train is out of town it is going up a slight grade and that is putting more pressure on the knuckles. NS used to use DPUs in this area but stopped several months to a year ago. They need to start using DPUs again
