This was my first pack I still have it. The only thing I don't like about it now is that there's no side water bottle pouches already on it. It is comfortable to me. I have packs like women have purses.

I've been looking at this and the lack of bottle pouch is also an issue. However, it strikes me that I could add a molle pouch to the outside

I got a second hand Rush 12 over 2 years ago, for like 30 USD.
    BEST DEAL EVER.
Not only because a new Rush 12 costs 120~150 USD here in Taiwan, but for two years it has been my EDC pack and it works great.
I really like the anterior compartment where I can keep my EDC tools.
I have tried several packs to replace this old thing but each time I went back to it within a week.

I've had the rush 72 for 6 months and love it. Yesterday I was on 5.11s website and they had a blowout sale. I got the rush 12 for only $40, also got a rush 24 for $50!! Talk about a steal! Great review man. Keep it up!

I love the RUSH line of packs, especially the 24. The 12 has been my EDC pack for years now, can't see replacing it any time soon. The 72 is a beast but doesn't get as much use as my 12 and 24, still won't let it go.

Same! I have the 12, 24, and 72. I bought the 24 about 7 years ago when I started my career as an archaeologist and it has held up to absolute hell and barely has a frayed thread.
The 12 I bought recently as my EDC because I have a wasp and Hornet allergy and always need to carry epipens (starting venom therapy soon though so yaaaay!). I also load it out with water and a first-aid kit along with some standard get-home gear.
The 72 I find to be a bit too big for regular use. I've taken it a bunch of backcountry trips as a camp bag. I've been reserving it to convert to a BOB to keep in the house. Something I can easily throw in the truck if my wife and I need to leave our home.

I have had the Rush 12 for years and it still looks new. It has been heavily used including by my son for a school backpack for his fourth and fifth grade years. It serves as my current EDC. I do agree about the water bottle pockets. I added an external one to mine.

  • @Farang_Lifestyles

Awesome review ,,, bought all 72/24/12 Rush products and the one thing that I really appreciate that is not mentioned in any reviews is the fact of connecting multiple Rush series packs together with the Tier-3 system design...example: go on a week long backpack trip with the 72 and have the 12 attached with only admin and bladder. then at base camp can detach and only use the Rush12 for day hikes. But you definitely need to have rain protection for each bag. Although I could have gone with much lighter Arcteryx packs,,, having these Rush series packs already active is dual purpose planning in my humble opinion. Whatever is best,,, most important is being prepared and ready to remain calm in any situation.

Had this bag for last 2 years, does get a bit sweaty on your back during the hottest days, but overall it’s a great buy, extremely tough and looks almost brand new despite being thrown around every day. Use a Camelbak bladder on the inside and haven’t had an issue.

Thanks again, for the useful information.
I happen to live in a tsunami zone just off the Cascadia fault line. That means a tsunami (of imminent doom) would be preceded by a potentially devastating earthquake.
I've been shopping around for a smaller OSB (oh s**t bag) for a while. This video helps.
I like your thinking about the balance effect of having pouches for the bottles on the side walls, but I think I might prefer a pair (or 3) of adjustable retention straps on each side.
Those would still secure the bottles, and also be somewhat more flexible for securing other types of gear.
    Keep up the good work.

I’ve owned two of these bags for about 5 years now. I have a black one for work and a sand one for every day use when not at work. I love them. They’ve travelled all over the world with me. Just the addition of somewhen for a water bottle on the outside would make this bag perfect. I’ve added a Grimloc carabiner to the left side shoulder strap to hang by GPS on while walking.

Ok. So I’ve had my Rush 12 for over 9 years. It’s been used for the following: School, hiking, cycling/running, shooting, video gaming etc. I must point out something very important though. I highly recommend getting the extra buckles/strap kit that 5.11 sells as well as getting a simple strap to go around your mid-section. I noticed that when I would run across the street with my heavy school books, the weight jostles around making running with it uncomfortable. If you’re going to be really active with it, get the 5.11 strap kit. It really does help and you won’t regret it. The amount of mileage and different conditions that I’ve put on it is absolutely amazing and still going strong.

I cannot believe that you said exactly what I feel. It would be the perfect bag if it has a place for the water bottle. Everybody said to me oh that's ridiculous and unnecessary. I think itit would be perfect and also I actually like a little zip compartment in the bottom for a rain cover for the pack. Then that would be my ultimate little get home bag. Great vid and yes great ideas as usual. Be Blessed

I also have the 72 for my job in the military which is very useful when we go training for several days. • @ShonryuB

Thanks for the video. I've been looking around for an EDC bag that was around the 20 to 21 liter mark and this seems like it might fit the bill especially for the price. As for a BOB I'm not quite sure if I would personally consider it. I do a lot of long distance backpacking and some things I see that would make it a hard sell is the lack of load lifters, hipbelt, and adequate compression straps. Depending on your loadout especially for a BOB if it's 25+ pounds this pack looks like it would shred your shoulders on long hauls. Granted my idea of long hauls could differ from others.
I would also highly recommend against putting a bed roll lashed on the bottom of a pack. Best place is always in the interior and at a minimum in a compactor bag. Your sleeping bag/ bedroll is always your last line of defense against hyperthermia so it should always be shielded against the elements. Also in a high stress situation if your moving quickly there is always the risk of it snagging onto something and losing it making it even worse. On my AT thru hike I hiked through a period where there were 2 weeks of non stop freezing rain and snow. Trying to keep things dry after that long was next to impossible. I learned quick that there are very few things that are truly waterproof even rain jackets. They will all eventually fail. I ended up getting hyperthermia and massaging grace was that my sleeping bag was one of the only things I had left that was dry. If it wasn't for that I dont think I would be here. I kept it in a cuban fiber dry bag and made sure that no matter what it always stayed dry.

Been using this bag for about 4-5 years. Love it. This replaced my 5.11 Triad 18 which is also an awesome bag.
Was getting the itch to get something new but I honestly can't find anything that's as versatile short of possibly upgrading to the Rush 24.
I was leaning toward a less tactical bag, but then I thought "what do I care if it looks military-ish?". I've never been singled out in public because of it.
I use the Maxpedition Rolypoly attached to the molle on the side to free up space in the main compartment. Need to pick up a first-aid pouch though.
    Great video. Thanks!!

I just got the first version Rush 12 and it's a really great pack. I got it in black which seems to me but - exactly like you've said - I got it to blend in the big city.
I usually go with OD green but I wasn't sure about the 5.11 Tac OD color. Plus I had trouble getting the first version - I'm afraid the 2.0 CCW compartment would hold water in rain.
    Great review, great pack!

have you noticed you have molle all around your bag? so attach a water bottle holder 1 on each side if needed. the rush series has the rush 72 which has those bottle holders you want. also the rush 72 has 55litres of storage in it if you get what you need in that bag you dont need it. yes fully loaded its heavy but who said you have to fill it? If its a true bug out scenario you will have room to pickup gear you forgot or didnt realize you needed along the way.

I like my Rush 12 also. It is a very practical, well laid out bag. However as touched on this video 5.11 needs to come out with a 3.0 version with strong mesh back panels and mesh straps. It makes a great little adventure bag/Get Home Bag but man it needs better ventilation. It's just runs too hot for me to use as an EDC bag. The new Rush !00 has mesh straps and back paneling so. Would love to see the the older RUSH packs get that treatment also.

It will last me the rest of my life.
I'm on the prowl for a small EDC, because this pack is heavy, but I'm having trouble because I want something they will last this long and still feel this new and amazing.
Sadly I just don't like slings. I want this bag, but just small .. haha.

I too wish 5.11 would put pockets in the main compartment for nalgene bottle/s. I wished for this some time ago. So I made my own. I bought a maxpedition mini rollypolly and sewed it I to the inside (if worn on back would be on the right side). Problem solved.
I have 2 of the Rush 24 packs. 1 is black for my get home bag, 1 is Tan for a day pack/hiking/scout pack.
My get home pack has one of AR500 light weight level III+ plates in the "outer water bladder compartment" if I need to, I can just swing the pack to the front and wear it kinda like a vest. It will protect my front or if on my back it will protect my back.
I keep the 5 C's in the bag (Cover, cordage, combustion, container, and a cutting tool)
Along with a Sawyer mini water filter, maps of my area, a compass, and 3 spare magazines for my Glock19 EDC.
The whole pack weighs in at just shy of 20 lbs.
    Love it.

Why is there SO MUCH MOLLE?
This bag checks all the boxes, but the MOLLE is everywhere. I'm not a policeman or a veteran. I'm just a guy that wants an indestructible pack. I'd buy a black Rush 12 just to minimize the visibility of all the excess MOLLE.

I was in the market for a really good go bag slash multi-day pack and took a long look at the 5.11 stuff and nearly bought one. I needed something in between the day pack and the 50 plus liter pack I have for longer term hiking trips. The second I saw the Vanquest Trident though, I was hooked. I make excuses to go on hiking trips just so I can use it... You're probably going to have to try harder to get me to move away from my Vanquest fanboyism at this point... but 5.11 is great quality for cost ratio, so it's definitely a contender for people. Not everyone is going to like the layouts of the Vanquest packs. I know it took me a minute to come around to them, especially the way the Trident is laid out.

Unless they are USA made or have a lot more feature $150 is a good price for 20l packs

Great bag but it has one major failure. It may be bomb proof but it doesn’t have lockable zippers how can a tactical bag not be lockable? For that I can’t buy this. Very few manufacturers have the foresight to include lockable compartments ( all compartments ).

    • @chasedutson2452
      @chasedutson2452 4 ปีที่แล้ว

There is no such thing as a lockable zipper. You can bypass a "locked" zipper with a 10 cent ballpoint pen.

I think the pegasus pack from warrior assault systems is a great option to, its very simular then the rush, even a little bit better in my opinion. Look at that pack.

I had the RUSH 24 for a good few years (working in IT, used to it haul my site gear from job to job, sometimes with a good few miles of walking between), but ultimately sold it because of the exact same single gripe you have with the 12, nowhere decent for water bottles. Tried it with a bladder but just got annoyed with the thing. Brought two external rocket pouches but found that they made the bag just too goddam wide so I went back to my Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon II until just a couple months ago.
Then...I picked up the RUSH 72. This thing is absolutely perfect! Okay, so it's a big bag, there's no getting away from that. But the side pockets easily swallow a 1l widemouth Nalgine and has enough space (top or bottom depending on your desired loading) for other bits & pieces too. If I had one gripe it would be because of it being so cavernous it's sometimes easy to pack more than you need.

I have the rush 24 for my college backpack (in double tap). Doubles as my “get home bag” and first responder kit (I’m an emt at our local ambulance service). Since its primary purpose is to bring my school things, it’s helped me keep the extra gear to a minimum and minimize clutter of gadgets. Even though it stands out a bit since it’s tactical style, there are many people on campus with more flashy tactical bags or unique outfits so I don’t really feel like stick out. I like the molle, I added a basic trauma kit on the side after the most recent shooting to respond to any episode that could happen at school without hindering my ability to hold school supplies. Comfy, adaptable, and durable - don’t have anything bad to say except no external water pouch.

How well does this backpack fit under an airplane seat? Does the 24 fit under the seat well too? I'm searching for a high-quality durable backpack to travel internationally for work (on a regular basis). I travel to help train pastors around the world. I will need to put my iPad, Bible, snacks, book, meds, charging cords, etc inside the backpack.

I have the rush 72 it’s a little heavy but well built with tons of Molle and other packing options great for a bugout bag and half the price of most bags with the same quality if u want something smaller I luv the Duluth packs there pricey but there great bags only downside at least with mine was no Molle that’s why I got the 511 and couldn’t be happier with it and I believe I paid like $125 for the bigger version price varied at the time I got the same color in this video but grey was like $200 which was fine with me I like the brown/OD green better anyway very cool that they make armor plating for this pack hopefully they do them for the rush 72 gotta look into that I’d be worried about weight though.

I think the better question is, why buy this bag in the first place? While it will make a great get home bag, it doesn't fit into my overall prep agenda [ too small ]. I have a number of 5.11 items [ clothing and belts ], but have been using an Eagle Industries patrol pack for day or two excursions and a Kelty Zephyr bag for virtually everything else [ vacations, BOB, etc. ]. Both of them are over a decade old, still in great shape, and while I'm looking to replace the Kelty, I have complete faith in both items.
Let's face it, none of us are going to be able to utilize more than one or two such items, spending money on multiple packs is illogical.
