great video so thanks for sharing. i am interested in the 423. have you used a finishing mower with it or does the flail mower give a good finish for lawns. do you know of a place where you can get good used Avants in the UK
Dealers sometimes have ex demo units. The flail won’t give as good a cut as the finish mower would. The flail is a lot courser finish. The flail also struggles with really long grass with the 423 as it really needs more oil flow. But for what I use it for I’m happy.
Good morning John. The Avant itself has been running beautifully for the last 4 1/2 years and I haven’t done any repairs to it, but I do service it regularly myself. All the parts are very easy to get from either Kabota directly as it’s cheaper or from Avant themselves. As for the flail, it works very well on dryer grass on the 423 but It’s a little bit underpowered on the long grass but it does make it through it. I generally use it for bramble clearing and woodland clearance like a mulcher.
As with everything in life it is a compromise, I love my 423 as I needed a light machine so I didn’t dig into the ground but if I was going to buy again I would go for the 523. The 423 will happily lift a 10 foot length of sycamore and if you’re only moving at ground level and not wanting to lift it up you can actually move 800 kg with the 423. The 423 has enough power with the flail for the bits I show in my videos but it doesn’t have enough power to do four foot grass (it just bogs the engine down)

Do you find the 423 has enough power. I'm looking at getting one this year mainly for tree work and flail
