- Citrus experiment in Ireland - 4 years later after planting outside
Japanese seedless Satsuma (Citrus unshiu)
Outback Queensland Desert Lime (Eremocitrus Glauca)
The trees have survived prolonged subzero temperatures and frost in winter. The minimum temperature was 5.4 degrees Celsius and there was a period of approximately two weeks where the temperature remained below zero.
Date of recording: 31 August 2023
You are giving me inspiration! Well done!
Looking good. It’d be great to see it fruit in the future hopefully
It's always a nice surprise to return to my garden and see the citrus have survived :D Thanks for your interest. It's a pity there weren't any fruit for me to review; hopefully there will be next time.
Its grown well. Strangely my satsuma that fruited well last year, didn't produce a single flower this year either. ( Grown in a container, not in ground )
I wonder what it was. Too much cold in winter or the dreary summer we've had in Ireland?
They have done very well to survive in the ground for so long. The satsuma has grown really well too, shame it's not flowered this year, hopefully, you get more flowers next year 🤞
I've started experimenting with planting citrus in the ground here in the UK. Do you ever cover these citrus trees during cold spells?
Thanks, yes I'm surprised how well the satsuma is doing outside without any care whatsoever. It gets morning sun in that position and benefits from the south facing wall. Good luck growing yours in the UK 👍
@@Julian-Eire yeah, I just checked your older citrus videos, wow that’s incredible that it’s survived with basically no input at all. Looks like it’s in the perfect microclimate!
